Monday, Monday Was Not Good To Me

Today was a horrible day! I went out at noon with no sleep and no food. I clutched a list of what I wanted to buy and where we needed to go. I had had no milk for several days. I could drink some of Tommy's milk but the ensuing pain and misery would be too much to even chance it. I mainly wanted fruit, milk, and flowers. Did I say I was miserable? We had a Whopper, Jr. for lunch. Being 2 for $5 helped us to decide on that for lunch.

I went to Lowe's for flowers. We found a cart in the parking lot. Well, that involved sitting in the sun on a beeping cart. Everyone tried to make it go. Nope, not going. It seems that carts have a new technology. Well, they have beeped for a long time when you get to far from the store. Maybe it was not Lowe's. He brought me a new cart. This one refused to work even when the cart guy dragged the cart and me inside the perimeter of the store where it would work. The guy was all over me when he was pushing!

Once I got into the store, the cart I had would only run about five feet once it was turned off and allowed to sit. I thought I would die of sunstroke in the heat and sun, so not feeling well enough to continue looking, stopping and going five feet. There were five carts, and none would run. A guy had to push me out the door.

Next store, cart would not run, either. No carts. I tried to shop for flowers, but Tommy had done a return for me, so I spent too long and was ready to cry. I could not even get to the car.

We went to Publix. Thankfully, everything went off like a charm. Tommy got bananas and found good Red Delicious apples while I got 3 half-gallons of a2milk, gallon of 2% for Tommy, bread and feta cheese, and educated the employee who got the milk from the case for me. He asked and said he was taking it home tonight to try. I have been wanting Mediterranean Pasta for a long time! So, I shopped for the ingredients. He was very much interested in the benefits of a2milk. I did forget two ingredients but wasn't going to cook Mediterranean Pasta for a few days. Tommy hates almost everything in this dish, but I will make it up to him.

Since Tommy was using walker, and I was riding, he got the easy side of the store. As usual, he used the self-checkout. He is so fast and efficient. As we were leaving the store, I snagged a carrot cake bar and paid for it at customer service sine I could not bare to go farther into the store.

When we got home, I sat here for two hours and went to bed and could not sleep longer than two hours. Grrr!

Several months ago, I went into Lowe's, and the cart that ran suddenly stopped. An employee brought me another, dragging it! Well, it did not work either. So, two carts are sitting in the middle of the store. The third cart worked. The employee said he would move the carts. Of course, he pulled them both a few feet to one side. I drove off while three employees discussed what they were going to do as they strolled away.

Today, I received the two Welch coupons, good until last day of the year. It is almost 10 pm. I have had four hours sleep in last 30 hours. And, I have no flowers. NO FLOWERS!

I bought a pretty blouse that does not fit.

Tommy got his own dinner. I have been awake for over two hours and have only had a glass of milk.

Two of the flowers that I overwintered in the sunless utility room have a flower each. Then, I saw another. Tommy found an onion that was about a foot tall last fall and put it into a pot of dirt, So, it is blooming, too. The other two flowers are strange because one flower was 1.5 inches across. This year, the flower from that pot are a quarter inch across.

There are other places with flowers, more expensive but more accessible. Not only did I want two for me, I wanted one or two for my 93 y/o friend for her birthday. Besides, the calibrachoa were not huge bunches of flowers in hanging baskets, just half gallon pots.

On my way to a late nap today, I received a phone call. I saw it was my gastroenterologist, so answered, wondering what he wanted. Well, it was a woman who was very unprofessional, telling me something about death insurance for burial. She asked me my age right off the bat. I said, in a shocked voice, "So Dr %%%% is selling insurance now?" I knew better. She hung up so fast. His number showed on my phone when it rang, but on call list, it is a number from Ohio showing a bunch of names from overseas. I googled it for the names. Have you encountered this scam?

When I answered this call, I was exhausted. My voice sounded feeble and old and I needed to clear my throat. I had been sneezing. I supposed I sounded like I could be scammed. The one question and the change in my voice were probably the reason she ended to call so quickly.

Monday was a full, tiring, weird day. I can only say that I survived this Monday.

If you use an electric scooter from stores as you shop, have you noticed a great lack of charged carts in some stores?

Have you noticed a lack of huge hanging baskets of Calibrachoas or petunias?

A woman in Lowe's, an employee in garden center told me Knockout Roses are no better than any others. Is this true?

Exasperated

Okay, tonight, I cannot get rid of this picture above. But, you can see what ribbon candy mix looks like. the stripes are ribbon candy.

After Tommy brushed my body last night, I yawned for hours. Then, when I went to sleep at four am, I slept soundly until 1:30 pm. I was shocked because my feet were almost back down to normal size. Then, a few hours later, only then did my feet swell much at all. So, brushing is a part of his life whether he likes it or not.

This brushing calls for a natural hair brush moved lightly over the body, all in the direction of the heart.=. I avoid brushes on my body and any animal hair on bare skin. So, I used a soft brush I use for washing my feet. I wrapped a softer washcloth around that and securing it with a hair claw. I had to keep telling him 'not so hard.' He got it done. Boy, that puts me in mood to sleep. I have known about this for years, but he always said no.

Plus, I forgot to take diuretic, and my feet still did not swell. Maybe brushing could take the place of a pill. I will discuss this with my doctor. Or, maybe I will experiment on myself. lol

The rest of the day was wasted because of his vile temper.

Yesterday, I put out a new candy box, a crystal Christmas ornament. Inside I put colored balls for the tree. It looks festive and will not tempt me to eat it.

At Christmas, I always put ribbon candy into a covered candy dish. I hate the stuff, but it is pretty and Christmas festive. It is always given away sometime in the spring. One year, a young guy was helping me move something. I offered him all of that candy he wanted. He was polite and would only take two pieces. The dish was six inches across and candy was three inches deep. Finally, I said, "Wait." I took a quart storage bag, dumped the candy as well as I could because it had stuck together. He was shaking with happiness as he stuffed it into a pocket with much work. It was June, time to get rid of all of it.

I am telling you, I won't eat that stuff as it is too sweet. If I wanted to gain weight, I would eat chocolate. There were days I was desperate for a sweet, but I never touched it. The ribbon candy always had round pieces that were pure sugar, too.

Tonight, I was desperate for an apple. I depend on fiber and apple fiber works best. I had not had an apple on Sunday. We went after dark to Publix. Someone brought me a cart. It stopped at the seam of the ramp to Publix. It stopped when the front wheel touched the threshold. It stopped when the back wheel touched the threshold! Inside the store, it never went over 6 feet while I moved about. Often, it only moved six inches or less and stopped with a lurch to my neck.

Finally, it stopped as I was turning from a main aisle to the aisle across the front of the store, and would not go again. I was blocking people who wanted to go across the front of the store and down the one aisle. There was quite a bottleneck. I was so disgusted! I finally got the attention of an employee who was going to try and make it go. NO! It was on and charged. I asked fobnanar another cart. That cart was set where my knees hit the basket. So, I had him get another.

I watched as the Public employee took the cart back where it belonged. It did not stop once!!! grrr

Bananas, apples and bread is all I needed. But, it took me almost an hour to collect what I wanted. I did find the Ziploc pint freezer bags that were bogo. My raincheck had almost expired, only 4 days left. Bread was bogo, at least. The use by date is December 21. I wonder how much preservative it contains.

I rehurt my knee trying to get into the electric cart. It was recovering from the fall. The cart was so tight, my left knee would not go in. I had gotten into the cart with right foot first. When I tried to get out, the knee would not slide out as usual. I had to try to raise myself enough to get past a center part that supported the cart. I hope I never, ever get that cart again.

About two weeks ago, I used Elmer's school glue. Saturday, I found it. I had not missed it, yet. It was open in the chair I sit in and had oozed out an area about six inches in diameter. So, Tommy washed it for me tonight.  If I did not keep this chair covered with a quilt, it would be nasty, sticky, disgusting.

No decorating done today.

In a bit, I will get brushed again. I am looking forward to improving my health and sleeping.

Do you ever use brushing skin to achieve better health?

If you ride electric carts in the store, are you sometimes exasperated by their eccentricities?

Tommy had never heard of ribbon candy. Do you like it?

The Incident

On Tuesday night I went to the store and bought three things. As I was coming to the front of the store and turning in front of the endcap, I heard things falling. Thinking I was the cause of this, I steered further out to stop hitting whatever. However, things escalated and bottles fell right on top of my head and shoulders. I could hear glass breaking. I gunned the electric cart to escape.

Remember, this is an electric grocery cart, the slowest in town. It goes maybe 1 mph. So, gunning it was not a great thing. It just goes less slowly.

People were yelling in alarm and moving about and I could not escape whatever was happening to me. I actually thought the others were in distress, too. Finally, a guy loudly told me to STOP because I was hooked to the rack!  What rack? Since I could feel glass shards in my thin coat and on my skin, I got off that cart faster than I ever have. I was so upset.

So, picture this. At this store all the electric carts have arms that can be raised or lowered into place to allow entrance and egress, access to the cart. When I get into the cart, I have had employees lower the arms. When I object, I am told they will keep me from falling out. Okay, imagine my reaction.

Tuesday night, I got into one of those carts with the handle/arm down. However, it appears someone did not raise the arm because the arm was pushed outward about ten inches to the side. This allowed the arm to hook into the metal rack that had at least four dozen bottles on it. The combination of a rack in the floor right at the corner and an arm in the wrong position caused the catastrophe. I DID have the cart far from the rack as I rounded the corner.

At least a half dozen employees and the manager rushed in to clean it all up and leave an empty rack. In the meantime, I was shaking from the fright of bottles crashing down on me. I removed one shard from my arm above my wrist and shook my coat. At home I found more sand-size glass in my arm and coat.

Whew!

As I left, I signed my receipts from that night and stuffed them into a box for a drawing for the $100 certificate. (I made one purchase and went back for another item before I left the store.) This was about 9 pm. At 8:30 the next morning, Wednesday,  I received a call from the store. I was confused, thinking I was in trouble. No, I won the $100 gift certificate.

Thinking about it later, I am surprised they did not just draw another name since they know who I am.

It took several hours before I calmed down after the terror of trying to escape falling bottles and causing more to hit the top of my head!!!

(By the way, I tell this better than I write it. People are  in stitches when I tell this.)
