Pizza Deal; Celery Deal; Tomato Deal

It was very late and I gave in to my urge for pizza that had continued unabated for weeks. As I headed home from WM, I decided to stop in and get a pizza. Since all the lights were on, including the drive up window light, I thought they were open.

Well, no they were not open. The guy unlocked the window and told me they were closed and about to go out the door. I asked if he did not have even one pizza. "Well, we have one large pepperoni pizza that is cold and not very good." "How much does a cold and not very good pizza cost."  "$2."

I never ever eat pepperoni since I am allergic to pepperoni. I thought I would do like everyone suggests and just pick the pepperoni off. By the way, I never do that. Now, I know why. I had a bad reaction to the pizza even with the pepperoni picked off and tossed.

Now, there are three packages of pizza in the freezer for exbf. Boo! I still want a Dominos pizza. What I had was just a poor substitute that leaves me still unsatisfied.

Why do people think picking out the part to which you are allergic will work? No, it does not.

Celery is $0.50/head. A pint of grape tomatoes is $0.98/pt. I bought seven pints of tomatoes and five of celery. Both are destined for the dehydrator.

Your turn
Have you found any pizza deals after hours? Do people ever suggest picking out things that you are allergic to as though nothing will be left behind that affects you adversely? Are there any celery or grape tomato deals in your area? What are the deals where you live?

  1. Pizza - pepperoni or otherwise - is off the menu for some time now. Oh the pain. It is lovely.

    1. Urspo,
It was delicious and doubly so since it was so cheap. I don't think I had had pizza in a year.

  2. We don't do pizza much any more. I usually will make it from scratch if we do.

When my son was at home, I used to fix him English muffin pizzas and he liked them pretty well. He would take them for school lunches with an apple and his milk from home.

    1. Janet,
I don't either, but I had this craving. That sounds like a healthy lunch that would not pass muster these days. When I put spaghetti sauce on toast, topped with cheese, I suppose I do have "pizza."

  3. I have been craving pizza too. We had it a couple of weeks ago at friends house, but I'm still craving it. Guess I will have to make homemade to satisfy the craving. I haven't been making my homemade because the mushrooms I can get here at the little grocery store are awful! All black inside, even though they are supposedly fresh.

  4. One,
Yuck! I would not want less than perfect mushrooms. When I went to visit my daughter in NYC, they had some sort of tomato based sauce every meal it seemed. Well, not breakfast. After a month I came home and craved spaghetti/sauce every day. I need to start making pizza.

  5. I am intolerant to gluten. It's a real medical condition called celiac disease. People often say to just take the bun off the hamburger and eat it that way when I send back a hamburger patty, because they forgot to leave off the bun, or "just eat the pie down to the crust". If I just eat a tiny bit of residue gluten I get a very bad reaction. People often want to trivialize a very serious problem.

    1. carole,
It is difficult for anyone not familiar with allergies to come to terms with how dangerous allergies can be. People tell me to take the pickle off the sandwich...same thing. Sometimes, I think people think having allergies is a personal choice!

  6. The pizza muffin probably wouldn't pass, but he wouldn't eat school lunches even in the first grade and he despised "sandwiches." What's a mom to do? It wasn't easy. I bought some food thermoses and even gave him left overs at times. It seems he had lot of "trading" material in those days. lol

    1. Janet,
Probably not. Like I said, mothers know what the child will and will not eat. Unfortunately, a bologna sandwich passed my child's inspection. I don't call that nutritious. I am quite sure I never heard of some of the trades my children made!

  7. Linda,
Do you have Trader Joe's? They have a pizza crust made from cauliflower that is $4 and makes 2-4 meals. Add cheap sauce and cheese and it is a wonderful treat, free of allergies.

    1. Patti,
I don't have on in this town, probably in Huntsville or Birmingham. I will check that out. I wonder if I could make a cauliflower crust. I am going to B'ham next week. Maybe I can go visit one there. Thanks for the tip.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
