Makeup for Reunion

foundation and lipstick

Even though I am not Black, I looked for foundation that a Black person would use. Yeah, you want to know why. I have a whitish spot above each eyelid. Each is cholesterol, but my cholesterol was not high the last time it was checked. And, my arteries are clear.

So, the foundation will go only on those two spots. I hope it works out. My lids are darker than most people's lids. So, it seems to work to cover the white spots.

This summer, I bought the first coral item of clothing that I have had since the 60s. I flat refused to buy coral lipstick for one blouse.

You must know by now that I was digging in the reduced makeup bin. I was. Each of these cost $0.25. I'm not even wearing the coral blouse for the reunion, but I have coral lipstick for next year.

We have reunions every five years. So, every five years I buy a  bottle of foundation. In the 5-year interim I might use foundation five times. So, I throw out the last bottle I bought and buy a new one. Well, I am just so smart and independent. I refused to be forced by societal expectations to wear makeup for the 45th. I put on a bit of lipstick. Well, I am so washed out in the official picture of our class and in the photos on our website.

Not this year! My goal has been to find foundation and other makeup that looks good and is not apparent. I suppose that sounds counterproductive.

A makeup story--in seventh grade the other girls were commenting on my wearing eye shadow and I felt shamed. No, actually, the girls were shaming me without asking if I had on eye shadow on. This went on for several weeks until they finally believed m. In 1957, only hookers wore eye shadow in the daytime.

Your turn,
Do you wear makeup? What do you use--lipstick only like I do? Full makeup? How old were you when your mother allowed you to wear makeup? Do you hate mascara as much as I do.

  1. I wear mascara and brow pencil if I go out anywhere except the yard otherwise you can only see the iris of my eyes. I always wear sunscreen when I'm outside and lipbalm or lip glass with an SPF of 15 or hgher.

    1. Bellen,
My daughter said if she had to choose one product, it would be mascara. I have allergies, so I always make a mess of it and get it in my eyes, hence to hate. You must be fair complexioned. My iris was black until a few years ago. Of course, my lashes and brows are still black.

I am always reaching for lip balm with spf of 15 year round.

  2. I wear makeup pretty much everyday I go to work or out. I find that I feel better and look much nicer with it on. After all these years, it doesnt take long to do, and I am much more put together

    1. longtime wife,
My fairer friends think I wear makeup. I feel constrained in foundation and all the rest, not put together at all.

  3. tlc,
I would have thought that with your job you would have worn makeup every day. But, I imagine you look quite nice. I will be using eyeliner for the first time in about 15 years. But, it is soft and is screwed up, not a hard pencil to sharpen. I did chance using the eyeliner last week, and a friend told me that the eyeliner look great, that she like the way I applied it. I will go look.

  4. I don't wear make up at all. I just don't like it. My mom let me wear make up in the 7th grade. I just didn't like it. By high school, I only put it on for dances. As an adult, I don't even have any.
That's probably why I have all boys :)

    1. Michelle,
LOL..so that is how you make boys. Maybe they will not have unrealistic expectations about women wearing makeup. Never wearing it is the reason I have to buy it special. I only got to wear lipstick in the 8th grade. That is the year I decided I would wear straight skirts and amazingly got no argument from my mother.

Okay, today, I finished buying what I need--blue and brown liners for lower lid, one liner and shadow crayon for top lid, eyebrow stuff, foundation. I am not buying new lipstick or blush. AND, I can apply it like I did this all the time.

      I don't like makeup either!

  5. I do not wear make-up every day. I use a pencil eye liner and some mascara when I go out with friends. I hate taking make-up off. I could never properly put on a full make-up since when I look in the mirror, I see someone else. I love lipstick but my front teeth prevent me wearing it. It always smudges on my front teeth. My favorite lip product is Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick. Whenever I wear it, I receive compliments. Mom allowed me to wear make-up for very special occasions when I was at tenth grade but I never really cared for it. Mom and sis are like that too. So, it is a family thing and mom thinks she is already beautiful without make-up! :) She has such self-confidence...

I looked up that lipstick by typing in the name. AND, it is on sale somewhere. I got lipstick on my teeth until I started using Revlon. I also think it was the way I was applying it. I thought my mother was beautiful without makeup, but she only wore it to church or some other occasions. She did not have time in her harried days to wear it even if she had wanted to wear it more. I am so glad your mother had such self-confidence that we all should have...sigh.

  6. Great finds on the makeup!!!!!!!
I wear eyeliner and mascara if I go out of the house. On rare occasions, I "paint" my face for a big party or something. MY dad called it paint or war paint. LOL

    1. Mascara is my daughter's "one thing" she must have, but wears it all.

  7. Back home, I wore makeup at work, then after retirement, because it was impossible to go shopping without running into someone I knew. Now? No makeup. It makes me feel hot and sweaty. When I do add mascara and light lipstick, Joe comments on how it "enhances" my features. Which I translate to mean: "My god woman, wear makeup!" lol

  8. I wear it for special occasions. I usually use a spot concealer, the most natural shade of matte pink lipstick that I can find, and eyeliner. These days I find that I'm very prone to flushed cheeks. (I'm almost 37, so it's not menopause yet. I'm not sure what that's about, but it renders blush pointless.)

I have quite sensitive eyes, so I've found that it's better for me to avoid eyeshadow unless I want to be rubbing my eyes all night, and I've never liked the way mascara feels, so I skip it, too.

I don't wear it everyday because I work in the office of a sawmill, and I'm the only female employee. All it would do is act like a glue to keep the very fine dust particles that are always in the air glued to my skin!

    1. jessnhalinda,
Maybe you have rosacea. I think that is how it is spelled. I suppose I have sensitive eyes even when not having allergy problems.

I have another thought on the foundation--it might protect your skin from wood particles. You can take off the foundation and the dust particles. But, I would probably forgo it too.

  9. If I leave the house I have on makeup. I have 2 distinct makeup routines though. One is the light day to day makeup and the other is the full blown night routine. The day to day is moisturizer, cc cream, cream blush, lip stick, under eye concealer and eyeliner. ( I have dark blonde eyelashes but hate mascara for daily use. I wear the light brown eyeliner so I don't look like Little Orphan Annie. For evenings out I pretty much change to Bare Minerals foundation and blush and add mascara and a bit of eyeshadow.

    1. Anne,
Thanks for the two makeup routines. I refuse to wear mascara for anything. Maybe the new stuff is better than it was 50 years ago. Maybe? I am going all out for the reunion, which is still pretty lightweight. I put lipstick on for my bare daytime look!

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
