Sort of Busy Tuesday Grocery Shopping

Tommy casually mentioned that he watered the flowers while I took a nap. He said he decided to check his blood sugar first and he ate because he knew it would drop too low. He is using it correctly, not just waiting for the alarm to sound. I sort of talk to him about how to manage the monitor and diabetes in general. He would yell about me telling him to have a carb to raise his blood sugar and then when I told him to have protein and fiber, he would get upset again because he said I was contradicting what I said--eat carb to raise his blood sugar. I had explained before that carbs raised his blood sugar and protein would keep blood sugar from plunging. He gets the low blood sugar raised so he can remember to have the protein. whew!

We went to Cullman today. I finally managed to get another appointment to get my teeth cleaned. I called Monday morning, Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning, and finally on Tuesday afternoon found an appointment for the cleaning. The idea was to eat before the 1 pm appointment, and I was getting woozy. We sat in BK line, got Whopper Jr and had ten minutes to get to appointment. I was going to floss in waiting room and run a toothbrush around teeth. Maybe do it in bathroom. But, no sooner than I sat down, she called me back. I was embarrassed and apologized for gunky teeth.

She gave me two toothbrushes. I think I have had this toothbrush before and it is spiky like a needle and hurts my gums. I said so, and she assures me this one is soft, that everyone loves this model. No, it is spiky and hurts. So, Tommy has two new toothbrushes. I was complaining about my dull teeth, not really yellow but, not white. It is from inside of my teeth. She said that Sensodyne new formula would brighten. So, I have two tubes of that to try. My teeth are not sensitive, but I can try it.

I have had one tooth with plaque so bad I was annoyed by the roughness on my tongue. After she finished cleaning my teeth, I complained that I could still feel plaque and put my tongue on the place. Well, it appears I have a little sliver of tooth broken off an incisor. That is annoying. She said I did not have much plaque at all for it having been two years since last cleaning.

If anyone thinks I should get a dentist here, I will not because I have gone to this dentist for over 30 years. I am terrified of going to the dentist. I know him. He has not made me hurt ever. The fear of a new dentist would throw me right back to being traumatized at the dentist office. This is a deep-seated, and 65-year-old fear. Even with familiarity with him, I am still really nervous.

We left without going anywhere else that I really needed to go. We got my mail and headed home. I took a nap and we went to Publix.

I used only bogo or some other deal and coupons from Publix.

*2000 IU, D3 $8.59 3 bottles, used on $4 coupon on 3 bottles making it 3 x$4.59.

Specia K $6.71, I thought this was bogo!

Saving Summary from receipt.                                                                                                                       Store Coupon $14.00                                                                                                                                     Special Price Savings $22.45

Savings at Publix $36.45

It seems like I bought more, but this was the whole receipt. I also had a $2 digital coupon that came off the receipt. I got it for buying $10 worth of groceries. Total receipt--$54.

The sweet mixes will last for months. I put fresh blueberries in these along with the little hard chips included in the mix. They are so much better with an overflow of fresh blueberries.

I was looking for Wheat Thins Lightly Salted, but found the basil tomato version had less sodium, too. I will not just eat these for the fun of eating them. These will be reserved for time I just want a couple of crackers with cheese.

I have enough Vitamin D3 to last me a year and still be in date.

Even though the salad is bogo, I get one and before the ad goes off, I get another. That way, the salad is very fresh, as fresh as bagged salad can be.

Dinner--two hotdogs and enormous helping of slaw. Tommy--two chicken legs, larger helping of slaw than I had. And, I had a lot.

Tommy washed a load of clothes before we went to Publix, so I have to hang those.

Tomorrow's post is just two questions on two different subjects. I am tired of typing today.

Anyone else terrified of going to dentist? What happened to cause you such fear?

Do you use a toothpaste to whiten teeth?

Refunds, Tree Limb, Olive Oil

For at least 24 hours, I had not eaten correctly. It seemed everything bad for me was all I wanted. I was sluggish, sleepy, and not motivated to do much. I don't know why I felt so compelled to eat bad stuff. But, that phase is over.

I did not feel like typing anything on my blog. I did read and comment on others' blogs. Of course, I did put things in new posts to share.

Sunday night, I went to bed at 10:30 and woke at 2:30. Well, that was it for sleep until noon on Monday. Then, I was up at 3 pm. Still, I got little sleep and just as little food. Around 10 am, I had less than 8 ounces of milk.

I am back on track. At 4 pm, I had a huge salad with Romaine, tomato, cheese, chopped chicken and dressing. I used half olive oil and half Italian dressing and marinated the chopped chicken in it while I grated a bit of cheese, and diced tomato. I was stuffed when I finished. About two hours later, I had a banana.

Funny Tommy story--one day I was going to make a small batch of brownies. I asked him to bring me olive oil. He brought vegetable oil, saying he knew I meant that instead of olive oil. Well, no. He was distraught that I was going to put olive oil in brownies, saying he would not eat them. Of course, I knew the bottle open was not aromatic. He tried the brownies and has never doubted me using olive oil for anything since. I do realize he knows nothing about olive oil and had never used it for anything before. It was funny.

I had an appointment to have teeth cleaned in Cullman today. My heart was beating funny, and I was exhausted from no sleep, plus I felt like I was going to throw up. So, I cancelled and rescheduled. I do brush twice a day and floss at least a dozen times. So, maybe my oral health has not disintegrated to the point I need extra measures to keep my teeth. I do not cancel lightly, so these were extreme circumstance to cause me to cancel.

You would be proud of me as I am making a concerted effort to keep this decluttered table clear of stuff. Tommy has paid attention to it and helped clear things away that I put down. And, I am slowly clearing off the table on the other side of me. Tommy's table and bookcase are worse than mine. I will tell him she can clear his flat surfaces, too. That will put ambition into him. Really, once a surface is decluttered, the surface needs to be dusted/cleaned. He sees no sense to this...lol.

In the decluttering this last week, stuff in living room, I gave away one book. I bought it new but on sale. It was awful. I did give that to cleaner along with a child's t-shirt, and something else. I must do better.

Today, I got refunds on two items. The first was a2milk Real Dairy Protein+Collagen from a2milk.  It mixes in nasty. Lumps remain on the top even though the milk tasted like chocolate. I have been trying for several months to use it. Somehow, the milk I put it in just gets foam or something thick on top. It is hard to believe this can be good or good for me. The cs I talked with was amazed and kept making sure I did not put in too much powder. I will get a coupon that will buy another 1/2 gallon of milk.

Then, I called about Chips Ahoy that were scorched and the chocolate chips were actually burned tasting. They were nasty, but of course, I ate them, albeit slowly. I have not had any in four months or more, trying to break that habit. They are sending me two coupons to replace the two packages.

Today, I received in the mail four coupons for Miracle Whip for the two I bought. One was orange MW and the other is not tasting right. These have an expiration on the coupons for next year at this time.

I had to call because points were not put on my account at a business. All I wanted was my points, but they added another $7 that was on my account for the next purchase.

Today was profitable--4 jars of Miracle Whip, 2 packages of Chips Ahoy, $5 coupon from a2milk, and $7 in points. That is a $42 value altogether.

Right now, he has decided to inventory meat thawed and decide what to do. Well, he let one spoil! No, I cannot get that stuff off the bottom shelf. I will cook a pork loin tonight, to eat or store for other meals in freezer. I will cut it in portions for one and freeze. Also, he will brown and chop 3 lbs. ground beef for freezing. I thought the meat tasted like vinegar, so Tommy can eat it since he liked it. Chicken breast suits me.

Do you ever face a stack of books or anything, fully committed to decluttering and just want it all the stay with you? I do have other books to sort, so all is not lost.

The tree limb will cost $1350 to remove and carry off. Now, to get two more estimates.

Do you call and tell manufacturers when a product does not meet expectations?

My friend turned 93 last week. I forgot her birthday! For tomorrow, I have a tragic tale from her.

Dental Stuff and Bread

Today, I had my teeth cleaned for $4 with dental insurance. I should have had the x-rays that are due and are $1. But, I have an appt for those this month.

The hygienist gave me mint floss--yuck, a Gum toothbrush, toothpaste that has a whitener in it. I won't use that. I will give away floss and toothpaste, maybe at the Free Food Pantry. I think it has been almost a year since I had my teeth cleaned because I was so ill in the winter and early spring. Still, she said my teeth had very little plaque. Great!

Since I am brushing my teeth away, the dentist told me to use a Gum toothbrush, Soft. It still feels hard to me. He had to put filling on one of my teeth, saying I can brush it hard because I cannot ruind the filling like I am doing to my tooth.  I had nothing to numb the tooth. He just put the filling on and smoothed it out. It did hurt just a bit when he drilled but not enough to get a shot. I hate those.

Now, my teeth are all shiny and feel smooth to my tongue. It is such a great feeling, a feeling of well-being. Their little fur coats are gone.

The dentist and I talked a bit about fluoride. I had a cavity that he was going to watch. It was a thin black line on the surface of a molar. Today, he said fluoride had caused the tooth to re-mineralize and seal the place that was once trying to make a cavity.  I thought in previous conversations that teeth cannot heal like that.

He is worried what taking fluoride out of water is doing to one county. It seems he sees few children with cavities now because of fluoride. Everyone is worrying about the children in this other county. It is a poor county so dental care will not be forthcoming.

Since my dentist office is near the Bread Store, I stopped to buy bread, $.89 for a loaf of bread with a best buy date of July 18.

From now until July 31, the bread store will give a loaf of bread for a school supply brought to the store. I called exbf and told him not to buy bread, that when he is here, we can get him a loaf of bread for one of the school supplies I have bought in years past. Good deal since I can get at least two more loaves this month and so can he. I have packages of notebook paper that I paid a dime to buy.

Since I have a library fine, I am hoping I can bring food or school supplies to wipe it out. That will be cheaper than the fine.

Until school starts, I will keep school supplies in the car since lots of places accept school supplies or canned goods for services.

Your turn
Do you love to get your teeth cleaned? Don't worry about flossing, just floss the ones you want to keep.  Are there any places in your town that collect school supplies or canned goods for services you receive?
