Smoky Day

 Mar 10

steps 12,000

On Sunday, we went to Walgreen's to get a prescription for each of us. His was not ready and mine was $175. Not paying that.

When I went with Tommy to Walgreen's, I just wore my jacket and my nightgown, short but to my knees. I wrapped my throw around my waist and went to the car. When we came home, I got out of the car, clutching my blanket and went up the ramp, as I turned to go toward the house, I felt a breeze behind me and clutched my behind since the gown was almost to my waist! I was so embarrassed! I got inside as quickly as I could. Next time, I will pull on a skirt.

Sunday night, I wanted scrambled eggs for dinner. I scrambled 8 eggs, ate 1/3 of the eggs, and put two-thirds into a bowl for Monday and Tuesday lunch.

During the freeze a couple of weeks ago with the terrific winds, damage occurred to our bags of Black Kow. It had been stacked on the edge of the porch behind huge flowerpots. I think half the fertilizer uncovered by the wind blew away. When it gets warmer, Tommy will dip it all into a five-gallon bucket. I told him to put some in tulips and other flowers.

I bought the bags of fertilizer and some potting soil about four years ago in anticipation of planting again in my raised gardens. Of course, I was unable to work that. We have dipping the bags of fertilizer to look forward to doing. I hate to sell my raised gardens because I hold out hope I can plant tomatoes again.

Today, I felt awful, so went for a nap. At 2pm with no nap and little rest, we went to Cullman to get my mail. I did go into Publix and bought one thing, not one I went in to get. I did snatch a 12-inch skillet, something I have said I was going to buy five years ago. The skillet will replace the 10-inch skillet that has started to peel. Really, I did not slow down the cart! Eggs at this Publix were over $7/doz. That price worries me.

Just now, Tommy told me that is not a place peeling. It is where the spatula is stuck to the surface from my melting it and ruining the spatula, melting it all over. It has two scratches elsewhere, so it goes in the trash anyway. I used cast iron to cook until my wrist cannot hold cast iron anymore. Pots and pans are stainless steel. This one skillet will be my only non-stick cookware.

As Birmingham came into view, It looked like there had been an awful fire. The city was covered in a haze. There was a controlled burn in Bankhead Forest. Tomorrow, it will be gone.

I cannot wait to eat my last third of my scrambled eggs tomorrow. They are so scrumptious.

Tomorrow and Wednesday I have doctor appointments. Fun!

Friday will be at least 80F! That makes me happy.

How much are eggs where you live?

Do you ever go out with your skirt up?

A Small Success

Today J helped me for a while. After she worked inside we went to the car wash to vacuum my car and put in generic floor mats. I found them on sale at WM last winter and am just now getting them installed. As she got out of the car at the carwash, she asked if I minded if she smoked half a cigarette. Of course, it was okay. We had the small $1 milkshakes that is a special at Arby's between 3pm and 5 pm, so I had that to finish.

She turned and said, "Oh, I cut down on cigarettes like you said. I used to smoke a cigarette every hour and now I am smoking a half cigarette ever hour. So, I cut down half." Of course, I was pleased for her.

There is a car vac in the trunk that plugs into the cigarette lighter, so she will use that to clean the console and cup holder. It's a disgrace! I got a free set of car detailing brushes from Harbor Freight.

Her bf won't eat beans of any sort, even as a side dish. He must have meat twice, maybe three times, each day. So, we have planned a session of making bean burgers. I told her to make them spicy like he prefers and call them "Cowboy Burgers." He won't even eat baked beans!  I think he thinks eating beans is a sign of deprivation. He would probably eat meat loaf from beans, with maybe a burger sized bit of ground beef. I love beans in the winter, especially. My kitchen is hot enough in the summer without cooking beans for hours!

We got a chair uncovered today, and sorting accomplished. By uncovered, I mean I can see the chair! She threw out a 30 gallon trash bag of old paper, mail, and coupon inserts. When she went home for lunch and to apply for a job, she left a box of papers up high so I did not have to bend to get them or lift. I sorted those while she was gone!

My yard needs mowing, so I hope the rain stops for a few days. She will do that, too. It must have rained every day for two weeks, so far. And, I get very little compared to the places in Birmingham and out in the counties that are flooding.

For her dinner, I gave her a large can of chicken (what she wanted when I asked her what she could use for dinner). She will figure out something to do with it to make a tasty meal. She gave me three car cigarette lighter usb ports. So, I will have one and exbf will have one. I cannot find mine. He has none. Now, he does! I think mine is in the plastic box we will empty tomorrow and put the contents where they should be.

If you smoke and quit, how did you quit? What did you accomplish today or lately, great or small?

This and That and Sales

*Dominique won't eat oats. Consequently, she looks like she is shrinking. She is not ill looking or acting, just not eating her oats but everything else. Maybe a drink made of honey, acv, and garlic in water will wake up her appetite. I can hope.

*My last eye exam and measuring for glasses was yesterday. My right eye has almost perfect vision, just astigmatism. The left eye needs more correction for close vision. Far vision is perfect in both eyes. I could read the smallest line!

*Apples--$0.69/lb., price-matched from Sprouts. I have 10 lbs.

*The high will be 80 degrees today. Whaaaat? I cannot get my clothes right for the day or evening. Even taking a sweater on and off is not working to keep me from smothering. Doctor's offices are stifling.

*The car ac quit again. I am still using ac as the car gets hot just sitting in the yard. Plus, it is warm enough to use it! Saturday, I will need the heater.

*Have not used dryer in three months! The wash not hung outdoors is hung inside.

*Another free lunch or three is coming up this next week. I know I will go to one, but the other two are iffy as to my attendance.

*I picked up 20 Christmas Child boxes to fill by next Friday.

*Bought exbf a Batman t-shirt with cape attached by Velcro. It cost $1.08.

*The smoky haze from the Appalachian forest fires has drifted to the east of me. That was weird to go out and see so much haze.

*Since I finally feel well enough to use the curling iron, my self-haircut is receiving rave reviews.

*A hen will go into the crockpot tonight. In the morning, I will add four red potatoes, onion, and celery. Exbf will get all but the breast.
