Bonanza in the Grocery Cart

five 12 packs for $1.00

These are practically free Cokes. I used the 3 coupons for $3 off, $9 off my total. Then, an employee in Walmart showed me the Target ad in the top right corner of the Target paper.

5 for $10

The employee was helping me by putting these in the electric cart, so you can barely see the two regular Cokes. See the red strip of the carton below the ad and above the three coupons?

The original price was 5 x $4.98=$24.90.

The 5 Cokes rang up at $10 per the Target ad after the WM Price Match, and then I  had the coupons applied. My total was $1.  I was so pleased and the employees were extremely happy for me.

I figured it up with my trusty calculator. I paid $0.0415 for each can. Let's make that a nickel per can.

4 cents for each can of Coke

I saved 96%. My personal best is 97%. But, I am not complaining. Since I could not afford anything else at the store Wednesday night, I could only get this. I did not buy only the Cokes to be able to report and high percentage of savings.

Savings= 96%

Lest you think I drink more Coke than I do, the last Cokes I bought are not gone. I called exbf and asked him what he wanted--Diet Coke. He hates my Caffeine Free Diet Cokes. I do not believe that he can tell there is no caffeine by taste. That's okay because he won't drink my Caffeine Free Diet Cokes. Oh, I would share.

So, that was my thrill for Wednesday night.

Your turn
Do you drink Coke products? They are cheap at Target. And, if you have coupons, now is the time to use them. Do you work the mycokerewards.com for Coke rewards? Have you gotten a 96% savings on anything at the grocery?

  1. I don't drink many coke products, although your post brought back a memory.

My father, who used to bring us to his electronics shop every blue moon, had a coke machine that he set to the perfect temperature for cokes in a bottle.

We'd be treated, while there, and relish a 6 ounce coke in a returnable bottle; made with cane syrup and at the perfect temperature of 34 degrees Fahrenheit.

    1. Jess,
I do remember the 6 oz Cokes. They were a treasure, rarely had. We children did have to half those. Mama poured each of us half a 6 oz Coke and were were in Heaven. And, they were returnable bottles! Those were good days. Nowadays, they try to save electricity and the Cokes are never cold enough. I have good childhood memories about Coke as well. Thanks for the memory.

  2. I don't think I've had a Coke for at least 10 years...maybe even 15!

    1. Lynda,
I am still a devotee...lol. That is a good habit to drop.

  3. Husband drinks too much Coke. Here in Western Australia the cheapest that I have ever been able to buy boxes of cans works out at 57cents can and he says that is cheap. Other cans I can sometimes get for $3.99 a box of 10. We don't have coupons over here and it seems like you can get you some really cheap stuff but do they ever have them for healthy foods? Enjoy your bargain.

    1. Barb,
When you tell him of my find, tell me what he says. Those are expensive Cokes! Yes, I do find coupons for healthy food. Cokes are a mental health habit.

  4. I'd say I coke is ALL I drink. However, I do have an occasional glass of chocolate milk. I buy them by the 2 ltr. and fill a 20 oz. bottle to carry with me.

Most of the time I can get them on sale for $1 between 3 stores. A local IGA, Food Lion or Walmart.

  5. Mike,
Even though I have lots of Coke, I rarely drink more than one a day. However, if I had my druthers, I would consume lots of chocolate milk. I drink water, unadorned iced tea, milk, oj, and Diet Coke Caffeine Free. For the 2 ltr., $1 is the best price.

    1. Patti,
It's any Coke product. Sprite and Fanta have the codes as well as packs of Dasani water.

    1. Lena,
That was my thought, too! If I were to need to contribute to any event, I might take Cokes.

  8. That is a really impressive saving. I don't like Coke though. Mostly I drink water and tea.

  9. I am moving away from drinking any soda, but that sure is a bargain I can appreciate and I'd buy it for that price too! Nice job.

  10. I used to drink Diet Coke but you know me ... these days it is too much red wine! Didn't I read somewhere that it was supposed to be good for the heart?

    1. Janet,
I guess we all choose our poison. Yes, it is supposed to be good for the heart. But, I think that over a certain amount, nothing good comes of the excess wine. If I gave up Coke for wine, I would probably go to sleep before I could drink too much for my health. I still have the bottle of wine I bought in Dec 2012. Maybe I could use that in the salad dressing. ???

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
