No heat Tuesday

Today was the free lunch. They served Shepherd's Pie with pickles and onions on the side. However, the stew had biscuits on the top and mashed potatoes on the side. I just had a biscuit and mashed potatoes and a piece of cake. Can you say carbs? I did not want to eat peas or beef, so that was it for me. What I had for dinner was not their fault!

We went to Publix and got four half-gallons of e2milk because they were on special. One gallon cost $7 instead of $9/gal.

I went around town cutting from public property pieces of foliage with glossy leaves, red berries, and huge thorns. It is for a table centerpiece for lunch next week.

My universal remote quit again, so I had to take it back to WM so the guy could make it work again. Last night, I could only turn the volume up or down and mute the sound. I am getting so tired of this. Thankfully, it was on a channel I like. Plus, this TLC TV is failing again.

Tonight, it felt like someone punched me in the side of my throat as I immediately became ill. By morning, I will be ready for something to stop all this. Now, I know why I have felt so tired all day.

Monday night, I roasted three turkey breasts in one oven bag and transferred each to a gallon bag. Today, I was going to put Tommy's into quart freezer bags. I felt so tired that I gave him the quart bags and told him to tear off chunks and divide his 7+ lbs. turkey breast into the gallon and four quart bags. I made the green bean casserole and sent the whole thing home in the aluminum pan it was cooked in. I promised him dressing and gravy and sweet potatoes next week. Ha! We had dinner at the church on thanksgiving, so this is a little extra.

He took home milk, bread, and raisins.

I have not had heat since Thursday! I do not have $140 to spend on a  service call from an electrician. I may freeze to death tonight,,,,brrr, Now, I have to get my hands under the covers.

So, there was nothing exciting or important today.

Groceries July 22--28, 2018

eggs $1.28/doz.
3 bananas
mushrooms 2@$0.99
2 half-gallons a2milk, 2/$7
sour cream
cherries $1.49/lb
grapes $1.79/lb.
strawberries $0.99
blueberries 2@$0.99/lb.
jar of artichoke hearts
1 lb. butter $2.99
4 bananas
onion
bell pepper
Miracle Whip $2.99

My total this week was about $30. Butter was $2.99 at Sav A Lot. It's a brand I have never heard of, but it is mine now. I will check other stores to see if it is carried anywhere else and what is the price. Okay, I checked and the butter is Coburn Farms, a Sav A Lot brand. And, there is a coupon that will make it $1.99!!!

Tuesday was the last day of the a2milk at $7 for two half-gallons. I bought two last week. Even though I have two unopened cartons from last week, these last two have a date of August 23, 2018. As I was trying to juggle things in the refrigerator to fit two more cartons in, I made a happy discovery. There were two milk cartons that each were about 1/3 full. When I combined those, both the same date, things were much less crowded! I don't think I have EVER before had two cartons of milk open and in use at the same time.

Immediately, I opened the jar of artichoke hearts at home. I ate two, gagging and spitting out the corn husk like portion. I will be taking these back. They were nasty.

The blueberries went straight into the freezer. I had just scraped the last of my last jar of Miracle Whip from the jar.

There is dehydrated bell pepper in a pint jar, but I bought a fresh one. The last time I put dehydrated bp in meatloaf, I remarked to exbf that the bell pepper had been dehydrated last year. He said and made sure I understand that he was not complaining, that the bell pepper was hard as a rock. He kept saying it was okay because he could taste it in the meatloaf.  So, I have fresh bp for the meatloaf this time.

Two stores had great sales this week, Aldi and Save A Lot. Otherwise, I would not have bought so much fruit and mushrooms.

Do you have a Sav A Lot where you live? Have you ever used Coburn Farms Butter or any of their products?

$20 sewing items for $6 and Busy Monday

Once again, I paid $6 for a coupon worth $20 at a sewing store. I decided to purchase needles for J. She has none.

*J.&P. Coats Sewing Needles $3.99 (for J) eyes were gold
*J.&P. Coats Gold Plated Quilting Needles $3.00 (only 2 needles in the package) size 8 (very tiny)
*Prym Quilter's Curved Needles (4) $3.59
*14 loose, ornate, heart-shaped, metal buttons, ten cents each
*1 2/3 yard black/grey ticking fabric

The quilting needles are the tiniest I have ever seen. I use betweens for regular hand sewing because I like the small needle. However, I am not sure these will ever be used for regular sewing.

I am not a quilter, so I was not aware quilters ever used curved needles. I cannot guess the application. There are two 2-inch curved needles and two 2.5 curved needles. The smaller would fit around a quarter and the larger around a half dollar. No, I did not fit them around coins, but that is my guess.

While I love these coupons, a person can only get one coupon per month per business. I missed calling at the right time to get the KFC coupon. Some weeks, I forget to call and some weeks, I am not quick enough dialing.

Monday, I purchased another sewing coupon. At Harbor Freight I bought 4 cleaning cloths for $0.43. At Publix I bought a half-gallon of a2milk. I had not had any for more than 24 hours! I returned something at WM because the purchase was just a waste of money. I had the checkup for right eye after it was lasered to remove a bubble from the cataract surgery. My ocular blood pressure is fine. Those five stops wore me out.

Your turn
Do you know how a quilter could use a tiny curved needle? I have used a curved needle, so I understand the concept. Do you ever use coupons for sewing supplies/notions? Do you find that a day with multiple stops that take only a few minutes is draining?

Free Lunch and other stuff

Lunch was very good--ham, green beans, mashed potatoes, roll, and chocolate cake. Yes, there were leftovers for Dominique and she jumped right in the middle of them and scratched once to scatter them to the four corners of her pen...sigh.

As I sat there at the end of the meal and we talked, I cut Dominique's ham into small pieces for her. She likes it that way. A PhD in Poultry Science said chickens like what they are fed when they are young and want it that way when they are grown. Besides, I hate to see her pecking and throwing her meat, trying to rip off a piece.

A teacher who taught both my older children was at the dinner. There were several retired teachers there who wanted the dates and times of the other two free dinners!

There was a guy at the dinner with whom I discussed the spelling bee and a book my friend wrote. I talked this guy into entering the spelling bee, and now they are going to skip a year having one or not have one ever again, not sure.  Now, after talking to him, I have decided the format of the book I have started writing. I may knock out a chapter tonight after a nap. My friend wrote a book with chapters with an over-riding theme but no plot. That will suit me even though I have a plot book in the works, not much done.

I went to the doctor last Wednesday and still feel the same today, Tuesday, no better, and still have same degree of temp. The doctor's office had called and said the doctor wanted me to come in about my numbers for diabetes. When he saw me, he asked me why I came in! I had to explain the office staff called and said he wanted me to come in today.  Then, he remembered. lol...nice guy.

Bronchitis is not better, so he changed antibiotic. He was very unhappy with my A1C.  I went to WM before doctor and then had to return for meds. I was so tired. Inflammation causes AIC to rise, I am told, so no wonder it was higher than it should be!

Then, weary as I was, I had to go to Publix to get the a2milk that keeps me from pain and gastric distress. I have recommended this to so many people, that last week they were out. After a talk with the guy who orders, he said he would order more. So, today, there was twice as much or at least two rows of whole milk.

Of course, I tried some of what the guy was cooking and had a sample of soup. They make the best soup! I brought home a recipe from the sample guy.

I may have a bowl of oats for dinner along with a glass of milk. My stomach still hurts from sausage with MSG in it that I ate last night. Maybe I will have a grilled cheese sandwich and an apple.

Today, the skies were a brilliant blue with wisps and clumps of fluffy, white clouds. The sun shone so brightly. the whole scene was mesmerizing. Its the kind of sight I want to just drink in for hours. Of course, driving was important, too.

Your turn
Have you ever taken meds for a whole week and not felt one bit better at the end of the week? Is anyone writing a book? About what? Has anyone tried the a2milk yet?
