Streptococccal Sore Throat and Allergies

That is what the doctor said: Strep throat and severe allergy problem.

The nurse gave me an antibiotic injection called something like rociferin (sp?) and a prednisone/cortisone injection. Both hips hurt now. Then, I got a prescription for Cefdinir (some antibiotic) and 3 Prednisone tablets. Plus, I am to take Guaifenisin, pseudoephedrine, aspirin, and a antihistamine. When I do that, I am going to bed.  Maybe these spellings are wrong.

Snowbrush, I meant to write and say that a fever can occur with allergies AND accompanying inflammation and infection. When I have hives, I run a fever. At the first contact with anything I am allergic to, my temperature rises.

My life is defined by allergies. I would have been a geologist if not for allergies. What a rock was, how old, and why were burning questions when I was thirteen-years-old. I thought about being an anthropologist, not only digging up bones, but studying the bone, but again, dirt and dust thoughts stopped me. I was very young. Since I loved literature, words, and grammar, being an English major suited me just fine. But, books make their own dust. Old books are practically lethal to me. Since socio-linguistics very much interests me, I could have been happy studying Anthropology of Linguistics. Now that I am older, I see more opportunities I could have had.

I am going to bed for a while.

When I talk to exbf, I will tell him not to come tomorrow. I need him but don't want him to become ill with strep throat. sigh....I need him. Tomorrow is the only day he can come until next week.

Your turn
Did allergies or some other real health problem help set the course of your life?

    2. Linda, Linda, Linda, don't you know what he really means? Coffey is the dirtiest old man in town, and I love him for it.

  3. Rociferin and a prednisone/cortisone injection is the perfect way to go. Both will go to work instantly. Both hips hurt now: Boy do they after a cortisone shot. Guaifenisin: If it's over the counter, ignore the directions and take a full capful. I empty about two bottles a week when my chest is congested. Pseudoephedrine will speed up your heart, so watch it.

    1. lotta,
I take the tablets. The generic call for a lower dose than the Mucinex. I cannot find the bottle. One more search and I will just go buy more! I am really wheezing lots.

Yes, that cortisone shot felt like fire going in. But, it was not so bad I would not go do it again in a heartbeat.

I take the psudoephedrine all the time and never have been bothered by it much. I am quite sure that all this coughing is making my heart beatfaster and blood pressure go up. It was only 120/62. The bottom seems high. And, I had been fruitlessly coughing for an hour before my blood pressure was taken.

    1. Janie,
I am glad that you consider the altered course as better. I have no regret about my field of study, just wish my allergies reactions were not so virulent. Thanks.

    1. Thanks. It is almost midnight, and I feel so much better. Throat is barely sore; face does not hurt; cough is less and still not productive; dizziness is almost gone; fever is low; joints don't hurt. I think the Midnight Truffle Blizzard did the trick...lol.

  7. I hope you feel better soon! A few of my coworkers have had the cortisone shots, and they've said they helped a lot.

As a childhood asthmatic, my parents were always reluctant to let me me get winded, so I ended up being quite nonathletic. It took finding hatha yoga for me to start exercising at all.

    1. Jessmhalinda,
My daughter had asthma. I encouraged her to be active, very active, but under the right circumstances--in cold weather and snow and freezes, tennis, swim team, skating. She just could not be out on beautiful fall days and glorious spring days. She excelled at swimming, danced tap, and loved to ride her bike. She exercises now, but as a child I helped her to become more alert to her health issues so she could alert me or now, take the steps to not get worse.

I am glad you at last are exercising.

  8. My son has severe allergies to all weeds, grasses and almost all the trees the allergist tested him for. HIs throat felt tight and said he had a hard time breathing- he didn't tell any adults at the time, but did tell one of his older brothers who did get an adult. He now gets allergy shots. So far, he hasn't had any severe breathing problems. Crazy; especially for a kid that practically lives outside.
I hope that you feel better tomorrow and are able to get a good nights rest tonite.

    1. Michelle,
The allergist when I was young said I was not meant to live in this world because I was allergic to almost all things that grew outdoors, had contact dermatitis, and food allergies to everything except beets and lettuce.

Midnight and I feel much better!

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
