Are Old People Sleeping Wrong?

This is sort of the title of a very interesting concepts. We have historically slept in two shifts each night. I have a friend who really worries about his sleeping habits. Maybe all of us who get up in the middle of the night are sleeping like our ancestors did.

Now, I did not always get up for a bit in the middle of the might. I don't always now. A blogger has a great POST about sleep.

Your turn
How do you sleep? Straight through? Two sleep shifts? Nap in the afternoon?

  2. I never nap but I have weird sleeping habits- I am usually up by 4-5 AM so therefore I'm ready for bed at 8 PM. I've been know to go earlier than that also but I do read in bed for at least 30 minutes. I pretty much seep through though and rarely have to get up for the bathroom but I eat dinner early and st drinking liquids before 6 PM. I much prefer it when we are on NOT on daylight saving time.

    1. NAN,
I have heard about people like you who wake up so early...lol. Some days, it is 4-5 am before I can get to sleep. I think it is the different Melatonin I am taking. I like DST and wish we had it all year long. I drink too late and I am sure that is part of the problem, but not all of the problem. Even when I have nothing to drink, I still wake up at least 2 hours after going to sleep.

  3. I sleep in snatches. I don't remember the last time I slept more than three hours without waking. Sometimes I get up, sometimes I just lie quietly.

    1. EC,
Sometimes, I have nights like that. I cannot say I do anything regularly, unfortunately. If I sleep only three hours, I have to at least go to the bathroom even if it is not what woke me.

  4. I also used to sleep right through eight or even up to ten hours if I was very tired. These days I always wake up for the toilet although if I'm lucky I may not wake for six hours which most people would consider the whole night.
Sometimes I am awake for a long time in the early hours which would be the ancestors way of doing it but i don't ever get up and do things except go to the bathroom. I have never had cups of tea in the night or things like that.
who knew there would be so much to say about sleep

    1. Several weeks back, I did sleep for six hours straight. However, I was sleeping as I felt awful. About 12 hours sleep made me feel better. There is much, much more about sleep.

  5. Yet another topic that my husband and I have recently been researching. This is getting weird... ha!

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
