Help! Gift idea + Dish to Share ???

Tuesday, I have a Christmas party that requires not only a dish, but a gift of not more than $5. I still don't know what I will take, what dish.

For the gift I have a 1 lb. Dak ham and one pound of pinto beans. That is my gift. Everybody eats and no one needs another piece of junk that I would have to buy. AND, all these people have diabetes, so a $4.99 box of Whitman's candy, while very appropriate for a Christmas exchange, is not exactly appropriate for these people. I bought the DAK ham with a coupon, so the dried beans and the little canned ham are a $5 gift. It won't sit around the house to be trashed one day. I thought about a Christmas mug filled with candy. But, no.

I have everything here for 1) green bean casserole, 2) jello with fruit cocktail, apples, and bananas, 3) pimiento and cheese and crackers, 4) sliced cheese and crackers,5) Halos, 6) bowl of Kisses. Even though these people have diabetes, they bring things none of us should eat! Okay, my choice--a bowl of Halos. What do you think? I could toss a few Kisses on the top. Better? Or, I could slice another DAK ham and slice it and top it with glaze and bake it.

Halos or ham? Price is same.

  1. I like the idea of bringing Halos. Fresh fruit will taste might good if it is a coldish day.

  4. Pimento cheese ball and cut up veggies or crackers with less carbs?? I'm not a fruit eater- I know- so the Halos wouldn't tempt me at all. I love cheese balls. I make a simple one with softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar and a dash of hot sauce- sometimes I grate some onion- and I pat with chopped pecans.

    1. Nan,
That sounds great, but it would mean stirring, and I feel terrible. Besides, I would have to make purchases because I have none of those ingredients! I really don't need to be stirring the germs of whatever is wrong with me into a ball. Believe me, this will be a carbfest! And, I can manage to wipe away what the nasty woman who puts her hands in ALL the food leaves behind. Oh, I do have crackers. I love fruit. Thanks!

  5. I always prefer fruit over cheese and crackers, etc. Many people think of cheese and crackers, etc. but I usually bring fruit salad or something like that.

    1. Ha! This reply was not here ten seconds ago. Fruit it is. I am looking at simple, what I like, and what the nasty woman cannot pollute. Here in the South, the jello and fruit would work well.
