This woman said I did not call her yesterday to say when to come. So, she called me today to tell me my phone went to voicemail like she had an emergency. I explained I did not keep my phone on while I slept. She was not happy.
I told her to come at 4 today, so we got home about 3 or so. She called at 4:05 and said she would be here in 5 minutes. She showed up at almost 4:30.
The stick vacuum came apart. We spent the next hour, the three of us trying to put it together. Tommy was the the last to use it. She talked continuously! Finally, Tommy went to the kitchen to do something I asked. I had her go get the large vac. She came back lecturing me about how he was afraid of me, that he said to just get this done like I wanted, that I should talk nicer to him. Tommy said he was trying to get her to get out and shut up.
Well, I told her not to lecture me on how to talk. She said I would never get away with talking to her like that. Well, she blew up, cursing, F you, my friends and I will F you over. You will be sorry. No one in this town will ever work for you. I have my own business. I don't need your piddling $30. (for 1.5 hours, sitting and putting deer together and 1.5 hours late.) No cleaning got done!
Police said she had done nothing wrong. So, I could not file a report because someone would laugh at them. I told them about her taking gun in, breaking into house to kidnap her daughter.
Sooo, great way to start Christmas. What would you do?
i would say the two of you have conflicting personalities and should never be in the same place together.

DeleteShe is the violent one. She told Tommy she did what she wanted to do and when she wanted to do it. He was just trying to get her to go back with big vacuum instead of talking to him and taking it apart. But, I did tell her to leave and never come back. So, you think I had a part in this?
Back away entirely from the situation. Block her number, do not call her for any more work. She seems to have anger issues and nothing good will come of this.
ReplyDeleteAnd keep your doors locked, even when you're home. For at least a few weeks, until she aquires a few new "foster" dogs and gets sufficiently distracted and forgets about you. And don't hire any more cleaners without 3 references and proof of bonding/insurance.

This will be more for Tommy that we need to keep the doors locked. Tommy does not think it is necessary unless we are gone. Those kinds of credentials would make expensive cleaners. None of the others were so fractious. Two I did not want here again but had no problem. No problem with one who just quit answering calls. The other moved. So, this is only problem cleaner.
Many cleaners bring their own equipment. I suppose because they know theirs is in good shape and they know how to use it. The one you had sounds like she is borderline "crazy" as we used to say before it became politically incorrect.

DeleteWe have two good vacuum cleaners. However, Tommy took it apart where it is not supposed to be take apart, well the stick vac. Mine is full-sized and barely used. She did not want to bring her vac when we talked. I never want them to bring their own supplies, because I am allergic to things. One wanted to bring ammonia by another name. NO! I will suffocate. When all I want her to do is vacuum, why would she take off all the attachments? She got mad at Tommy for telling her they needed to come back to living room.
Politically correct or not, she is borderline crazy. Both twin daughters are schizophrenic bipolar. I think the apples did not fall far from the tree.
If she was referred to you by friends or neighbors I would make sure they knew it was not a good fit. You might want to call local elderly center to see if they have someone they could refer to you for cleaning.

DeleteOh, I did call the woman who gave me her name and number. She said she had never had her act that way but did believe me because of other things cleaner said. The cleaner lied to me about the reason the woman was selling her house. The woman had already told me. But, cleaner said that was not the reason. She was annoyed and baffled as to why cleaner lied.
I really don't expect a senior citizen to come clean. Nothing happens at the senior center which we can see from the front door.
I think Chef meant that the local senior center might be able to REFER you to a good cleaner, because lots of eldery like/need cleaning help. Not that the center could send you a senior to your house to clean. LOL!

I would have paid her for her time and told her to leave and then never ever have anything to do with her again. We had something similar happen when building our house with a stone mason. He was obviously a drug user and one day threw a fit at our painter because she moved his stuff over a few feet. Then he blew up at dh and dh told him to get his stuff and leave. He also did the "I'm so important, no other mason will work for you after I put the word around, etc". We ended up getting a wonderful mason, who is still our friend and texts with dh to this day.

DeleteI did exactly that. I told Tommy to give her $10 and she had been here 30 minutes.
Did you know about her past exploits? If so, I am not sure why you had her in to begin with? I am sure there must be a senior center, or elder services near you. If there are, you can call those for referrals for licensed, bonded help. Check the phone book for those elder resources.
