Such a Nightmare-Worst I Have Ever Had

 Tuesday night, I could not sleep. When Tommy awoke at 8 am, I asked him if he just wanted to go now to get ads and bogo items we wanted. I think he was a little shocked. I am oats and he ate something. We left before 9 am.

I really did not want the bogo on Spice Island Ground Sage to sell out. He had gone through the spices on Tuesday to see what we need for the holidays. Ground Sage was the only thing that we needed. While at Publix where Ocean Spray cranberries were $4.99 for 12 ounces, I looked to see if they were on sale. Yes! They were 2 packages for $4. I bought two and they are in the refrigerator. Those will be gone before the day is over. 

We got bananas, white grapes, Miracle Whip (2), 2 small packages of strawberry Jello, bag of Meyer Lemons, one Spice Island Ground Sage bogo, We did not buy much, just bogo items we needed and a few other items. 

I was in the bed for  nap by noon. I slept until 6 pm when I awoke from a nightmare. I was murdering someone. I had a long, bladed weapon. It was three feet long, mostly blade. Now, you know I could not wield it! It was gory. I immediately regretted what I had done. Then, I woke up. Lots happened at the beginning, but I cannot remember it which is probably for the best. 

Two appointments have been scheduled, one on Thursday and another on Friday for getting a shower installed we can use. I need to investigate both companies. I know the rotted-out window will need a repair. There is no exhaust fan. One-inch tile on floor and walls will probably need to go. I am sure the massive mirror will go. Vanity probably needs to go. Sink is rusted. 4-inch tiles on the wall will probably be ready to go once all the tile with leaks around them are removed. It actually does not look as bad as it sounds. The new commode will go. The light fixture I bought for the kitchen will go in the bathroom. I think what I described is 'gutting.'

Cleaner was supposed to come to get the car title. I have no idea why she did not. Her daughter bought Tommy's car. But, the mother's name will be on all papers. She had a much more extensive surgery on her hand, so no telling how long it will be until she can help me again. 

I received a text from creep. He said he searched for text I did not like. He said he sent it to me by mistake and he was sorry. He said it was for his girlfriend. He apologized again. I just read this as it showed up on window of flip-phone and did not reply. Hopefully, he will just go away. There were other issues. 

Today, when I went out at about 9 am, it was very cool and pleasant--no wind, no moisture. I hear we are in for much cooler weather, more like it usually in in November. We still have a huge tree that is green. 

I am excited about the new bathroom! Tommy admitted he was afraid of getting into the shower since he hoists himself by holding onto the shower frame. I will love washing my hair sitting down in the shower instead of bending over the sink since I am afraid I will fall trying to hold onto wet sink and counter. 

Thursday, I will cook the cranberries I took from freezer. They will be our Thanksgiving cranberries. I use much less sugar than the recipe on the bag lists. The two packages I bought today are in the freezer for maybe Christmas. Saturday, I plan to cook pork loin and vegetables to eat and to share with neighbor who takes out the garbage can each week.

It is only two weeks until Thanksgiving. Unbelievable. How is the plan for cooking coming along. Anything cooked and waiting in the freezer like I have done?

Exhaustion and Cancelled Appointment

 My sleep was so messed up that I have been exhausted all day. One time, I lay down for an hour nap, woke in 15 minutes, thinking Tommy had called me. Nope. Lay down for another then minutes, kept sleeping and waking up--about three times in ten minutes. 

So, nothing much was done, just got the laundry ready and Tommy washed and dried. We went out for 3 store ads. I shopped a bit. Good news is that my milk is on sale for 'only' $9/gal. Bad news is that there is a turkey breast thawing where the milk goes. 

One store had all the huge Halloween decorations down. I wonder why. I hope they were not vandalized. 

Quaker 42 oz. Old-Fashioned Oats were bogo, making them $4. Progresso Chicken Broth was bogo. I got one for $1.39. Of course, I needed bananas. 

The turkey breast thawing is going to be frozen for Thanksgiving. Tommy is going to find the frozen cranberries from the first of the year. So, we will have turkey and cooked and frozen cranberry sauce done for the Thanksgiving meal.

I cannot stand up to bake. So, I have a plan. I will get a small, folding table, put it in front of counter, find a chair, and mix things there. I told Tommy he would have to be present to hand me ingredients or whatever I need. He did not moan at all. I think he wants homemade baked goods. I want to bake some for the guy who takes out the garbage and brings in the empty can. 

Pumpkin bread and pumpkin are on the list of things to make. I cannot find a chocolate pound cake recipe to replace the one lost in the house. I want to bake a pumpkin pie without crust. But, Tommy wants a crust. So, I will bake another without crust in a casserole dish. I have not made a pecan pie in ten years or more. I may make one this year. 

I am afraid for us to put out the garbage on Halloween. It seems it will be a good target for vandals. I will probably bring in Skelli when it gets dark. 

We ate our only Halloween candy. Tommy said to divide them up. So, we each had twenty candy corn pieces. I ate both the pumpkins. 

Dinner was turkey, tomatoes, and turnip greens. I think Tommy had the same thing. Not sure since he eats different things than me most of the time. 

Since I have the Impala title, I have called mower about four times. So, I had Tommy call. Mower said "okay." He said not one word more. Tommy screwed up and said, "was he willing to buy the car?" Bad choice of words! Now, it sounds like we are begging him to buy it. I know he thinks he can wait me out until I lower the price. NO WAY! I have other people interested. I have been saving it for him.

New Angels

 I attended the medical appointment for the lymphedema legs that compress my legs. The appointment almost killed me. It hurt so much. Mainly, it hurt my back trying to sit so the legs could go up my leg. 

The young women were so nice, not nurses, just people who believed me when I said I was hurting and that the plastic hurt my toes just to touch my toes. 

After that we left to go to Chicken Salad Chick. We passed the main Piggly Wiggly. I wanted to go in but I was too hurt and hungry.

We sat in the parking lot and ate. Then we headed home. I wish I cold walk better and go to Homewood often for the special shops like Cookie Fix. I could probably walk enough to counteract the sugar. Seriously, there are so many specialty shops, probably all too expensive. 

Next was Publix. I bought almost 8 lbs. of bananas. I will, as they ripen, peel, cut in half and freeze. Take that dock strike! 

I read that people are stripping Walmart of tp. Is that fear or reality, I wonder. Only one thing I bought was not bogo or on sale. Only one item that was bogo, and that I wanted was off the shelves, sold out--frozen broccoli. The price is okay when on sale, otherwise, not inexpensive enough to buy.

Okay, more not bogo items are here. I was mistaken. 

I took a nap from 4 pm to 8 pm and felt groggy and disoriented for about two minutes. I thought it was morning. Now, I just feel rested. We are going to get my 'legs' on me for an hour. These two young women were so nice and helpful. I feel so lucky to find one more place that believes me and works to help me. Everything I told them was met with knowing nods and tips for living better and bringing down swelling. 

Tonight, TV was all PBS for us. We both enjoy these programs. 

Tommy was eating leftovers when I awoke. So, I am eating leftovers, too, at 10 pm. I will have salad with chicken breast. I wish I had another meal from Chicken Salad Chick! Salmon croquettes are moved forward. No problem.

Today was exhausting, but very productive moving me toward better health! 

Even though people are stripping the toilet paper and paper towels from shelves, on TV I heard these items would not be delayed.  I knew that, so did not buy any. Of course, these people are creating artificial shortages! Some of the things I bought are not necessities, but maybe a good sale for holidays. Bananas are the only thing I bought in case of a shortage.

Saturday, I slept lots because I did not sleep much on Friday night. We did two things. Since the $11.98 pink petunia was marked down to $7.60, I went back for a white petunia. I still did not see the Stella d Oro. We spent a lot of time looking for the white petunias marked down. The white petunia for $11.98 was marked down to $8. Good deal. Tommy used his canes to walk and help me. Check Lowe's for lowered prices not marked on plant or a sign.

We went by Publix and bought bananas, bread. I found small cans of Dole pineapple for $1 each and bought ten, five crushed and five chunks. There were no Red Delicious apples, and I was sad. There was a Christmas display of Lindt truffles for $5.37 instead of the original price of $9.99. Just before Christmas, the Lindt truffles were bogo. That reduced price won't tempt me. 

We came home, and I deadheaded the white petunias. Lots of the flowers are ready to burst into bloom. So both should be prettier soon. 

Oh, I meant to say that Tommy used the BullseyePro to air up a tire. It is much better than the one I bought before and returned. This is advertised on TV. 

Tomorrow, the plan is to call about the mattress and base. I did place an order and called back and changed it. The salesman was a dream. When I called back about not getting what I ordered the second time around, he said coldly, "You got what you asked for!" I refuse to debate him or CS. I do not want to get upset. But, I will prevail. I asked for 'zero gravity." This bed only raises about six inches at the foot.

Around 11:30 am, I will make sure I am ready to be watchful until around 4 pm, the time it is possible to see a partial eclipse here. If there are clouds or rain, the whole four hours might not be best for viewing. So, I am giving myself four hours to catch it. 

Dinner for me: kale, yellow squash/onions, macaroni and cheese, applesauce-1/2 cup. Tommy: ham, squash/onions, kale, last piece of zucchini, macaroni and cheese. I am stuffed. 

One of my favorite sandwiches is bread with Miracle Whip and pineapple. I usually use slices. However, it has been over two years since I had a pineapple sandwich. 

Today was a cloudy day at different times. There was plenty of sun, too. Hopefully tomorrow will be at least as pretty out as this one was. 

I am ready for the eclipse, just need to make a pinhole viewer. It is a simple job.

Pest Control Fail

 This is my third night of sleep, sleeping at night for about 6 hours which I can supplement with a nap. This a relief. I do believe it is related to taking med in the morning instead of the evening. 

I did get one item that was not in the store that was advertised as bogo--French's Fried Onions. This is for green bean casserole. 

Three pounds of frozen blueberries are on the stove. I cook them with about 1/4th cup of sugar and store them in pint jars to eat with yogurt. I have no idea how bold was turned on. The last time I did this, I really enjoyed the healthy snack. About a month or six weeks after Tommy told me I finished the last pint, he brought a pint that was moldy that was pushed back where neither of us could see it. I was so sad. So was he. There is no room in the freezer, but this time I will make room for at least two pints. I cannot wait to have some later. 

We contracted pest control for the inside and outside of the house. The guy said they would spray the house Wednesday or Thursday. Well, here is is Friday night. I called them about 3 pm to discuss what was happening. No one knows anything about spraying inside the house. They have no record of us calling. However, I caught a bit of a text about spraying the yard for mosquitoes. I was complaining about fleas. FLEAS in the house!

Plus, I emphasized no texts! I get no notification of texts arriving, and they are hard to access. Plus, the screen goes dark and turns off the text when I regain light. I refuse to search for texts! I don't like texts on this phone. My last phone was okay with texts. I ran out of best flea killer I have ever used and forgot to get more. So, I am annoyed that fleas will bite me again. And, they have the cc number and probably have charged us. 

The heavy rain forecasted did not affect us here. Pollen has been tormenting me, but it appears it didn't rain enough to wash it away sufficiently for me. It drizzled on and off. 

I desperately need a new prescription for glasses. The only thing I can read is the laptop with magnification! Books are out of the question. Plus, I cannot stand the sun lately. I have no idea why my eyes are so sensitive to the blaze of the sun. Then, I read that as a person ages, the eyes are more sensitive to the sun. I will get prescription sunglasses!

 Today was a rough day. I am sooo tired. Last night, I actually slept at night instead of all day. I may have partially solved my sleep problem. I started taking my meds in the morning instead of at night. Things like thyroid meds are supposed to be taken in the morning. As a result of this change, I am exhausted and my eyes will not stay open. So, like a sane person, I go to bed. 

We had things to do and did not get to Publix until about 5 pm. UGH Never let me do that again. But, I did need things. Both of us needed milk.

Tommy had called Keith to mow. Twice. No response. So, I called today. He had not heard from Tommy and was confused. I sat right here and heard Tommy leave a message twice. So, no telling what happened, but the yard has needed mowing for a month. 

Tonight, we cooked the eye of round roast with potatoes, carrots, and celery. Delicious. I forgot to have slaw. 

Today, the day ended up with high, overcast skies. The day was bright, not gloomy at all. The high was in the 70s. We are preparing for a rainy day tomorrow. 

I have frozen limas that I will use for succotash. The corn will be canned, but it will be good. I am planning to use frozen green beans for green bean casserole for Tommy. And, I need to cook the zucchini I bought this week. Remind me. 

All day, I have wanted to call my two friends who are ill. They are actually too ill to talk, so I have not called. Tomorrow I will send each a note. It is all I can do. It makes me feel helpless. 

I am going to be hanging Easter eggs in Tommy's Dogwood tree. That is all my decorating for Easter. Do you decorate for Easter? 

Flabbergasted--Another Death

 The Podiatrist appointment was today at 12:30 pm, We left the office at 3:30 pm. I was exhausted by the time we left. At 2 pm, I knew we would not be home for cleaner to come at 3 pm, so cancelled. Tommy carried crackers to carry us through. However, I had just eaten so made it fine. 

As Pod finished, I mentioned the big 'freckle' on my big toe about 1/4 inch from nail. I said I was going to have it removed to be sure it was not cancer. Pod looked at me and said, "Do you know how rare foot cancer is?" I asked, "Do you know that several of my father's brothers died from melanoma that was untreated?" Pod said, "No." "Do you know my father died from pancreatic cancer as did his mother, my grandmother? Derm said, "No" I supposed I schooled her! 

Funny thing--when I mentioned the spot, the freckle, or whatever it is, Pod tried to clean it off with alcohol and sort of scratched it. It was permanent. I thought it was dirty, too, weeks ago, but it was on to stay. 

I felt like I was not heard, like Pod was taking away my agency. Well, I had determined that I would have the Derm remove the freckle and test it. 

Pod came in limping with a boot, acting like walking was painful. It seems Pod was walking along and broke foot. Podiatrist breaks own foot while simply walking!

When we left the doctor's office, I took a prescription to Publix. I told Pod that Walgreen's said it was all the same, that they did not carry the drops she wanted me to have. She gave me another paper prescription to take to Publix. Publix Pharmacist said they could not order it and wanted me to take another iteration of the same med. Tomorrow, I will call another drugstore. 

On the way out of Publix, I saw a bogo that I bought. Knorr's Pasta Sides were 4/$5. I imagine a one-pot meal for dinner. I bought four. Tonight, I used Fettucine and Broccoli in a Chicken Flavored Sauce. I decided to put the rest of the frozen broccoli in and a piece of chicken breast. Well, there was not much broccoli left so I put in a new bag of frozen broccoli, well, most of it. 

Then, Tommy found two chicken breasts in freezer. The small one was only part of a breast and not enough for one person. So, the large one went into pot. It was only one vegetable, but it was delicious and easy to make. After I had a bowlful, I used Three Cheddar Shredded Cheese. Everything in this one-pot meal was bought bogo or on sale.

I chose three more sides:

Four Cheese Pasta. I did not mean to buy mac and cheese. But, I will either eat as it is or add enough to make it a meal for two.

Herb and Butter. Why did I buy two pastas like these?

Fettucine in a Savory Chicken Flavored Sauce. Okay, this pasta is better choice. All four will probably be made into four one-pot meals. I thought all four were fettucine!

I decided to call R, female friend who bought a fancy storm door that was a security door. I mentioned S, a friend of ours. She said he died, sort of as an aside. I knew he lost one toe to diabetes and his penchant for sweets, but I found out he was losing one toe about every two years. One lost toe would certainly wake me up. When they went into his house after he died, there was a three-pound bag of candy corn in his chair that he had taken to sleeping in instead of bed. 

You may remember a friend's antique store that we ate in for Thanksgiving. I was looking for pictures just now, but cannot find them. 

I asked R if anyone else had died that were our friends. She said T almost died but did not. S is gay man, longtime friend. Well, T and D are a gay couple. D was antiquing at an estate sale. He went into cupboard or closet, picked out some things, bought them, went home. The next day he went back to the cupboard/pantry and stepped in. Little did he know someone had gone in there and opened a trap door in the floor and did not close it. Of course, T fell through hitting many things including a wall. He was taken to ER. He suffered many injuries. 

His arm suffered a trauma that was treated. Months later, it was bothering him but since the ER doctor had treated the arm, he assumed it was going to get better and did not seek further treatment. Well, months later when he did go back, doctor found staph infection. Soon, they discovered that he had staph in arm. It was in his spine. R said, they opened up his spine and vacuumed out the staph. It had damaged his spine so two rods were put on side of his spine to stabilize it. Then, the staph was found in bones of the arm. He cannot use his arm. 

Since his husband, D, has dementia, he could not help care for him at home even with nurses coming in to treat him. Now, T is in nursing home. I am flabbergasted that one misstep could cause such damage. 

S's death horrified me. The accident T had is almost worse. So, I am feeling emotional right now. It is hard to lose a friend and hard to think another almost lost his life. Today was a physically hard day and emotional. I am exhausted.

Grocery Deals

 Today, despite how I felt, we shopped in three grocery stores. I felt so awful, I made him come with me. I am still fuzzy-headed, in much pain, and one kidney hurts, the one I fell on. Or, maybe it is the uti. This is groceries bought this week. The store was packed like it was the day before Thanksgiving. People were after the same BOGOs I was.

Lakewood Cranberry juice--only cranberry, one quart and $10.99, for uti that I have antibiotic to cure.

WRONG

I bought at Publix Campbell's cream of chicken and cream of mushroom, no sodium, BOGO. So, it was $.99 cents/can. Then, bag of cornmeal, and one other thing on sale. That was another $7, I think. 

So Corrected Total would be around $130. 

This is regular spending with Thanksgiving bargains thrown in. Some of it may not be eaten until Christmas or next year. 

I am too sick to go over this post. So, here it is. 

We keep chocolate chips for a snack. It beats more costly and more fattening snacks. It might take us a year to eat the two cheap bags I bought today. I keep them in a short, amber, pink jar with a drinking lid. We just open it and shake the chips out. 

Of course, I will cook the chicken to freeze. I think we will have a chicken/brown rice/broccoli casserole. We will both have the chicken/brown rice and broccoli. Tommy loves that. I will make two small casseroles so I can put cheese and pimiento in mine. Each of the tiny casseroles will have one chicken breast and will make at least two meals. 

I wanted to make pumpkin pie without the pie crust. But, Tommy really wants a pie crust. So, he gets crust which I will eat, too. 

EGGS--I forgot them. 

Feverish and shaking here. Can barely walk. Tomorrow, maybe I can relate the fall from a height and uti and maybe cardiologist visit.

We are under a burn ban, and the weird neighbors with barking dogs had a huge fire in the carport. They also have pile of junk all over the carport. I did call police. I have no idea of the outcome of that visit. The bit of rain, measured in 100 hundredths of an inch, did nothing to assuage the danger. 

Are you finding good deals for Thanksgiving? We will only buy turkey breasts. So, I am ignoring turkey deals...maybe...lol. 

My Barbie Clothes

 Remember the grab bag for which  I paid $2? Two items in it will become Barbie clothes. There were two pair of spandex panties. One was raspberry and the other was a pink striped. I decided these would be the basis of two new dresses for my Barbie. The elastic will serve to be the ovr-the-bust area so I won't have to worry about the dress falling down or my shaping it. I will make the dress as long as the material will let me. 

It will need sparkles or lace or tulle or something shiny around the top and bottom because these will be fancy dresses. The price of the panties is negligible. But, the price of the adornments will be more. This is where my stash of bits and pieces of lace or rhinestones would be handy. Alas, I no longer have these bits and pieces. 

For years, I saved these bits. It was not hoarding. It was probably what some would deem 'junk.'  There were strings of pearls, you know, the kind sold by the yard. I also had a stash of ribbon ends. Maybe some of you keep this kind of stash. 

The other day, I took a crimson grosgrain ribbon that was tied to a stack of four tiny plates and put it with my new collection of bits and pieces I save for decorating a bow for a package, doll clothes, and other decorations. But, I don't have this old well-stocked box now. I even saved brown grosgrain ribbon that I can use for Thanksgiving.

Do any of you save bits of ribbon or rhinestones to add to something you are sewing or gluing? Do you save bits of ribbon for embellishment. It is fun to have a little box to rummage in for something to complete a look for seasons or dolls or to put on ribbons on presents. Maybe is is just me.

Today, I bought two yard flags, the small ones, for Halloween. They were 90% off at Lowe's. I paid $0.49 each. 

One is two squirrels with a squirrel with bolts in his neck and another is a rabbit pushing a wheelbarrow with a stack of three pumpkins. Of course, I only have one of the holders, but that is enough. They are in an orange box now.

I was in Lowe's to buy a pair of pruners, the short ones, for Tommy or me, most likely him, to prune the flowers before we store them. Each pot might have one blossom, if any at all. Tommy broke a pair of scissors because he could not find our other pruners. I think I received the scissors for free from Harbor Freight, so no big deal they broke. He has used them on heavy cardboard and the tough plastic containers before, so it was their time to go.

We drove to Hoover to shop at that Publix, getting things for holidays, and bogo that was not here in Hueytown. Jimmy Dean one-pound rolls of mild sausage were 2/$4. In another store, Tommy noticed it was almost $5. We will want sausage balls a couple of times during the holidays. 

It has been 73 days since B'ham has had more than 1-inch of rain nd 54 days since we have had more than 1/2-inch of rain. Friday, it should rain, but not much. Hopefully, no more wildfires will occur. 

In Lowe's I met a really friendly woman, and we exchanged telephone numbers. When I asked her if I could have her number, she was eager and asked for my number in return. Lovely woman.

BOGO Groceries and Amazon Order and Treadle Sewing Machine

On Tuesday night, I went over the ads online for the three stores in which I shop. One store had two things I needed, one store had one thing, and another had a dozen bargains. 

I slept little, got up and went back to bed. Since I needed to get up by 1 pm and Tommy woke me at 1:20, I was rushed and hurting. I rushed and had a tuna sandwich for lunch. My friend was coming by to help with the grill. It seemed there was nothing wrong. I just did not know it was on. 

While it was on, I decided at to grill the two hamburgers I had left to grill. Then, it smelled so good, I wanted to eat right then. We both had a burger on bread. Since I pulled off all my crust to eat less bread, I knew I was not going to need a lot of dinner. We both had a huge salad for dinner. 

After the burger we went to three grocery stores. Food Giant had chicken tenders for $1.99/lb. I think the two packages had six pounds. Tomorrow, we go back for rolls of sausage 2/$5--Jimmy Dean. We can have sausage balls for a festive treat. 

The Pig had salad greens cheap, so Tommy bought two bags. We will probably eat these two bags and get two more before the sale goes off Tuesday night. 

Publix: Del Monte Fruit Cocktail bogo, Eagle Brand Milk  2/$4. Pint ziplocs were bogo. Planters jars of peanuts bogo. The Cheerios Tommy likes were bogo. I will get two square snaplock storage containers to use as a sandwich box or food containers to take with me in the car. The glass ones are too heavy and too dangerous. Plus, they often have food in them when I need them. Plugra butter is on sale. 

Plugra butter is on sale. I have never heard of that brand. Have you? Stuffing is 2/$5--not impressed. There were lots of items on sale, stuff I have bought much more cheaply earlier. 

When I received an Amazon order today, I was puzzled. I had ordered Halloween candles, but not two packages. Plus, I had ordered another set of three candles that run with batteries and have a remote. Why did I get two. They can send me more than I order, but just don't charge me! lol The price for the whole order is almost twice what was showing when I placed the order. Now, I have to straighten this out. 

Besides the candles, I bought a leather thimble. It is too stiff, so I will take it to a cobbler friend's shop to fix it. Also, I found a book about working on treadle machines. This will be my bible for a bit as I work on my treadle machine my mother gave me. She no longer had her grandmother's treadle, the one on which I learned to sew. However, she bought each of us three girls a treadle at yard sales on year and gave them to us at Christmas. It was a wonderful gift for each of us. 

Now, I won't have to depend on someone I don't trust entirely to work on my Singer Treadle if the work is beyond my skills. Some unscrupulous repairers take parts from customers' machines to repair their own machines or to repair machines of people who will pay exorbitant prices in order to have their machines repaired.  Mostly, the repaired machines to sell. Now, I know exactly where to oil and what kind of oil. Plus, there are special tools I need. 

I have a treadle machine sitting in the carport with a modern electric machine in it. The plan is to sell the machine head, sell all the wooden drawers, and make a table out of the iron base. This is apart from the Singer treadle machine Mama gave me. I would never take it apart. 

Mama made very nice dresses for us when I was little on a treadle machine! A treadle machine holds a special place in my heart, heritage, and thoughts.
