Tuesday was the free lunch. There is a couple with whom we always sit. So, it was a pleasant interlude. Lunch was baked spaghetti, bread, cole slaw and a piece of cake or pie and conversation.
Afterward, we took a ride around the lake and observed things that are new. It seems they are always doing something to improve the grounds around the lake. Plus, this is a very pleasant area to be.
In times past I have taken a lunch and have eaten at a picnic table or if it is too cold or too hot, in the car. Actually, for the past few years, I am too chicken to eat at the table as the geese are very aggressive, wanting food and not holding back to get it. Rude!
For his dinner, I boiled potatoes then put them on a pan with raw onion chunks and Johnsonville Maple Breakfast sausages. After I baked this, I turned on the broiler. He did not want slaw, so that was it. He declared it was delicious. He took home enough of this for three more meals plus the to-go box from church with spaghetti, bread, his slaw and mine.
The poor guy does not have to worry about dinner for four days! Surprisingly, he exclaimed how delicious the onions were. I didn't taste them.
The next day, he said he found in the freezer carrots I baked, so that was added to the potatoes, onions and sausages.
Thursday night was the monthly dinner. We had lasagna, salad with dressing, bread, unsweetened tea, a little pie and ice cream. I did not eat the bread or salad croutons, had seconds of lasagna, brought the little, individual pie home and another to freeze for Tommy.
If you live in this area or Illinois, did you hear about the guy whose car in Cullman was stolen by a trustee prisoner. Well, my friend was the owner of the car. He was telling me all about it when we met in Publix. The guy drove the car to Illinois, I think. It was wrecked and had the radio torn out. Thankfully, my friend owns a truck so he was not stuck with no car. Or, was it St Louis?
He said he will never, ever leave his car unlocked again! I lock my car in the driveaway and anywhere since about 1984. Of course, he left his key in the ignition. I groaned when I heard this. So, he said he would never leave the key in the ignition.
I lay in bed for three days, desperately ill. Finally, last Sunday I felt better and even better on Monday. I have no idea what was wrong as I had no fever and nothing hurt. Do you even feel so rotten, barely able to move, sleep lots and eventually recover without meds?
Do you leave the key in the car? Do you lock your car all the time?

Headed for a Spaghetti Coma
Tonight was the free dinner--spaghetti, Parmesan cheese, salad, dressing, garlic bread, unsweetened tea. I got seconds on spaghetti, cheese, and bread. I turned down cookies, ice cream, and chocolate syrup. Well, I did eat one bite of ice cream and took one cookie with me.
The meth addicts with whom I speak are funny, polite, and determined to do better for the future.
The people running the programs are good company and interesting.
I got an invitation to a Cowboy Church. Yeehaw!
Now, I am home and watching Young Sheldon. Maybe I can fight off this coma for ten more minutes.
Tomorrow, I may go chicken shopping....much fun. I went to Aldi's. More later.
I don't think I have ever had spaghetti I did not like if I had enough Kraft Parmesan Cheese in the green shaker bottle. How about you? Are you a fan of spaghetti?

Tuesday Exhaustion--Free meals Twice
It was all fun! This was the church with real plates and utensils. Red, white and blue decorated the tables. They used flag napkins, opened, as a base for the other decorations. It was all very festive.
Free Tuesday lunch and late patriotic program. We were told to wear our patriotic clothes. Exbf wore a red 4th of July t-shirt and a flag blue hat with sequins and lights with four modes. I wore white t-shirt and flag vest-like top. It is a rectangle, blue field and stars on top half and red and white stripes on the bottom of the vest, red bracelet and nail polish. I could not find the nail paint to make fireworks. I am glad I only spent $1 on it. The vest was NOT a flag! He highly disapproved of my vest, saying I was wearing a flag. Oh poo!
Lunch:
pork on a bun
small container of BBQ sauce
potato salad
baked beans
slaw
homemade ice cream
As soon as his food was on the table, he passed off his potato salad bowl to me. He absolutely hates cold potatoes and peels on even hot potatoes. I scraped my baked beans onto his place. They serve the slaw and potato salad in little bowls. I suppose they dish those up and keep in the refrigerator until lunch.
I had more meat instead of ice cream. However, I ate about 1/4 cup of peach ice cream, maybe less.
He threw a very visible hissy fit. Something was wrong with his ice cream, so he just slammed the cup onto the table behind his plate with ice cream flying out the top and all over everything. He is very lucky it did not get on me. Then, he whined about his ice cream melting. If he had not complained so long about everything else wrong with his ice cream, it would not have a Tbsp of melted ice cream on top. So, he made a big deal of pouring off ice cream while he made a mean face at me. Total embarrassment.
Then, we went to bank so I could get money to take to a business and paid them. This is the place that took over 3 weeks to deposit a check. Then, when they straightened out their banking, I gave them a check that they deposited and it was sent to my bank. However, somehow it was lost for over two weeks. Neither bank could find it. So, I pay cash. The trouble is worth the peace of mind. Along the way we looked over all the businesses still repairing hail damage.
We went to the lake and drove around. A family was feeding the ducks and every duck on the lake converged. A little boy about two was running about amongst the ducks. The drake was nipping a boy about ten. But, this little two-year-old was never touched. The ducks came right to his face, and they never touched him. If my face were that low, a drake would have plucked my eyes out!
At home I PEELED about two pounds of potatoes for the crock pot that had cooked chicken yesterday. Those went into a plastic bag for him to take home. I made slaw in a gallon bag. I just dumped everything in the bag, stirred it twice with a fork, and then sealed the bag and massaged it to perfection. I didn't have to wash a bowl. He does not have to wash a bowl. WIN!
If I ever need to take slaw anywhere, I will make it in a bag. it would be easier to keep cold and would only need a bowl at the destination. Most places, I would take my own bowl.
THEN, we dressed like a cow and went to Chick-fil-A for free food. It is so much fun. Whole families come to this. I have very good pictures if I can figure out how to get them out of phone and onto blog.
He took home a huge chicken breast, cherries, potatoes, slaw. If he eats 1/4 chicken breast each meal, he will have potatoes and slaw for those four days and more potatoes and slaw for other meals. Who knows what he eats when he gets it home...lol. There are enough cherries for four days, also.
I hope these two occasions never happen on the same day again. Too much fun is exhausting.
Your turn
Have you been attacked by ducks/geese wanting food NOW? Does a little melted ice cream cause you not to eat your ice cream at all or to complain loudly? Did anyone get a free Chic-fil-A? What is your opinion of "wearing a flag"?

Rough Weather and Food
We had some bad storms today in AL. During all this, 156K in Alabama are without electricity. I hear trees are down all over roads and houses in Birmingham. Something was said about Birmingham being city with second largest number of trees in the US.
In my city, torrents of rain were the problem. I was indoors in a lobby of a one-story building with offices. The rain did not start gradually, but the bottom dropped out and the rain was at its maximum from the first moment. The wind blew the rain sideways, part of the time, but no trees that I know of were down.
I overate cookies Heath Bar cookies this afternoon, so I will not be eating bread today. Have you ever had these cookies?
This evening, I went to the free dinner. We had pizza, salad, loaded potatoes, unsweetened tea, salad dressing, and individual pies and cakes like Walmart carries. By the time I ate a bit of one pizza, the loaded baked potato, and salad, I did not want to eat the other 3 pieces. However, I did want the loaded potato, so I had more. I definitely over ate from 2:30 to 6:30.
The loaded baked potato was a casserole. I paid attention while eating to figure out what was in the casserole. This is what I think they did. The potatoes were baked, sliced in half and flattened into a huge casserole. Sour cream and butter were mixed together or put on as they were on the potatoes. So much cheese was put on the top and bits of ham or bacon were sprinkled over that. The casserole was covered and baked. Servings were carved out in squares.
Oh, there were what seemed to be French fries, uncooked, over the top of the baked potatoes. One person said she thought it was potato sticks, the little crispy things. No idea.
Well, that is how I think it was made. Maybe the potatoes were not baked first. I don't know.
The casseroles were catered. The pizza was in boxes from a pizza place, The salad greens were from bags. I did not eat croutons on my salad, but they were purchased, too, I think.
The meal was exceptionally delicious, especially the stuffed baked potato casserole.
I brought home a little peach pie. Pizza is in freezer. So is the peach pie.
Oh, the heat index was 115 here today because of 94 F and 81 % humidity. It was hot!
Have you ever eaten loaded baked potato casserole or made it? What did storms do in your town today?

Thursday Dinner and Addiction
Thursday night was the day of the free dinner: ham, slaw, green beans, roll, key lime pie, unsweetened tea. It is a good thing I love green beans and slaw. This was the third time this week.
This venue serves its purpose for me. I met a man who knew a friend from church and his wife and kids. When he mentioned where he worked and had retired from, I asked him if he knew this man I knew. His mouth fell open in surprise. He laughed and said he knew him well. He had to know how I knew him. We both shared the same opinion of the guy and of his wife. I go there for the conversation.
Every time I go to this dinner, I have a conversation, short or long with an addict--alcohol, meth, different addictions. The closest thing I have ever had to an addiction was caffeine in Coke. I don't think I have an addictive personality. Since I met Hershey's gold, I may have developed an addiction.
I am still checking with people (not in public, just here) to see where in relation to their navel, or belly button, if you like, their waist lies. When I talked to exbf today, I asked about his. His immediate response was "below" his waist. I am quite sure he checked after all the discussion with the guy on the phone Tuesday, a conversation he could hear through speakerphone!
There are serious burns on my chest and abdomen, five in all. Sometimes these sores from tape cause open sores eventually. I may go to the doctor for those. sigh
I am out of bread but will resist buying any since I may be addicted to bread...lol. I gave exbf about 3/4 of a loaf. It was cheap, nasty white bread, his favorite kind.
Tonight, I bought a family pack of boneless, skinless chicken breasts. I have really missed chicken breasts. I pull off a piece of chicken for a snack. Since my snack is supposed to be protein, this works great.
Last Monday, I mailed gifts to g-daughters. I hope I got daughter's address correct.
Okay, same question as yesterday's post--is your navel below or above or at your waist? Do you ever have the opportunity regularly to talk to a recovering addict? If so, do you learn something new each time about the human condition? Or, anything?

Baby Bananas or Bananitos and Free Thursday Dinner
Written last Thursday night. I did get worse and published that on Sunday.
For years, it seems, I have seen baby bananas and thought nothing except that they were cute, a novelty. Finally, one day last week I became consumed with finding out about them. One produce employee assured me they were edible when green as grass because they never turn yellow. Well, I doubted that, and I was correct.
For my first experiment, I bought one tiny banana about three inches long and paid ten-cents, including tax. Two days later, I bought one that did not look so battered and paid twelve-cents, including tax, for this one. Then, I waited and waited.
Finally, the first one ripened some. So, I decided to eat it. The description says baby bananas are thing-skinned. I had to use a thumb nail to peel the skin from the flesh. Next time, I will use a dinner knife or the bowl of a spoon. Yes, the skin is very thin. The baby bananas don't really look like a banana inside even though the flesh is pale yellow.
The taste is banana-y, but not so delicious. The mouth feel is the worst part. I cannot say they are slimy, but they are incredibly smooth, smoother than large bananas.
I still have the last one I bought. This one will be allowed to become very yellow to see if that will improve the taste and texture. Oh, these are $3.99/lb. The cost will assure I never buy these again.
Thursday night, I went to the free dinner: spaghetti, roll, salad of greens and dressing and a piece of chocolate bundt cake. There was little meat but the taste was superb. The "meat" may have been soy. I hope not. I really appreciated not having to cook dinner.
A group from south Alabama had a skit for us or a group of skits. It was all interesting and not too preachy. I laughed lots and shushed two women talking within six inches of my back as they leaned toward each other. I was not subtle the last time I shushed them loudly. They immediately started talking again. So, I turned to look right in the face of one woman. That woman said, "Well, we are still going to talk." And, they did! Amazingly, there were people all over the back of the dining room talking, not even whispering.
A woman (39) sat down and asked me if she could share her addiction story. She did. It was tragic (involving the accidental death of her only son), but hopefully she will have a good outcome. I gave her the bunny for her youngest daughter. Remember the bunny I was given in WM?
In telling her story, she said Bradford, a business for treating drug addicts, a residential program, allowed her to go there for free!
She wants to get her GED. I told her that once she got her GED that Wallace Community College would allow her to take one class tuition-free. She was happy about that. I then told her she could get a grant to pay for her tuition and not have to pay that back. She seemed truly happy about the news.
She may not use the information immediately, but I planted the seed. She might even pass that information along to others living in the women's facility for drug addicts.
I did little today, but it was more than I can usually accomplish. I cannot stay outside long because of the allergens in the air. I have an earache and a fever. (Thursday) It is enough that I am pleased with myself.
This week. I ate the other banana when it was more ripe. Yuck is all I have to say. It is sweet and creamy like the internet says, just not for me. Little kids would love it. I still feel ill and am not wanting to type much. I will spend my energy watching for tornadoes.
Your turn
Have you ever eaten baby bananas? Can you give me a clue about how yellow they need to be? What is your opinion of baby bananas taste or texture?

Free Dinner and Wednesday/Thursday Drama
I will start off with another free meal--Thursday dinner. The choices were chicken tortilla soup and beef/vegetable soup. Of course, I chose chicken and accidentally ate a few green chilies. The salad was great, just greens, tomatoes, cheese, and dressing. Plus, I had lemon pie and unsweetened tea. My gastro-intestinal system did not forgive me for the green chilies.
forgot to add--there were other items to put in the salad that I did not choose, like cucumbers, onions, croutons, and other things I don't eat. There were also crackers, cornbread, and some sort of rolls.
There was a flyer at each place listing some of the Thanksgiving dinners in town, including the ones that are on a different day because of Thanksgiving Day. I need to put that in my day book, keeping the flyer there and noting it on appropriate days. These are not just the ones for poor people. I don't know where they are, but won't go.
This has been the most beautiful day. It's fall at its best. We will have rain on Saturday, but in the meantime, this has been glorious weather.
On Tuesday, exbf remarked about all the trees still being green. We saw two trees as we drove in some of the areas and neighborhoods full of trees. We saw one tree turning yellow and another started to lose its green. This has been the greenest Fall I can remember.
Trees in my yard--three oaks, cherry, and wild cherry, and a hickory, plus all the smaller trees are still green and have only lost a few leaves. It looks like summer out the picture window and as I look around the neighborhood. By Thanksgiving most of the leaves should have fallen. But, for now....
Your turn
Are the leaves late in turning this year? Late in falling? Are you having a glorious fall with sunshine and clear skies?
Drama below that you may skip.
This will be the condensed version of the drama. Wednesday, J came over and asked if she could talk. We did. Her bf had taken her phone from her again.
She had confessed to him that another guy whom she thinks is a saint found out where she worked and ate there with another woman. She went to his table and talked to him. So, for the last month she has wanted this man who was nice to her. She said it made her feel better to get it off her chest, her failure--the fact she saw him in that setting.
So her bf was screaming at her, calling her names, poking her hard in her chest, making her stagger backwards. He took her phone. He punished her for telling him how she was not over this guy with whom she had already cheated.
I told her that confessing infidelities only made the confessor feel better, and the person betrayed hurt. She said it was the right thing to do...and started talking Bible gibberish.
She said her daddy had gotten her a phone. I was so angry I volunteered to go get it, 70 miles from here if someone paid me for gas eventually. Forty or more times on the way and again that many coming back, she would sway around, frazzle her hair and say, "Oh, Linda, I am freaking out!" I just told her sharply to stop it, which she did. I don't think saying, "I am freaking out" means a person is freaking out. I was being played.
Then she got all weirdly religious. Every time I said a word found in the Bible, she would repeat the word along with a phrase in the Bible, and say, "See, (whatever) is in the Bible. I finally yelled at her and told her to shut up with the religion stuff unless it had something to do with anything. She said, "But, it is in the Bible!" I could barely form a sentence without her interrupting.
She said she knew how to get to daddy's house. NO, she did not. She used my phone to call him and he said to me over and over, "Just get on Bessemer highway and get on Academy drive." Even when I told him that meant nothing to me, he just kept repeating it. So, I hung up. She had no idea either.
You have to understand, I am afraid of the woods and getting lost. This was someplace called Adger, woods! She kept saying things, all untrue, about where we were. I was furious to hear her say over and over that she knew how to get there, just go here or there. That, alternating with her other crazy stuff was making me so angry, frustrated, and afraid.
Finally, I quit listening to her and made all right turns, four times! Accidentally, I arrived on the correct road. Then, she kept saying to look for a certain church because he lived across the road from that. we arrived and she started bellowing for her Daddy. I refused to allow her out of the car. These people are all drug addicts, supposedly recovered, alcoholics and had all been in prison. I figured she would act out and not leave. I was not afraid for my life. Oh, forgot to say, I found her walking on the streets in our neighborhood right after she took three Benadryl.
I held her coat and would not allow her out of the car. Her daddy hugged her and screamed she was hyperventilating. No, she was not. Her brother came to my side of the car and gave me the phone. I asked for directions out of there, and he had no idea. He told me to call his girlfriend and ask her. She left her house and went to her friend's house to go to another friend's house to get her to give me directions. That person started reading quickly as though from Google maps directions--go 2.3 miles SE to blank road, turn N and go ....you get the idea.
I told her I could not remember all that, and I was driving. She said she had sent me a text with it all on it. I had a flip phone! I hung up because I was driving on dark, unfamiliar roads with barely a center line and drop-offs that were deep, no shoulders in some places.
Then, people started calling and demanding to know where she was, what was going on, and garbage talk. So, I turned off my phone.
I finally saw a police car and the woman gave me the correct directions--one more turn. It was not the convoluted directions of the person on phone.
Once I got back on 59 headed toward Birmingham, I am okay. But, listening to J I managed to miss the exit to home up 65. I crossed the interstate, exited at 22nd street and wondered how to get back on 65 N. So, I headed South to University drive, and followed it to interstate and all was smooth from there on.
We went to bathroom in WM since were both in pain. I refused to let her out of my sight, so I had her go to family bathroom while I waited outside. Then, I made her stay in there while I went. We headed to my house and she came in. She didn't "know what to do, where to go." I told her she could lie down in my floor and sleep or I would drive her home. She said this at least 100 times in two hours.
She stood up and said she felt like she was going to faint. I nonchalantly said don't knock anything over when she fell. She tried to collapse, but it was a controlled fall. I just lay here and turned off the light. However, I stayed turned on right side so I could see her. In about five minutes, I saw her stand up and lean to look at me. Except for those five minutes, craziness came from her mouth from about 6 pm on Wednesday until 4:30 am on Thursday.
At 8 or so, she said she was going home. She came back about 2 pm today, showered and looking nice. Her bf not only took her phone, he left with her purse, three bags of her clothing. So, I suggested we go get it. She was all against that because it was wrong to open the door to his unlocked car and get her things. I insisted.
When we got there, she headed straight to the area he works. I screamed at her to come back. She kept turning back saying she needed to tell him, needed to see him. She said she could not just get her things without telling him. I am yelling at her to get the stuff and come on. She got in the car and said it did not feel right to do what she is doing.
Finally, I let her out at her house. I went somewhere and came back past the house where they live. She had met him at the car and was making the motions of explaining and switching around in an "I'm helpless" sort of way. He yelled at me when I passed by. When I got home, his phone was calling me. I am not sure if it were him or her. But, I ignored it.
This was a trip full of her "religious" type rants, looking up and saying she wanted to be up there, talking to Jesus, asking me questions, telling me the "truth" because it is in the Bible and I just said the word. And what does it all mean. Threatening to take the whole bottle of Benadryl so she could sleep forever, saying if she had a gun she would blow her brains out, saying she wanted to walk in front of a car.
I took her threats of suicide semi-seriously. People who threaten and people who try to commit suicide sometimes succeed. I told my friend who is allowing them to live there about this, but he seemed cold to her problems and cannot wait until the last day of the month when they will be gone. They still have no place to go. She said she was depending on her bf to find a place.
She knows there is no room here, or she would be wanting to stay with me. No way, even if I had room. She would allow him in the door and I would have to hurt him. Then, I would call police to him.
Oh, I suggested Victim's Services quite a few times and she would beg me not to take her there, like I could make her go. They would not even open the door for her since the police would have to bring her. I am privy to the location, but signed a confidentiality agreement.
I offered to take her to hospital where they can keep her for a day, I think.
She cannot leave him because she "loves everybody just like the Bible says to do." She says she cannot judge him. She wants to love everybody and think no one is doing wrong. I told her that "by their fruits you shall know them." So, she just has to look at his abusive actions. She does not believe in talking behind a person's back. But, she has told me tales about many people.
She would go off on another crazy rant.
However, she has lied about things around here and how they went down. My friend with whom she lives believes me as he has same problems.
Bible gibberish--she just says a Bible verse, or sees a name in Bible on sign and excitedly points to it, repeating the name and saying it is in the Bible. Hears me say "word" and interrupts me excitedly saying " 'Word' is in the Bible." Somewhere, she saw the name "David" on a billboard and got excited because "it is in the Bible." Oh, adding this--when I say she says a Bible verse, she just says something like "John 3:16." She thinks quoting book name, chapter number, and verse numbers is testifying.
Okay, gotta stop. I am still exhausted mentally and physically from last night that extended into this morning and resumed this afternoon. Whew!

forgot to add--there were other items to put in the salad that I did not choose, like cucumbers, onions, croutons, and other things I don't eat.

Coconut Oil-- Healthy? + Free Dinner
I have never thought coconut oil was good for a person to consume for health benefits. I have heard things.
I do have a container in the cabinet. But, since I read several more articles, I will just use it for my skin.
I found one article to share with you. And, this article. I know you might disagree, but this is how I decided not to use coconut oil for consumption.
Thursday night, I went to the free dinner. We had bbq sandwiches, baked beans, chips, green beans, unsweetened tea, ice cream and cookies. I had a second sandwich. I should have left the bread and eaten just the meat. I also should have left off the ice cream and cookies. Okay, I only ate one of my two cookies and left all the beans and half the chips. The food was great.
Once again, I met interesting people. The woman was a former teacher and now a youth minister, while her husband is a school principal. She was funny and so unpretentious. We laughed the whole time. Her grade school child was with her and her husband soon joined her. I could spend these occasions in conversation and almost not miss the food.

Do you believe coconut oil is healthy for you? Do you consume it? Or, do you limit your use to your skin care regimen? Any free dinners coming your way?

New Free Dinner
I will go back. The food was quite good, but I needed to use the salt shaker on my mashed potatoes, boiled and mashed with the skin on...my kind of potatoes.
They served pork, bbq sauce on top, baked beans, mashed potatoes, roll, ice cream, brownie. I did not eat the baked beans or half my potatoes. The baked beans, mashed potatoes, and part of the roll along with oats from home was for Dominique.
The company was excellent. A couple who were retired from a school system in MO sat with me along with J and her bf. J did not come with me, but just happened to see me.
This dinner happens every Thursday night at some sort of center where they help people with GED, resumes, drug rehab, and such. One young woman from rehab sat and talked with me for a while before people came in. When parents are allowing a young girl to be molested for years and blame it on her, and she is finally raped by two men, how do these young people have any chance for a normal life? She said she is off meth and heroin but not strong enough, so she went to rehab, on her own...she said.
I tried to encourage her to be strong. She said she rejected men because of their mistreatment since she was three-years-old and turned to women, but she knew that was not what she wanted. She is only 24-years-old, and a very sweet, well-spoken person, not hardened like I would expect from her history.
This is working. Going places that are free and talking to her and the very well-educated couple pulls me from TV and the Internet! My mind needs this.
It is so hot I am just dying and it is after 8 pm. Friday night, it should be in the high 50s, so I am looking forward to sleeping well that night.
Your turn
Do you find yourself in need of entertainment that is not TV or internet? Anyone still suffering from the heat still? Do you ever talk to people who are or were addicts and marvel at the evil in their worlds? Are you thankful you were never on the same path and had parents who believed you, protected you, and were not addicts themselves?

The Good; The Bad; The Ugly and you know there is free stuff
Today was another free lunch at a church. We had fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, hot, buttered slice of French bread. Cookies were dessert. We both had unsweetened tea. Froemds O ,et amptjer cjircj ca,e tjos to,e/ <<<<<
We both got a to go box. Of course, I carried out a plate of food for Dominique. She dug right in.
Since I had taken back too many things to WM without a receipt, exbf returned two things for me. That $25 will buy gas for the rest of the month....well, maybe.
We went to Harbor Freight and got two free reachers. I was driving and getting in and out after we went to WM.. When I was ready to go in HF, I showed him the three choices of free items on the ad I had, and asked him if a reacher would help him. He gasped and spoke louder, agreeing he would like one and needed one desperately. He said he was looking at that coupon when I was inside somewhere. So, I got two reachers, one from each of our phone numbers. The manager lets me get them because exbf walks slowly and painfully, using two crutches. Since I had to purchase something, I bought two utility knives, one for each of our free items.
I had to pay for and pick up two coupons I won. I got a $10 coupon for KFC for $6, and a $20 fabric store coupon for $7. "Won" means I was one of the first callers to ask for the coupon. It's how fast you are. A $10 coupon will buy two $5 dinners on Tuesday. I thought about using it today. But, that was not to be.
Went to fabric store and shopped with my $20 coupon. I got three buttons for the front of exbf's 3 pants for a dime each, pretty metal. For a dime each I purchased 10 heart-shaped metal buttons just because. I found red chevron and green chevron print fabric and got 1.5 yards of each, plus a weird shaped floral scrap for $1. Oh, and a rubbery thimble since I cannot find my leather thimble. Metal thimbles hurt me.
We rested a bit and I offered him a salad with chicken, tomatoes and other vegetables orKFC. He said the go box dinner was fine. Heating that up was a real back saver since I was hobbling around. That's free lunch, dinner, and second dinner which will be scrambled eggs and some greens. Since I had no breakfast, I am taking the liberty to have two dinners. Maybe some fruit.
I also received free fruit today! The bananas sorely need freezing.
The day was sailing along fine, hot and pretty. Everything happened as it should.
THEN, I tried to open my driver's door after putting something in the passenger side. The automatic lock did not work. So, with my heart beating fast and the sweat pouring even more than the 90 degree heat warranted, I opened the driver's door with a key and got in. The dome light was off. The key did not make one sound happen in the guts of the car...AAACK!
Exbf is not physically capable anymore of doing anything to the car. So, I called J's boyfriend. They are broke so he did not want to use his gas for anything. He did not say so, but I knew. He came down and took me six blocks to Auto Zone, telling me they would not lend me jumper cables. They did. I frequent the place and they took my driver's license for collateral.
The car started immediately. When I took the cables back and collected my license, I asked them to check my battery. She said the battery was fine and now to turn on the car so she could check the alternator. The alternator is bad. Soooo, now I have to get a new alternator. Even though this one has a life-time warranty, it is such a hassle. I will have to pay to have the old removed and new installed. I seriously need a guy around to handle this stuff. Well, that is not all that needs handling.
I managed to get the car to WM and J got a gallon of gas in their gas can and put gas in my car, too, using the money on the card from WM. We came home and I gave her ground chuck, bread, and a few more items.
Ugly--ants are swarming in my car. I have no idea why they left and returned. Maybe they never left, just hid! ???
It seems as I get older problems and heat exhaust me more and it's harder to bounce back! Okay, I am gooey from melted Peppermint Patty.

Do I REALLY want to get up so early?
The free breakfast next week is for cancer survivors. I am that. But, 7 am? UGH. I suppose I will just this once to see what the program is. I will have to take my own a2milk. Maybe I will take some eggs from my hens, scrambled, of course. Or, I could eat before I go! Or, stay in bed.
Then, also next week there is a free dinner for cancer survivors, too. That, I can make.
Plus, there is a free lunch next week at the church where there was a great program.
So, three meals out of 21 works for me.
I missed the free lunch at a presentation this past week. This bronchitis is not letting go, even with meds. I am so tired all the time but don't feel sick and NEVER cough. My blood pressure was 123/62 and oxygen absorption 99%. Very low temp--below 98.6 F, no cough, just can feel light scraping in chest.
Tonight, I lay in bed with a mixing bowl on my chest and ate mashed potatoes, real ones I made. Exbf was here today and took me to the doctor and to Publix to get my a2milk. I made quick and easy dinner--mashed potatoes, field peas, sausages--but was to tired to eat.
At least the skies are brilliant blue with little clouds scudding along.
Your turn
How is your spring going? Flowers? Mowing? Digging? Planting?

Free Dinner Wednesday
On Wednesday, I had to go to the orthopedist in Huntsville. When I got through, I met up with a friend who gave me a meal in a go-box to take with me.
Baked chicken breast, one medium roasted red potato, salad, a croissant, and a small square of chocolate cake that was mostly chocolate icing. There are no complaints about the frosting/icing since I would take all icing if offered. If I can keep this going with the free meals, I may never have to cook again.
Of course, Dominique gets the leftovers. There is plenty of meat left on the bones, plus the skin. Some salad got underneath the chicken. She gets grass and weeds, too, along with her staple--a serving of oats.
I don't know if I said so, but on Tuesday, Dominique got a huge plate from the Tuesday free lunch. I ate everything but the bone and fat from the pork chop and skin from the sweet potato. J left most of her meal. Since she left so much, I did not have to ask other people for scraps.
It is now time for dinner on Thursday evening, and there is no free dinner forthcoming. Have I been spoiled? Next Tuesday, there will be another delicious lunch!
This morning, Thursday, I baked 13 chicken legs in a turkey bag. These are for exbf. They are frozen and ready for him to take home when he comes. While I wanted to cook them on the grill, I did not want to cook on the grill. Legs are so greasy. After they baked, I took off the skin and set the legs in a colander to get a bit more fat off them. He will appreciate that little touch.
I uncovered a bag of cooked, frozen chicken breasts while I put the legs away. So, one of those will be part of my dinner. Maybe a salad, too. It will be wonderful to get all the food from the freezer eaten. I think the uncooked chunks of beef and lamb are gone. There is only ground pork and ground beef, I think.
Your turn
Do like the frosting or the cake better? When I was losing weight, I just ate frosting off my piece of cake. I figured I would just eat what I really loved, not everything in front of me in order to not gain and still enjoy chocolate.

Tuesday--Free Lunch, Free Dinner, Free Snacks!
Today, J and I went to a church dinner. We got there a bit early and she painted her nails with some polish I gave her since she had none. We talked and noticed nothing around the car as we sat.
When it was time to go in, I was shocked. Not one soul or car was there. She checked her calendar and found we were there on the wrong day. I drove away and suddenly remembered another church had a lunch today. We turned around and went to the other church.
The dinner was spectacular and dinner will be, too. I brought home a go-plate. We had pork chops that were so tender and tasty. Sweet potatoes were baked in foil. I believe they were my favorite variety--Beauregard. Corn and a slice of bread with garlic butter finished the meal. They always have cookies in a snack bag for dessert. Unsweetened tea makes me happy every time.
We went to WM where I had one thing to get. Then, she went with me to Belk to bring shoes to me. I tried on lots of shoes and found nothing. Then, we went to purses where I did find something with her help, just not what I wanted. She does not have a purse at all. Since she will be helping me, I offered to buy here a $20 purse and she could work it off. I was not being mean, but that was the price of mine after several markdowns. It is not leather but looks better than my raggedy purse which was free and new a few years ago.
We came back here, sat and watched Dominique and enjoyed the warm weather with a gentle breeze. Since I had promised J Southern Living magazines, we came inside. Well, I thought the stack was 8 inches high. No, there were four stacks that were each a foot high. She only took about 1/3 of the magazines. When she is through with them, we will haul them to a food bank, a doctor's office, and various places. I only kept about 6, one of which belongs to my son. I had magazines of all sorts that I had forgotten about. They were out of sight in a closet, not cluttering my living space.
I wish I had the money I spent on magazines. Of course, they were cheaper than movies and more uplifting than going out--what friends did. By the way, I got rid of ten years of Victoria about fifteen years ago and never bought another one. This is just about the fifth time I have gotten rid of magazines. I want to keep them until a few years pass and all of a sudden, I don't want them, then I get rid of more.
Now, it is time to heat the take-out dinner and enjoy that once again. Snacks were cookies. Since I have had a banana, I will have strawberries, and an apple to round out my meal and snack later on tonight. Maybe I will have kale with the meal, too.
Dominique gave me two eggs today. Yesterday, she obviously laid one late. Then, there was today's egg.
My free things to do happened today. Two meals. Wow, and I did not mess up a dish. We had a very pleasant, low key, inexpensive girl's day out.
Your turn
Do you have too many magazines? Do you get rid of them often? Was the weather beautiful so you could sit outdoors in sandals and a short sleeve? Anyone get a free lunch today or lately?
