Interesting Old Clock

I finally got Tommy to get up, fight his way to this clock and read what was on the front. It is Seth Thomas with patent date 1876. Of course, that does not mean this clock is that old. I don't remember ever seeing a clock that told the date. The bottom face is day of month and day of week.

He also has a mantel clock that sits right in front of it since the reindeer needed room to be displayed. Neither work. I think I only show any interest when we need room for the Christmas display.

A clock identical to his, but in mahogany, sold for $250. The one above sold for $1,200.00.  Of course, I don't know the condition of either or the markets where they sold. Maybe I will pursue having these repaired, maybe not. There are other pursuits more important right now. But, I do know Tommy does not want to sell them. I don't blame him.

When I can have a more able-bodied person hand these to me, I can get other information from the back of the clock. In the meantime, I am grateful they don't chime.

Tommy is 71 and remembers these from his maternal grandmother's house when he was young.

Saturday, nothing happened. I only slept three hours on Friday night. Sunday, same thing. Nothing happened. We ate Christmas leftovers both days, so meals were delicious.

It's been mostly messy and gloomy here. We have no ambition or need to go anywhere. So, the gloom is okay.

Cleaner called but she only let the phone ring three times. I was in the midst of cleaning food off my chest! Then, I had to clean nightgown and face and hands and necklace. How can I be so messy??? I think that was my last bite, so by the time I cleaned all off me, I forgot to call her back.

Saturday night, there was tornado talk. We made sure flashlights were close at hand and the batteries were plugged into the lift chairs. Nothing happened here, just some rain. It was bad for some people with some deaths. A very familiar area, the Athens Courthouse was hit by a tornado, which took down a majestic tree. I have never been in the courthouse, just to festivals outdoors.

I will make sausage balls and black-eyed peas for NYE. We will probably have a salad. Maybe I will bake a pumpkin pie that was not made for Christmas. Maybe I will make a healthy dip and call all that dinner.

I would like to go and see fireworks at Thunder on the Mountain. I think that is the name. Fireworks are shot at the Vulcan statue. But, it will be dark.

I have an ot appt here on Monday, but I have no idea if she will show up.

What plans do you have for NYE?

Will you have black-eyed peas?

Best Laugh All Year

The year is drawing to a close. Of course, I am exhausted. So, Tommy is helping me as usual. I decided to make my favorite Jello concoction. I had Tommy bring me a cup of boiling water in a boil so I could dissolve a 3 oz package of no sugar Jello. When I finished, I had him put it in the refrigerator and leave the spoon on the counter.

Later, I wanted to put apples, banana, and a can of sugar-free fruit cocktail . He had left the hot Jello water on the counter. I asked him where he put the spoon. "I put the spoon in the refrigerator, just like you asked me." Well, No!" He insisted I did not tell him to refrigerate the Jello, just the spoon."

I laughed so hard, harder than I have all year, I do believe. I coughed and choked and kept trying to laugh through it all. I cannot imagine in what situation I would have someone refrigerate the Jello spoon and leave the boiling Jello on the counter. I asked him if he did not think that strange. He said he just did what I told him.

Can you see it--spoon in the refrigerator and hot Jello on the counter?

The Jello was a failure. How can Jello fail? The directions said to leave the Jello in the refrigerator about four hours. I decided that 30 minutes would be enough to make it thick enough to put in the fruit from previous experience. Well, it was done solid in 30 minutes. I had forgotten to add the cup of cold water, making the Jello very thick, almost hard. So, I chopped up the Jello and stirred in apples and fruit cocktail. I figured bananas would not fare well. Then, I stirred in 1/4 cup Cool Whip. It is not what I wanted, a failure, but it is okay.

At this point, we are listening to fireworks, eating leftovers, and waiting until later to eat the few goodies I made. Tommy ate almost the whole bag of chips I bought for the onion soup dip. He volunteered to go get more. Nope! Staying home and making do. I may or may not make the sausage balls.

So far, there are no fireworks in the sky. Sounds like firecrackers. Maybe at midnight.

Okay, now it is almost midnight. More fireworks. I need to collect my kiss.

How went your NYE?
