Friday, about 7 pm, I had the flu shot at WM. It did not hurt one bit. I sure hope this one works after the terrible three week bout with the flu last year. Suddenly, my trust in vaccines was shattered, leaving me feeling vulnerable. But, it is the best hope I have. Maybe I will become a hermit. I could wear a mask all the time when out. ??? I will definitely keep my hands off my face.
Any other tips to avoiding the flu? Anything else I can eat, drink, or avoid? I know good nutrition is important. However, I am looking for a sure-fire bit of magic.
Friday was a day of exhaustion and pain, all stemming from Wednesday stress.
Saturday, more exhaustion and pain. I stayed in bed most of day from noon to about 10 pm, got up often to go to bathroom, ate once, and passed out in pain.
Cannot find my glasses, so no telling what I have typed.

Yes, I think the best things you can do to avoid the flu is to keep your hands away from your face, and wash you hands constantly. Last year the flu was terrible. Maybe it won't be as bad this year.
ReplyDeleteAnd it sounds as if you are in so much pain! Nothing can keep a person down for the count as fast as trying to deal with unrelenting pain. I hope the pain goes away and you feel better soon.
tana59,
DeleteI have the worst habit of putting my hands on my face. I may wear gloves and makeup when out. I am less likely to touch my face if I have makeup. And, gloves keep me from touching makeup! I know it sounds silly.
The pain is unrelenting, that one thing is for sure. Thanks.
The elderberry syrup was all the rage last winter. I took some about once a week and didn't end up sick. Maybe you could try that? I need to get my flu shot soon too.
ReplyDeleteBelinda,
DeleteI will have to see about elderberry syrup. I have never done anything at all and did not get the flu. I wish I could get that back.
I think if you had flu last year, you shouldn't get it again in a hurry. That's my theory anyway. Keeping your hands away from your face is another good idea and apparently, the Asian mania for face masks really works!
ReplyDeleteHang in there!
kylie,
ReplyDeleteYou can get the flu twice in one year, so I am not so sure. Really, I should keep my hands off my face! I would wear a face mask if I would be able to breath. I get heated in those things.
I can only suggest good hand washing, and regular changing of bed linens. I change ours at least twice a week, the kids' once a week. If anyone has a cold/runny nose, or has been sick, they get changed more often. (Well, I don't really change them, they go back on the bed once dried.) I also disinfect bathroom and kitchen counters daily, more during flu season. Growing up, my parents told us to get plenty of exercise, drink plenty of water and go to bed early to stay healthy. I still live by that mantra. Personally, I refuse to get a flu shot, but DH and the kids choose to get them. I refuse, because the one year I got the flu shot, I became sicker than ever. I doubt it was connected to the shot, as it was a stomach bug I got, but there it is.
ReplyDeleteI understand being gun shy after getting so ill. I don't go to bed early but I can sleep later. I only decided to get a flu vaccine once I reached 60 or whatever the magic number is when older people are more vulnerable. But, before that I had never had a flu vaccine.
ReplyDeleteAll already good suggestions, I second the one about hydration and proper rest. I also make sure that I am well stocked on bone broth, vitamins B, C and B. I did not get last 2 winters, but I did get a summer cold - I let my guard down about washing my hands. Hope you feel better soon. I know how difficult chronic pain is.
ReplyDeleteVitamins B, C and D I meant to say.
DeleteNawm,
DeleteThanks, I will get an early start on medicating myself!
