Have you ever had Thanksgiving company behave so ludicrously? What is your best worst Thanksgiving tale? Or, a funny story.

  1. Not Thanksgiving (of course being in France) but my ex and I had been living apart for about 10 months when he decided living with his gf wasn't doing it for him, so he got himself a beautiful rental. We were still legally married at that point so he wanted to come over and pick up some of his stuff. When he left I found out he'd taken every single roll of toilet paper in the house!

    1. Treaders,
I had a friend move out. She took my clothes that she wanted. Did he even leave a roll for you that was already installed? I suppose that divorcing him was the right decision...lol.

  2. My MIL and FIL were terrible house guests. They owned a succession of poorly trained, neurotic dogs they insisted on bringing when they visited. One time they brought a horrible rescue dog with separation anxiety. We went out to dinner and they shut him in the guest room. After they left I found that the dog had scratched the hell out of the back of the bedroom door. They did not tell us about the damage. And my next door neighbor (a lovely woman and good friend) mentioned that the neighborhood had heard insane howling from the upstairs the entire time we were gone. They were immediately banned from bringing any dog to our house ever again.

My FIL liked a big (2 cups worth) glass of OJ at night in bed, to sip while he read. He knocked it over one night but he (nor MIL) never mentioned it. While stripping the bed after they left I discovered dried OJ on the sheets, the nightstand, and the wall. The carpet was soaked and the wooden legs of the nighstand were swollen & discolored from absorbing the OJ.

They don't occupy a loving space in my memories.

    1. Dagmar,
How horrible! Everyone has good dogs until they are not. The oj story is so annoying. People should own up to what they did instead of letting me find it later. Those in-laws would be banned. Did you ever confront them about the oj? What did husband think of parent's actions.

    2. I did confront FIL about the OJ. He got very angry and blustery and defensive. I just said, "Hey, I know accidents happen. Just let me know when it does so I can clean it up right away."

DH knew his parents were a huge PITA. He also appreciated the fact that I was a good DIL and rose above many annoying situations. He is the one who issued the dog ban. But had he not, he would have been occupying a dog house in the back yard. ;^) ;^)

Oh, and NOBODY has good dogs. Ever!

    3. Sue,
But, everyone says "my dog is good" like the people who want exemptions for their children to attend events because "my children will be good."

  3. Oopsie, that comment about MIL and FIL was from me, Sue. I accidentally signed into DD's old account on my computer.

    1. Sue,
Oh, okay. I wondered. I have a question for you. What is the name of the book you recommended for buying a car? We are obviously going to buy a new car. newish

    2. Linda, we never purchase a vehicle until we have thoroughly read the "Consumer Reports Annual New & Used Auto Issue: Best and Worst Cars, Trucks, and SUVs." The most recent magazine edition is April 2023.

Copies still should be available at chain bookstores like Barnes & Nobles. You can order it online (although it will take 3-4 weeks for delivery):

      https://www.consumerreports.org/cr-store/#:~:text=Take%20CR's%20trusted%20ratings%20with,now%20a%20digital%20edition%20only).

An online version might be available for 2023, but I am not sure. I keep reading that CR will only publish an online version in 2024 and beyond.

      Hope this helps!

    3. Sue,
You will not believe the trouble we have had. It seems the book you mentioned had specs, too. Maybe this one is the same. We do need help. I have never read up on a car; yet, I have never bought a lemon or a car that gave me trouble.

  4. I really only have one bad Thanksgiving at my inlaw's, due to one of my dh's brothers. DH and siblings were all adults by then. Dinner was always mid afternoon. Brother and his wife, who had come in from out of state, went to a football game, while we all sat around and waited and waited for them to show up, so we could eat. The food was ready but his mom kept insisting on waiting on them. Everyone was getting annoyed and they finally showed up, like a couple hours past dinner time (we had all been there like since a couple of hours before dinner time). Of course dh, who almost always speaks his mind, made a comment something to the effect that that was a bit selfish of them, considering the rest of us and our families had been waiting on them and a big argument ensued between dh and his brother.

    1. One,
Whether I am serving or attending a dinner, I expect the meal to be served withing 30 minutes of the appointed time. Good for your husband for speaking up.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
