Thursday

I managed to get my hair washed tonight with Tommy's help. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow.

The only thing we did today was to gather the 3 ads. Tommy shopped--toilet paper, potatoes, bananas, milk for him, milk for me, Sweet Baby Ray's Vidalia BBQ Sauce. That bbq sauce is so good I could eat it with a spoon. Only the potatoes were reduced. This will be a low spend week, it appears.

We drove next door so I could see if the huge elm has broken branches, either fallen or hanging in the tree. Tommy had walked out to the little dogwood. He said it broke off at the ground. It was a dying tree, anyway. He tried to move it. But, it was too heavy for him to drag even an inch, much less to road.

For dinner I had baked chicken breast, baked potatoes and carrots. Tommy had chicken breast, potatoes, carrots, and greens.

I still have not pedaled. My arms and hands are trembling all the time. My back is bone on bone, so not sure if the trembling problem is from my back problems.

It was warm when we left the house, but I soon needed the jacket I carried with me. It was still windy, so that made it too cool for me.

Oh my! Forrest Gump just came on and the Elvis episode is on. Such fun. Gotta go.

Vaccines and Alzheimer's

Jan 27

steps 15,000

Sleep last night was disrupted waking up sweating. I asked Tommy to make sure ac was on and not heat. When I was upset, he said he left it on ac. However, he left it so high that it never came on. I slept some sitting up straight in the chair. I have not had a nap at all, consequently, I got a few things done, even washed some dishes.

We did go to Publix where almost everything I bought was either bogo or 'two for.'

Nature's Own bogo-bought one hamburger and one hotdog bun

Cheeto and Dorito--bogo for Tommy

Public Pizza Sauce-- 2 for $3, bought two

Kraft Parmesan Cheese--2 for $6, bought 2

Wheat Thins--b2g1, bought 3 Lightly Salted

Mt Olive Sweet Relish, no bargain

5 lbs Yellow Onions $4.99 marked to $3.99

Kleenex tissues--not on sale

2 salad mixes bogo, $2.50 each

We had leftovers for dinner. I had a small amount of the alfredo and a salad. Tommy had bbq on bun and salad, beans, I think.

We spent $51 and saved $24.

It seems getting a covid vaccine can be helpful with delaying Alzheimer's.

Researchers find a critical link between vaccinations and Alzheimer's disease

Speaking of vaccines, we will be getting one for pneumonia. Tommy has never had a vaccine for shingles. I will get another, too.

I tried Coca Cola Orange Cream

Jan 19

steps 10,300

IT'S GROSS!

I tasted it once and made a horrible face. Tommy  tried it and did not like it, either. I decided to give it a second chance. It was still horrible. Tommy wondered how it would taste with vanilla ice cream in it. I don't care. The problem is--I like to mix orange juice and Coke!!

We had no slush yesterday, not even a flake. The temperature is in the mid 20s and going lower. This Wednesday night will be frigid.

We collected the ads, even though I had not slept a second on Tuesday night or all day on Wednesday.

We bought Romaine, blueberries, sweet potatoes, garlic. I was feeling so horrible that we got Whopper, jr for each of us. At home, Tommy scrubbed the sweet potatoes, and I trimmed and oiled them for the oven. Then, I went to bed for a nap. I was willing to sleep for the rest of the night. But, I had no such luck.

I did manage to do my steps, the only thing besides shopping in Publix.

Dinner for Tommy: sweet potato, turnip greens from can, leftover ground beef. I had a cup of sweet potato from jacket.

My Whopper, Jr. had no lettuce, so they handed me two huge slices. I considered that part of my vegetable consumption.

I am grateful for a warm bed tonight. How about you?

Have you tried the orange cream Coke? Do you like it?

Wednesday Warmup

Jan 22

13,350 steps

I know 37F is not very warm, but compared to overnight temperatures, 37F is a warmup.

Last night, Tuesday, I did steps, then OT suggested I do more because I was shoding' to let her know when her time is up! She keeps leaving earlier and earlier.

I was so tired and frustrated, I just did not want to do more steps after she was leaving after only 30 minutes. She is having trouble at home. I want to get a timer that makes a 'ding' to keep her working until it dings.

I may have done more steps.

She showed me a picture of a scantily clad woman to whom her husband had sent money several times, claiming it was his brother's girlfriend. hmmm  He always has to go to town where the girl lives. So, she kicked him out. I feel sorry for her. She does not have her mind on my problems right here and her work. I don't mind at all her talking about her problems. I will commiserate with her like I did last night. She does not 'need' him to support her, so that is good. I almost called her to make sure she made the 90-minute drive safely.

At any rate I did not pedal more on Tuesday night.

Tuesday night, I looked online at Publix ad. There were four things 'chosen just for you.' There was a2milk, Nature's Own Honey Wheat bread, Coke, and something I forgot. Publix bscb was $5.49 bogo, so almost rock bottom for bscb. Yes, I do buy and eat all four items. So, Publix is watching me. I did buy all those items and a few more. Then, we got the other two ads and did not hang around the store to buy more.

When I awoke Wednesday morning, I was so hot, like fire. I came down the hall trying to figure out why I was so very hot. I sat in my chair, uncovered with only a summer nightgown on my body, rather than a jacket and blanket as usual. Finally, my body turned icy. Then it was time to cover up. I think the two wool blankets, flannel sheets, and bedspread overheat me. But, I am only staying warm until I am overheating.  Maybe it was a hot flash.

I sent Tommy into CVS to use a 40% off any full-price item coupon. He got a Revlon lipstick for me--Pink in the Afternoon. The lipstick was about $7 instead of $11 and change. It seems all my lipstick has disappeared, probably under the car seat,

When I went to hatch to let guy put groceries back there, I discovered someone had hit the car. !!! I suppose this is to be expected. The mark in sort of a scrap about 6 Inches by 12 inches, definitely hit.

Do you have every scrape, ding, and dent repaired?

At Last!

We sent in our request for a mail-in ballot about two weeks ago. I have been afraid we would not get a ballot in time. Our mail-in ballots came today. I have been fretting over this situation. Usually, Tommy gets the mail at noon, as soon as it comes. Today, he did not get the mail from the box until after 6 pm. I was so relieved to receive the envelope. It is filled out, just waiting for two people to witness my signature.

The large white envelope held Five (5) other items: instruction sheet, secrecy envelope, affidavit envelope, brown mailing envelope. Whew! And there were lots of instructions on the instruction sheet. Now, we either have to have it notarized or have two witness sign. We are going the witness route. We can witness for each other, then find one witness to use for both of us.

At 8 pm and rushed off by 8:30 to find marked-down Halloween items. There was little to be had and certainly not pumpkins, fake ones. A furniture store did have Fall items and pumpkins, but none were marked down. All specifically Halloween items were packed away. So, that is that. I refuse to chase a bargain right now.

I did find an orange container and a black and orange pick.

We needed a nap. We got up right when we were supposed to be elsewhere, snatched on clothes and left. The people asked why were so late, thinking we had forgotten. We sheepishly told them we were asleep.

Last night, we did a bit of decluttering. I had saved boxes, large and small for a specific reason. Well, we overdid it. So, Tommy broke down boxes I brought out to him. They are in the garbage truck.

Publix was next. I bought the wrong Cheerios for Tommy. So, one of us will return them. I like original Cheerios and cannot stand Honey Nut Cheerios, his favorite. They even stink when he eats them.  I did get two half gallons of a2milk that is 2/$9.

I switched to Quaker Old-Fashioned Oats from Special K which is too expensive! I rarely find them bogo. Besides, I like oats. I would eat them all the time except for the fact they have to be prepared. I am not lazy, just in pain. Tommy would do all the dipping of oats, measuring of water, and heating, but he does so much for me.

Something strange happened here just before Halloween. I had changed out all batteries in things around the living rooms, candles, Red Kiss with lights inside, pillar candles. Tommy was standing and trying to use the tv remote. Suddenly, the Red Kiss fairy lights came on. He had not noticed. I certainly had noticed and was a little dumbfounded. He could not get the tv remote to turn off the lights. I had to turn them off manually. What on earth? Has your tv remote ever turned off another device that had its own remote???

Today, as I got out of the car and tried to turn and walk up the ramp, I stumbled and almost fell, stumbling toward the ramp until I could grab it. Later, I asked Tommy if he saw me. He said, "No, but he did see me stumbling/staggering in Lowe's parking lot when I dropped my debit card. Then, he let go of his walker here in the living room and held out both arms and slightly wavered back and forth, knees slightly bent, saying, "You looked like you were hanging ten. He really did look like a surfer. We had a good laugh.

I was feeling woozy when I got out at Lowe's and then saw my debit card flutter to the ground, I momentarily assured myself I could pick it up. No, I cannot. I looked up and a man was exiting his car. So, I called to him and asked him if he could help me. He approached me eagerly and asked me what he could do. I pointed to the card and asked him to get it for me so I would not fall. Nice guy.

I love DST, but I hate the early evening. We had to be home by 5 pm tonight as it quickly became too dark to drive once we came home. Soon, the day will end an hour earlier. DST has never bothered my sleep. Now, how could my sleep habits get any worse? In the past DST never disrupted my sleep, school, work, or health.

Ooops, I stored away Skelli with two AA batteries in his head, so we have to buy the proper screwdriver, take them out tomorrow. It's the only thing in which we put batteries.

Tomorrow, Auburn plays at 11:45 am. I want to go out to stores. So, he will willingly get up and take me in order to get back in time for the game. Fall is the only time he will go out in order to get back here for a game. Otherwise, he is sleepy or watching something else. Tomorrow, he will be encouraging me to go soon. Then, I can take a nap while he watches to game in peace.

It's late; my nap has worn off.

What's on your agenda for this weekend.

New Angels

I attended the medical appointment for the lymphedema legs that compress my legs. The appointment almost killed me. It hurt so much. Mainly, it hurt my back trying to sit so the legs could go up my leg.

The young women were so nice, not nurses, just people who believed me when I said I was hurting and that the plastic hurt my toes just to touch my toes.

After that we left to go to Chicken Salad Chick. We passed the main Piggly Wiggly. I wanted to go in but I was too hurt and hungry.

We sat in the parking lot and ate. Then we headed home. I wish I cold walk better and go to Homewood often for the special shops like Cookie Fix. I could probably walk enough to counteract the sugar. Seriously, there are so many specialty shops, probably all too expensive.

Next was Publix. I bought almost 8 lbs. of bananas. I will, as they ripen, peel, cut in half and freeze. Take that dock strike!

I read that people are stripping Walmart of tp. Is that fear or reality, I wonder. Only one thing I bought was not bogo or on sale. Only one item that was bogo, and that I wanted was off the shelves, sold out--frozen broccoli. The price is okay when on sale, otherwise, not inexpensive enough to buy.

Shopping at Publix:

1 Drumsticks bogo

2 Ziploc Snaplock Snack Bags bogo

2 Publix cups, not bogo, going back

1 Swanson Chicken Stock, bogo

2 Publix Coleslaw Mix, bogo

1 Julienne Dried Tomatoes for Mediterranean Pasta

Jimmy Dean Cooked Sausage

3 Lipton Dips, 3/$5

2 Kraft Medium Cheddar Cheese bogo

1 Nestles Morsels

The bananas are where I can see them ripen and freeze them. I don't want them past their prime when I freeze.

Okay, more not bogo items are here. I was mistaken.

I took a nap from 4 pm to 8 pm and felt groggy and disoriented for about two minutes. I thought it was morning. Now, I just feel rested. We are going to get my 'legs' on me for an hour. These two young women were so nice and helpful. I feel so lucky to find one more place that believes me and works to help me. Everything I told them was met with knowing nods and tips for living better and bringing down swelling.

Tonight, TV was all PBS for us. We both enjoy these programs.

Tommy was eating leftovers when I awoke. So, I am eating leftovers, too, at 10 pm. I will have salad with chicken breast. I wish I had another meal from Chicken Salad Chick! Salmon croquettes are moved forward. No problem.

Today was exhausting, but very productive moving me toward better health!

Even though people are stripping the toilet paper and paper towels from shelves, on TV I heard these items would not be delayed.  I knew that, so did not buy any. Of course, these people are creating artificial shortages! Some of the things I bought are not necessities, but maybe a good sale for holidays. Bananas are the only thing I bought in case of a shortage.

What are you buying in anticipation of the strike?

Have you thought about a shortage of pharmaceuticals?

Poison Oak

Lack of sleep and the national events of Sunday evening rendered me incapable of writing a post. I had been 29 hours without sleep when I finally was able to succumb on Sunday night. Then, I slept 8.5 hours and felt better than I have in weeks.

Sunday evening, I finally opened a can of salmon for salmon croquettes. First, I had to get all the black stuff off the salmon. I could smell it and became ravenous. I must have eaten a quarter of the can as it came out of the can (not heated). It was delicious! Mama always put crushed saltine crackers in her croquettes. Decades ago, I decided oats were a better, more healthful choice. We had no saltines or oats last night. So, I used cornmeal. There were just enough chopped onions in the refrigerator

When I tried to form the patties to fry in olive oil, the patties were too dry to hold together, so I added a bit of olive oil. I should have used two eggs, but I only used one because I didn't have a whole can of salmon. They were good. If I had fried potatoes, gravy, and Great Northern Beans, it would be just like in my youth. But, I don't eat like that anymore. I had green beans with it. I forgot we had mustard greens ready to heat and eat. I only remembered when I saw them on Tommy's plate.

Tommy took the ads and made a list. He actually put Prego Spaghetti sauce on the list. He uses it once I make spaghetti and puts it on other food items. He added an apple pie, just one at bogo for $3. It was only 6" across, thankfully.

The main thing I wanted was a bag of salad mix. Fresh Express was bogo making it $3.50. I thought that was much more expensive than usual. So, I had him get only one. Dasani was b2g1, so we bought 3. He got bananas for me and forgot the bread. We need to go to another store tomorrow. Plus, we still have a bit.

Where we were going to use the little chainsaw around the dogwood tree is a mass of poison oak. Now, we need to get rid of that! The mower wants to get rid of it in the fall when it dies back. I want it gone now. Besides, touching it in winter can still cause a rash/reaction. I took poison oak off little and large trees at my house when I noticed it. But. this is quite the infestation and won't be easily removed.

An electrician is scheduled to come and put up the three light fixtures in the kitchen this weekend. I saw a post on Next Door that made its way to the internet. At last, we will have proper light!

Shockingly, he bought Life and Cheerios. Both were bogo. I didn't realize he had no more boxes stacked up on the bookcase by his chair. Yes, he wants them close. I gave up storing them on a shelf in the kitchen...lol.

Well, I managed to sleep from 4-6:30 and could not even wake up. I have no idea, no remembrance of say, "Okay, I will be right there." Yes, I did come to the living room about 7 pm.

I told Tommy we need to work every day to get the dining room where the electrician can get a ladder in there to work. He said, "I guess that means I have to do it." He is a good man. Actually, when cleaner comes, I will direct her what to do that will make it less onerous for Tommy.

Tommy did not know how to buy strawberries. He has bought some almost dead ones. So, I finally instructed him to only buy shiny berries and to notice how some are dull, and not so plump. Now, he buys the best the store has. He washed them in vinegar, rinsed, dried, and stored them in a glass bowl with SnapLock lid. They are as good now as when they were bought last week. And, they are delicious.  Every night, I have about five. Yum!

Tonight, I had a chicken tender, a salmon croquette, lots of green beans, salad, and strawberries.

Have you ever battled poison oak?

Wednesday Ads Collected

Wednesday was so hot, yet only 90F. Around dawn, though, I opened the door and stuck my hand and head out. It was not hot at all, almost balmy. But, when we left the house around 2 pm, the conditions had changed radically. It was very hot and humid.

We got the first ad (Pig)and found nothing after a cursory examination. At The Pig, I told Tommy to get bread because it is regularly cheaper than the bread at Publix. The Dromedary pimento in 2 ounce jars was not present, so I had him get two 4 oz jars. I will use half and put the jar in the freezer. We were charged 10% surcharge of $0.72 and discounted $0.38 for being over 60.

I had a list ready for Publix--milk, bananas, strawberries, coleslaw mix. Since the coleslaw was 2 for $4, I had buy 2. Strawberries were 3/$10. My bread was bogo, so cheaper than The Pig.

Altogether, we spent about $44. We most likely buy a bit more.

Dinner tonight for me was chicken with BBQ sauce, slaw, green beans. I will have a banana and strawberries later.

When Tommy came out of The Pig, he was saying what took so long. I did not notice he spent a long time. The store is remodeling. The center cross aisle is being eliminated. I hate that. Plus, more importantly was the fact it will now include an Ace Hardware Store.

When I lived in Cullman, I used Ace. Then, one day it was gone. Later, I tried calling to see where they were now located. I could find the address in the telephone book, but never quite located the building. I would call The Pig for different things. But, when I called Ace. I got The Pig and apologized and said I had dialed the wrong number.  One day when I was in The Pig, I was startled to find a huge hardware section. On further examination, I found it was Ace. So, now I finally knew where was the Ace 'building.'

Tuesday night, I spent time looking at videos of how to make a pool noodle lollipop for my Christmas decorations. What I found was that I needed three pool noodles for each lollipop! I have three in three different colors. We had noticed this last week that there are no more pool noodles outside the three stores we pass. So, this is a problem. These were only $1, but there were ones costing $4. I wanted this to be a really cheap project.

Last Wednesday, the day before the 4th, I ordered a refill of Singulair. Saturday, I stopped by to get the prescription. I got three. When I arrived home, there was no Singulair. Amazingly, as soon as I ran out before the 4th, my congestion stopped. The pharmacist could find no history/pattern of this happening. Now, I wonder if my problems will start again when I actually get the prescription. Now, I need to consult my allergist. The pharmacist and I did discuss rebounds and such. It is a puzzle.

Tommy had for dinner--chicken, English peas, and slaw. I wondered but just now thought to ask.

Project Tomorrow

Tommy got the guy across the street to cut a Christmas wreath in two piece that was here, probably belonging to his boarder twenty years ago. I will wire the halves back to back to fit over the mailbox. I will take out the elements I don't like and put ones I do like into this saddle. Right now, my problem is the little shards of metal still clinging tightlyto the 1/4 inch wire. So, instead of trying to sand it off or use a rasp, I will cover it in tape of some kind. I want to be safe from this metal.

Tonight, I took several large things from the kitchen counter. With no light in the room, it is easy to let things stack up, cluttering the counter. Yes, tomorrow, I need to find an electrician who will actually come here.

We just finished a Nova documentary on China's Terra Cotta Army. I saw the exhibit at The Birmingham Museum of Art when it came to Birmingham. Now, I know more about it. While there, we went to the gift shop. I bought a letter opener with blue and white handle. That was lost in my house. I wonder if they still have those. Tomorrow, I can call.

Before that on Nova, we watched a documentary about the Amazon that revealed amazing facts never known until now.

School supplies are on sale now at Publix. I need to look at the ad and the ads from other stores.

If you have been in a Piggly Wiggly, have you seen an ACE Hardware store in there?

Did you see the  Chinese Terra Cotta army? Where?

Sort of Busy Tuesday Grocery Shopping

Tommy casually mentioned that he watered the flowers while I took a nap. He said he decided to check his blood sugar first and he ate because he knew it would drop too low. He is using it correctly, not just waiting for the alarm to sound. I sort of talk to him about how to manage the monitor and diabetes in general. He would yell about me telling him to have a carb to raise his blood sugar and then when I told him to have protein and fiber, he would get upset again because he said I was contradicting what I said--eat carb to raise his blood sugar. I had explained before that carbs raised his blood sugar and protein would keep blood sugar from plunging. He gets the low blood sugar raised so he can remember to have the protein. whew!

We went to Cullman today. I finally managed to get another appointment to get my teeth cleaned. I called Monday morning, Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning, and finally on Tuesday afternoon found an appointment for the cleaning. The idea was to eat before the 1 pm appointment, and I was getting woozy. We sat in BK line, got Whopper Jr and had ten minutes to get to appointment. I was going to floss in waiting room and run a toothbrush around teeth. Maybe do it in bathroom. But, no sooner than I sat down, she called me back. I was embarrassed and apologized for gunky teeth.

She gave me two toothbrushes. I think I have had this toothbrush before and it is spiky like a needle and hurts my gums. I said so, and she assures me this one is soft, that everyone loves this model. No, it is spiky and hurts. So, Tommy has two new toothbrushes. I was complaining about my dull teeth, not really yellow but, not white. It is from inside of my teeth. She said that Sensodyne new formula would brighten. So, I have two tubes of that to try. My teeth are not sensitive, but I can try it.

I have had one tooth with plaque so bad I was annoyed by the roughness on my tongue. After she finished cleaning my teeth, I complained that I could still feel plaque and put my tongue on the place. Well, it appears I have a little sliver of tooth broken off an incisor. That is annoying. She said I did not have much plaque at all for it having been two years since last cleaning.

If anyone thinks I should get a dentist here, I will not because I have gone to this dentist for over 30 years. I am terrified of going to the dentist. I know him. He has not made me hurt ever. The fear of a new dentist would throw me right back to being traumatized at the dentist office. This is a deep-seated, and 65-year-old fear. Even with familiarity with him, I am still really nervous.

We left without going anywhere else that I really needed to go. We got my mail and headed home. I took a nap and we went to Publix.

I used only bogo or some other deal and coupons from Publix.

*2000 IU, D3 $8.59 3 bottles, used on $4 coupon on 3 bottles making it 3 x$4.59.

Specia K $6.71, I thought this was bogo!

Tomato Basil Wheat Thins, Family Size, $5.39 Bogo 1 @$3.39

Ritz Crackers, Tommy requested, $5.99 bogo 1 x$3.00

2 Bird's Eye frozen broccoli, $3.49 bogo 2@$2.00 each

Pillsbury Fudge Brownie Mix $2.49 bogo 2@ $2.00

Peter Pan PB $4.11 bogo 2@ $2.05

Blueberry Muffin Mix $1.69 bogo 2@ $0.84

Italian Salad Mix $4.99 bogo 1@ $2.50

5 lbs potatoes $3.99

Cento Marin artichoke hearts $3.79

Saving Summary from receipt.                                                                                                                       Store Coupon $14.00                                                                                                                                     Special Price Savings $22.45

Savings at Publix $36.45

It seems like I bought more, but this was the whole receipt. I also had a $2 digital coupon that came off the receipt. I got it for buying $10 worth of groceries. Total receipt--$54.

The sweet mixes will last for months. I put fresh blueberries in these along with the little hard chips included in the mix. They are so much better with an overflow of fresh blueberries.

I was looking for Wheat Thins Lightly Salted, but found the basil tomato version had less sodium, too. I will not just eat these for the fun of eating them. These will be reserved for time I just want a couple of crackers with cheese.

I have enough Vitamin D3 to last me a year and still be in date.

Even though the salad is bogo, I get one and before the ad goes off, I get another. That way, the salad is very fresh, as fresh as bagged salad can be.

Dinner--two hotdogs and enormous helping of slaw. Tommy--two chicken legs, larger helping of slaw than I had. And, I had a lot.

Tommy washed a load of clothes before we went to Publix, so I have to hang those.

Tomorrow's post is just two questions on two different subjects. I am tired of typing today.

Anyone else terrified of going to dentist? What happened to cause you such fear?

Do you use a toothpaste to whiten teeth?

Cheeeese!

Hallelujah! We found my cheese at a great price--$4/lb, rather than $4.79/ 8 oz. My 8 oz. block of cheese is now worth $2! That is less half of the price.

As we were leaving, Tommy was cutting the tags and other store stuff from his fake Crocs. I watched him put one shoe on. Then, he pulled out the other shoe--"Damn!" He said he had gotten two left shoes. That was hard to imagine because they were on a plastic holder with tags. We were going to pack them up. He was getting the old shoes to wear once more when he discovered there were two right shoes. We had a good laugh. So, one less chore.

We both needed our milk. Mine was still $4.49 for a half-gallon at Publix. I got my yearly Nabisco Grahams Original. I like them dipped in milk or with peanut butter.

I did not sleep well last night, so I cancelled something planned for this afternoon and took a nap. The mower came and the grass looks great. Tommy's gate to the backyard has been off many years. Someone took it off and never put it back. So, mower put it back on. It turns out that the gate only needed to be lifted onto the hinge part of the fence. I don't understand that, but whatever. It is done. I am fixing things that make this place look shabby. Now, Tommy lets me do what needs to be done.

Last night, allergies attacked me again. I am worse, aching eardrums, tinnitus, sore neck, not throat. When I went to allergist and had tests when I was 21, he came back with results and said, "It looks like you weren't meant to live in this world!" That is how I feel right now. In spite of that, we have had a good day. The sun shone today and it was dry.

Dinner will be late tonight--turkey breasts, broccoli, carrots, potatoes roasted in a pan. Then, I will have strawberries, blueberries, and grapes.

Do you have allergies?

Wednesday Podiatrist

We both went to the podiatrist Wednesday. She trimmed our toenails. It was a mixed experience.

IT HURT.

But, she did what was necessary, digging out the ingrown toenails. She rubbed something on my feet, like a wonderful oil. Tommy was not hurt at all. I was noisy when it hurt.

I expressed the fear that I was going to lose a toe, foot or more because of the condition of my toes. She laughed and assured me I was not in danger of losing a toe.

The whole ordeal of going there was exhausting--walking, my lower back hurting sitting in her chair. Time spent waiting.

She refuted things endocrinologist told us about diabetes. Good to know. She asked us both how long we had had diabetes, what meds we took. I was saying how the metformin gave me diarrhea. She explained that the metformin removed sugar from blood and gave me dumps. Well, I would have never touched sugar or a carb ever again to stop that reaction if I had known. None of the written material I was given had this information.

Endocrinologist told Tommy he needed to have the "bump" under/behind his big toe corrected because it would break down and become infected. He has had hammertoes since he was a small child. Shoes will not correct this. The podiatrist said it could not be corrected now without a lot of surgery. She said if he cannot get a diabetic shoe on his foot, what was the point. I will take her word over endo.

We went to Lowe's and found an electric cart outdoors, so I went inside using it. The seat had nothing but nasty looking, and shredded foam. The back was bare down to surface with bit of foam still glued to back. I took a red throw from the back seat and used that to cover the cart. Inside, I found a knockout rose for $19.98. No way. So, I found a discounted one, mostly dead but with viable looking buds for $9.98. Plants are easy to revive. Then, I bought pink (I think) purslane for my concrete bunny sitting out front. Purslane is succulent, so it should survive the heat.

Next, we got three store ads that I have not bothered to read. I was so exhausted that I took a very long nap. Tommy had whatever he wanted, and I had spaghetti and salad. I called a friend while Tommy was getting one ad. She said she knows she will never be able to say she feels well ever again. That was a 16 second call.

When I went to bed Tuesday night, my head was much less congested. But, when I awoke on Wednesday, I was dizzy and congested again. Elevated temp was down. Yes, I do become ill from my allergies. My congratulations to anyone who does not have allergies. The privet are rampant at the other end of the street. Hopefully, they will quit blooming soon.

Thursday, the bit of vertigo morphed to full on vertigo. This hardly ever happens with me. I don't know if I can take Meclizine or not, so I will have to wait for morning to talk to doctor's office. I did take it, but that was long ago, and the prescription has expired.

In a bit, I will have some horseradish that will clear my sinuses.

I went over the three ads looking for Kraft Cheese on sale. Tommy ate Gruyere. It is not my choice. He only needed milk, and I needed bananas. So, the trip to Publix was short for us. This will be a low grocery spending week.

When I brush my teeth, I sit in my chair.  When I got up from commode, I bumped my head on the tile opposite the commode. It is not hard to stay upright. Tommy has remarked that the way I bump the hall on both sides sounds like a pinball machine. I win when I don't fall. Makes me happy.

Do you ever go to podiatrist to have nails trimmed or other work?

Was it good for you, too?

Do you use purslane in sunny, hot areas?

I did not edit this, so good luck.

Wasting Food and Selling a Car

The friend who wants to buy my car still wants it. I drove it today, and my back did not hurt getting in or out. Of course, my back was rested when I got in and drove it so little that my back was in good shape when I got out. Maybe I can drive it after all.

I sent her an email that I could not allow the car to go that far. I think I said they could bring their mechanic. The husband and wife are coming when she cleans. I don't roll that way. I can only handle one person at a time. This is the way I always prefer dealing with people. Otherwise, I cannot keep up with people doing their own thing and me trying to keep up. I cannot deal with selling a car and telling her what to clean.  Actually, the problem is she is going to help me sort and put away Christmas and other things. So, I need to be there and with husband during car looking.

I wasted food--my precious pot of spaghetti. Last night, I told Tommy I would put the spaghetti away when he asked what to use to store it. He had put pasta away. Today, about 2 pm, he asked me what to do with spaghetti sauce. So, it had to be dumped. I was so crushed because I wanted spaghetti, and not only did I get a second helping, it had to be wasted. Next week, I will make another pot.

Tonight, I wanted tuna. I had one boiled egg left since I did not make myself a deviled egg, well, two deviled eggs. I had about two cups of chopped salad. I put a Tablespoon of MW, the chopped egg, and a can of tuna, stirred together and placed on top of the chopped Romaine. It was delicious, and just what I needed.

Tommy had ham, kale, green peas.

I put on a huge bag of kale earlier. I could barely get them in the pot, yet after simmering with a bottle of water, they were soft and delicious, about two inches high in the same pan. I may have some kale later.

I have retained the 15 pound weight loss. I deliberately overate for about three days. The scales don't move. Doctor has not returned my call from 3 weeks ago. I am worried.

Today, we bought groceries at Publix.
a2milk was $4 for 1/2 gal. rather than $4.99 bought 2
white onion $2.12 @ $0.71/lb
Beefsteak tomato $1.92 @ $3.49/lb (exorbitant price/lb)
Nature Made Vit D3, 2000IU, 250 count
Had $4 coupon for NM Vitamins, and $2 Publix coupon
3 bananas $0.96
Welch Grape Jam $3.09
2 Lindt bunnies, 2 for $5.19

I forgot to buy apples for me. Tommy never eats apples. I eat banana, apple, and blueberries every day. We will put lots of my milk in the refrigerator before The sale goes off on Tuesday night.

We got the ads for other two stores while we were out but did not examine them for our cherry-picking trips.

I stopped at a yard sale today. I bought Keto for Life, by Mark Sisson with Brad Kerns, 2019 ed. It may not be any good, but it was only $1. I found a spaghetti strap top, pink sequins in rows, for $1. I plan to use this for Barbie dresses. Plus, I got a tiny buttery cake square for $1. On Saturday they will have new merchandise. I plan to go.

So, that was our day. Nothing much, all calm. All calm is a good day for me after the last two! Even the wind calmed down!

Do you dislike people descending on you when both people need your attention in order for things to go smoothly? Plus, I am paying one by the hour and she is involved with the other person? This is only in my home, since I have managed multiple when on other projects. I can handle two or more people in same location, just not in my home.

Do you ever feel sick when you waste food that is a favorite?

Do you eat Keto and why?

Never mind all this stuff below. I cannot get it to go away!

Pest Control Fail

This is my third night of sleep, sleeping at night for about 6 hours which I can supplement with a nap. This a relief. I do believe it is related to taking med in the morning instead of the evening.

I did get one item that was not in the store that was advertised as bogo--French's Fried Onions. This is for green bean casserole.

Three pounds of frozen blueberries are on the stove. I cook them with about 1/4th cup of sugar and store them in pint jars to eat with yogurt. I have no idea how bold was turned on. The last time I did this, I really enjoyed the healthy snack. About a month or six weeks after Tommy told me I finished the last pint, he brought a pint that was moldy that was pushed back where neither of us could see it. I was so sad. So was he. There is no room in the freezer, but this time I will make room for at least two pints. I cannot wait to have some later.

We contracted pest control for the inside and outside of the house. The guy said they would spray the house Wednesday or Thursday. Well, here is is Friday night. I called them about 3 pm to discuss what was happening. No one knows anything about spraying inside the house. They have no record of us calling. However, I caught a bit of a text about spraying the yard for mosquitoes. I was complaining about fleas. FLEAS in the house!

Plus, I emphasized no texts! I get no notification of texts arriving, and they are hard to access. Plus, the screen goes dark and turns off the text when I regain light. I refuse to search for texts! I don't like texts on this phone. My last phone was okay with texts. I ran out of best flea killer I have ever used and forgot to get more. So, I am annoyed that fleas will bite me again. And, they have the cc number and probably have charged us.

The heavy rain forecasted did not affect us here. Pollen has been tormenting me, but it appears it didn't rain enough to wash it away sufficiently for me. It drizzled on and off.

I desperately need a new prescription for glasses. The only thing I can read is the laptop with magnification! Books are out of the question. Plus, I cannot stand the sun lately. I have no idea why my eyes are so sensitive to the blaze of the sun. Then, I read that as a person ages, the eyes are more sensitive to the sun. I will get prescription sunglasses!

As you age, has the sun caused you a problem being too bright?

Galileo Thermometer

Tommy has a Galileo thermometer, but not this one. It does not work, though.  The fixes are on the internet, so got that. If I cannot fix it, he will sell it. Well, he might sell it anyway. His is over 40 years old. Maybe my friend who has a shop will buy it.

Today, we got so much done. We left home at 12:30 and arrived home after 6:30. It almost did me in. I was thwarted by electric carts that did not work at two places. A time crunch caused me to just leave one store for an appointment.

As I was hurrying along in a slow cart, I came upon a wreath storage that was reduced from $20 to $6. I snatched that up along with a red bin with no lid in sight. I will go back to search for the lid later.

We shopped at Publix, forgot some things and came back after we abandoned the pharmacy that screwed up both our prescriptions. My prescription has been there for three days, at least. They told me it would be ready in 25 minutes. Shock! Tommy talked to a person this morning there who told him that his new insulin would be $30, just like the old one. Well, it is $70 now. While he was talking to the person, I tried to get him to get name and if she were a pharmacist or tech. Soooo, he could not say who told him his med price. And, they could not fill it until Saturday, yet Friday morning at 10:30, it was supposed to be filled and waiting. That is when we left to go back across the street to Publix. We decided to just come home.

We bought so much food we can barely get it in the refrigerator and freezer. Tommy was distressed I bought so much. But, I cannot bear to relate that because I am exhausted. This post will not be edited at all. I am beyond tired.

Do you have or have you ever had a Galileo thermometer?

Jesus and John Wayne

 Noon Wednesday.

The plumbers have been here for over an hour. We are getting a new commode. This one is only two or three years old. The jets in the bottom of the commode are clogged, so that the least bit of solid will not go out unless the commode is flushed up to six times. The water on the floor is from a worn-out gasket between tank and bowl. The alternative to purchasing a new commode was as expensive as the new commode. The bill today was $800. On Dec. 28th it was $389, so right at $1200 in less than a month.

We agreed to get an American Standard last time in order to get it done and over with. Well, this time, I told him we only wanted a Kohler. He is not going to want to replace this commode in another two or three years.

He abuses commodes! He will listen to me from now on.

On Tuesday night, I lay down a little after 6 pm. I told him to wake me a little before 7 pm. I really wanted to watch The Night of the Hunter. I was motivated to get up. Well, he called me at 7:30, 8:30, and 9 pm. I awoke at midnight with 6 hours sleep. It is noon on Wednesday, and I have still not slept. Ugh! This is a problem for me. Of course, I have nowhere to go.

They have the water off, installing the commode, so I cannot eat what I want. I had tuna salad with no eggs. I washed the celery with bottled water.

Thursday

I was exhausted yesterday. I took a long nap right at dinnertime, sleeping for another six hours right before bedtime. So, I slept none on Wednesday night. Today, I lay down at 2 pm and got up at 4 pm all on my own. Maybe I will be able to sleep tonight. I certainly need more sleep.

The guy who put the sealer around the base of the commode left the product smeared all over the floor. I have no idea how to get it off. It does not matter since I cannot get down there to get it off. The first time I sat on the seat, it creaked, so I wonder if it is breakable! It continues to creak, certainly not Kohler standards.

This weather is wonderful. It has been 68F for hours today or above. Of course, as soon as I arrived at Publix, it started pouring. Thankfully, it was only sprinkles by the time someone brought me a cart. Everything I went to buy was bogo--frozen broccoli florets, Chobani low-fat Greek yogurt. Bread and bananas were not on sale. My a2 milk was on sale, but will get that another day--$3.99 for half gallon. We did not look at ads yet. Nor did we collect the ads from The Pig, and Food Giant.

I just received a book I ordered--Jesus and John Wayne--How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation.

"Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping, revisionist history of the last seventy-five years of white evangelicalism, revealing how evangelicals have worked to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism―or in the words of one modern chaplain, with “a spiritual badass.” from the back of the book."

It looks to be a page-turner. Have you heard of this book?

The weather prediction tonight has temps in 50s next week and NO RAIN? I can handle that!

@#$% I FELL

Actually, I slumped all the way down and could not get up.

Once again, I 'fell' coming in the front door. My shoe caught on the loose screw in the metal strip under the door, on the threshold. This is the same place I have fallen twice before, the same screw Tommy forbade me to remove by just pulling it out. I was going to put a bit of a toothpick in the hole with wood glue and replace the screw. Well, now I think he knows it is a problem.

Lest you think I came crashing down like I did the last time, let me dissuade you of that idea. I was holding the doorknob with my right hand and slumped to the right, leaning on the door as I started down. I grabbed the doorknob with my left hand. Then, I slowly sank to my knees which hurt my good knee. Then, I very slowly sort of slumped to my left side, the side of the shoulder with rotator cuff tear and another tear across chest muscle.

The only problem was that I could not lay my head down and I could not straighten my left knee because of the way I was lying. Of course, Tommy cannot help me get up. And, I cannot put weight on either knee. Otherwise, I would just get up on hands and feet like a baby and straighten up. I can still manage that but not getting on my knees!

One of the firemen had done this last year. When I told them I did not just fall, but the same loose and sticking up screw caught me again, he asked me if I had a screwdriver. He attempted to screw it in after putting a yard stick in the hole. He put in too much wood, I think. Anyway, he asked if he could just remove the screw. So, it is not in the way anymore. Tommy would not allow me to take it out. The strip is stable, so it is not a big deal.

We had just come in from the grocery store. I went to the bathroom after they hauled me up, and we headed out again...lol. We may be in for a couple of days. Roads are closed, the interstate north of here.

I went out for red storage tubs and found a 90% off sale. Of course, I had to shop that after there were no red tubs. I spent $1.66. for six items.

Spring nightgowns are in the stores. I now have two and was trying them on for looks once home, not fit. Both have pockets!!! This is thrilling.

Grocery store--red potatoes, broccoli, carrots, apples, milk, eggs. The French toast people were out en masse. I wanted to run screaming, but I cannot even walk. I did not want to yell at anyone, just shriek to get away, sort of a primal scream.

Tommy 'plugs in a light bulb and puts it in the washing machine,' took spray cans we are returning to Lowe's, covered the outdoor faucet. We are prepared. We are set. We will have to go to a motel if we lose power as this is too cold to stay home and tough it out. The upside of losing power for a few days and going to a motel? He will finally be convinced we need a generator!

He washed kitchen laundry this morning, so that is done. Everything else was clean.

The light bulb idea works since his washing machine has never frozen. I was lucky that I had a basement below my washing machine, so no frozen pipes ever and they were not insulated at all.

What preps do you make before a freeze?

Do you or someone you know have a stumbling block that causes a fall or trip?

Grocery Deals

Today, despite how I felt, we shopped in three grocery stores. I felt so awful, I made him come with me. I am still fuzzy-headed, in much pain, and one kidney hurts, the one I fell on. Or, maybe it is the uti. This is groceries bought this week. The store was packed like it was the day before Thanksgiving. People were after the same BOGOs I was.

Short and sweet...

Publix

two packages of 2 deep dish Pillsbury pie crusts bogo ... $4.59 for four crusts

2 red delicious apples $2.98, so large I will only eat 1/2 each day

2 Nestles semi-sweet morsels bogo, so $4.19 for both packages

Mandarins $4.99 maybe 3 lbs

4 one-lb packages Land O Lakes butter bogo, so $14, $3.50 each lb. These were packaged in half stick.

Carrots Organic 1 lb. $2.49, not a good price, but better than anything else.

Gold Potatoes, $6.99, not a great price, either.

Yellow onions $2.99

Lakewood Cranberry juice--only cranberry, one quart and $10.99, for uti that I have antibiotic to cure.

Savings--$36.41

Total $79.64

Piggly Wiggly

Free item--McCormick Brown Gravy mix

2 Miracle Whip $10.80, $5.40 each

Broccoli Crown $1.93, but advertised for $.99. I will have to look into this.

Turkey-sized Reynold's cooking bags

Lewis Brown and Serve Rolls. $2.03. I wanted the cheap ones like I had at home. I waited too late last year.

60 or Better We had a minus $1.18 x 3. Not sure how that worked. So -$3.54

Total $26.97

Food Giant

BSCB $1.89/lb, so got $12.92

Coleslaw $1.99

Total $15.43

Total Spent Today $122.04

WRONG

I bought at Publix Campbell's cream of chicken and cream of mushroom, no sodium, BOGO. So, it was $.99 cents/can. Then, bag of cornmeal, and one other thing on sale. That was another $7, I think.

So Corrected Total would be around $130.

This is regular spending with Thanksgiving bargains thrown in. Some of it may not be eaten until Christmas or next year.

I am too sick to go over this post. So, here it is.

We keep chocolate chips for a snack. It beats more costly and more fattening snacks. It might take us a year to eat the two cheap bags I bought today. I keep them in a short, amber, pink jar with a drinking lid. We just open it and shake the chips out.

Of course, I will cook the chicken to freeze. I think we will have a chicken/brown rice/broccoli casserole. We will both have the chicken/brown rice and broccoli. Tommy loves that. I will make two small casseroles so I can put cheese and pimiento in mine. Each of the tiny casseroles will have one chicken breast and will make at least two meals.

I wanted to make pumpkin pie without the pie crust. But, Tommy really wants a pie crust. So, he gets crust which I will eat, too.

EGGS--I forgot them.

Feverish and shaking here. Can barely walk. Tomorrow, maybe I can relate the fall from a height and uti and maybe cardiologist visit.

We are under a burn ban, and the weird neighbors with barking dogs had a huge fire in the carport. They also have pile of junk all over the carport. I did call police. I have no idea of the outcome of that visit. The bit of rain, measured in 100 hundredths of an inch, did nothing to assuage the danger.

Are you finding good deals for Thanksgiving? We will only buy turkey breasts. So, I am ignoring turkey deals...maybe...lol.

Guarnier Color Me Happy Shampoo, $2.99

Dr Pepper diet, $4.99
Dasani 24pk $5.99

"s" indicates sale price.

I bought $102.25 worth and owed $2.25. She offered to take something off, but I elected to pay $2.25 since it was ten minutes past their 1 pm closing time on Thanksgiving Day.

I bought no meat because I had no room in my tiny freezer. It is full of meat and blueberries. The refrigerator has 3 turkey breasts thawing. Tommy's freezer is full, too. If I had my regular freezer, I would just buy all the amount in turkey breasts. Seriously, I would have.

Some explanations:

The reason I bought so much Jello is that if I bought six packages, I would get a free Christmas mold. I know--so silly. There were two different molds, so I had to buy 12 pkgs of Jello. I do not eat this much in a year, but I want to make Christmas Jigglers. Jigglers are Jello so stiff you make it shapes that can be picked up and eaten in hand.

I offered Tommy Dr. Pepper. He does lots for me, but will never buy boxes of soda for himself.

The Cayenne pepper is to sprinkle on things to keep animals away. My garbage is turned over right now!

I have never used pie filling to make an apple cake, but Tommy likes apple pie, and I am not peeling and slicing apples!

For a month or more, I have been wanting bologna since I love it so, but since it is not good for me, I have left it alone...until now. I may eat a couple of pieces and freeze the rest.

At Christmas there is always a little boy somewhere to buy a gift. The car and some candy should do the trick. It is easy to find things for little girls cheap or on clearance.

There is little fresh produce because I have kale and lettuce in the crisper now. Any new would spoil before I can use it.

I should have gotten more Ragu with mushrooms!

Dromedary is the only brand of pimientos that are from US and packed here. And, this is the only store in town that sells it. Now, I want Chicken a la King. Or turkey.

I "needed" the Hershey's Kisses!

Lysol cleaner, the brown liquid is my favorite floor cleaner. I was glad to get this free. I don't know another store in town that carries it. People tease me about the smell when I clean the bathroom floor. PineSol or a lemon scent makes me ill.

AHH! I need Miracle Whip! Right now! Else how can I eat a turkey sandwich?

This was a lot of needs met and wants fulfilled for $2.25.

Wednesday, And the Money Keeps Coming. . .

Fitz and Floyd Yuletide Holiday Collection Salad Plate, White

. . .out of hiding. I was cleaning receipts from my purse and came across two receipts that each had a $20 folded inside the receipt and cancelled check. This inattention to my money is the result of the 10 days or so that I was feeling so ill.

Later, I found a $5 bill in the car and a quarter in the washing machine and three dimes in my bed.

I was actually looking for three receipts to return things. Mission accomplished there.

Do you find misplaced money? Isn't that a beautiful salad plate? I love Fitz and Lloyd.  However, I don't have any. I saw these at Belk's. The picture does not do the plates justice.

CAN I SHOUT THIS?
I was awakened at the ungodly hour of 8:30 am this Wednesday morning by an employee of a store where I just put my receipt in a box to be drawn for $100 Gift Certificate. I WON! $100

Every day this week I have had money wins or finds. Today or Friday, I will get a haircut, a book at a used bookstore, and go buy 40 lbs of sweet potatoes and see if I can find a pair of shoes since I don't have any. I splurge so. lol! Okay, I wrote this in the middle of the night and awoke to the $100 win.
this morning. I got the haircut. I did not feel like going to get sweet potatoes from the farm. I really don't have enough money for shoes.

Then, the mail came. I get a "rebate" about every three months, usually $6 or about $12. Today, it was $42.45.  It seems I cannot lose. Then I had a fender bender type brush with a vehicle. I will tell you about that later.

So, today, Wednesday, I found my $45.55.  I won $100 worth of groceries. I have a $42.45 rebate.

So, how long can this streak last?

Long Day; Hard Days

When Tommy came Tuesday, I did not have enough sleep the night before. So, Wednesday was spent doing absolutely nothing. Still I was not rested. By the time Wednesday came around, I was still somewhat tired. I had a doctor visit and then shopped as many are wont to do after the first of the month.

At Publix, the a2milk that is usually $4.79 was 2 for $7. I bought 5 half gallons. One of those was chocolate. In my refrigerator are those five, two half gallons of regular milk for Tommy, one half gallon I bought the day before, and a half gallon of orange juice. So, that makes nine (9) half gallons stuffed in my small refrigerator. I got the ads to see what else was on sale and to find coupons for them.

Before the ad goes off next Wednesday, I will buy another two half gallons of the a2milk for coming weeks. It does not go on sale often enough for me to have the opportunity to keep buying it on sale. Oh, after buying this about 3 pm, I left it in the car until 9: 30. This is why I shop more often--because I cannot make many trips from the car to the house without great pain and exhaustion.

Of course, half the town was at Walmart. Besides buying groceries, people were wiping out the 50% off Halloween items. I bought a pair of pumpkin earrings for next year--$1.50. I forgot what else I bought at WM. Of course, not thinking about the milk still in the car, I did buy more perishables that had to come into the house at 9:30 last night.

When I was ready to leave WM, rain was so heavy that a foot from the ground was in a fog of bouncing rain. I had to spend another 45 minutes until it stopped or slowed down. ugh Just turning around to stay there made me tired thinking of even being there.

After I talked to the cardiologist, he said he needs to see me again Friday. I dread another trip. It makes me tired to think about it! Plus, I need to get bscb on sale and see if butter is cheap.

My back and shoulders are hurting and my arms are numb. I could barely get out of the car and out of the wheelchair! Someone had to open a water bottle for me. I cannot imagine the aftermath of a car wreck that leaves a person with grave bodily injury, plus all this pain. Once again, I had to pay someone to wash my hair at salon.

Nothing but complaints? Well, the sun is going to shine today! My one goal is to plant red onions, yellow onions, tulips, daffodils, and one other thing I forgot, maybe garlic. This will only take poking a hole in the pots of dirt with a stick and poking in a bulb and covering it with soil using a stick. The fresh soil poured in there in July is still very soft.

The iris I planted the other day have not been dug up by the little demons we call chipmunks. So, I have hope. As a matter of fact, the are greening up a little.

I have been up since 4 am, so I will need a nap. Getting a jump on Friday shoppers, I will go to the store by 8 am. There will be no editing today.

Are your days long and hard or just long or just hard?  What do you have planned for today?
