$10 Reward Card + $0.17 = Dinner

$10.00

I am always surprised when one of these $10 reward cards arrives. Yes, $10 worth of free food at KFC. It takes a long time to buy $75 worth of KFC  because I don't go there often. I just talk about wanting it.

This is how I quit frying chicken and lost 46 lbs in 3 months many years ago. I would fry three large chicken breasts and eat them in two days. Of course, I made too much mashed potatoes and gravy and ate that for breakfast. There is no way to fry one piece of chicken and I was not craving baked chicken without the sides. I was cooking as though there were a family still here and was beginning to look like a family inside my clothes. EDIT: I ate at KFC one a month to get my fried chicken fix back then. So, no judging my choice here.

Now, I still eat KFC about every six weeks unless there are extenuating circumstances, like the 1/2 birthday reward card I received a few weeks before this. And, the points on food I pay for or someone else pays for on my card add up for free KFC.

Last Friday night, I decided this card was dinner. I had to spend all $10 worth or lose the rest. When I had ordered what I wanted without thought of the cost, I was happy. I spent $10.17. Dinner cost me one dime+one nickel+two pennies--$0.17. I can deal with that. I would have taken off a side if it kept the cost right at $10.

Usually, I get two breasts and take one home. This time--no.

My tray-- one breast (original), one biscuit, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, another little side of gravy, slaw, and macaroni and cheese.  I ate part of it and brought the rest home for another meal. The biscuit was a snack much later. The hens even had their share--all the skin and bones not picked clean. They were excited the next morning. That was a good $0.17 I spent.

The one good thing was they were a little skimpy with the mac and cheese. but, at least they helped me not to eat much...lol. But, I practically licked the gravy bowl clean.

I wish I had gravy right now. At least I could swallow it. Nothing will go down as I start coughing and I choke. I choked on one bite of chicken. I choked on bagel. So, I had two scrambled eggs. Last night, I had two scrambled eggs for dinner and cooked another two for today. At least I didn't choke.

No proofing, so deal with it...lol.

Your turn
I probably have asked before, but does you KFC offer this reward to frequent fryers? Have you checked it out? Okay, if you don't eat KFC, never mind.

  1. That was a very good deal for you and for the chickens. Win/win. I don't know whether KFC offers it here. I am vegetarian and my partner might eat KFC once every three or four years.

So, this is of no use to you all...lol. Thanks for the comment.

  3. I love, Love, LOVE KFC. However, we only eat there about once a quarter, but I always enjoy it when we do. No such rewards program that I am aware of in our corner of the world, and it is probably for the best. It would only enable me to find more excuses to eat there more often.

    1. Janelle B,
I also get a free meal on my birthday. On my 1/2 birthday, six months after my birthday, I get some sort of deal, too. I just don't need anymore excuses to eat there, either.

Last Friday night, I was in a slump, probably from the strep throat infection coming on. So, the was a good time to use it. I usually use this when exbf is here. We can both eat a meal for just a dollar or so extra. Once, he got the chicken pot pie, so that was good for the cost. I felt bad about him just having that, but he said it was what he wanted. ???? Why would anyone eat a pot pie instead of greasy chicken...lol.

  4. I love fried chicken. I like two breast and a couple of leg on either side. Then, afterward, I like to eat some chicken.

    1. Coffeypot,
You made me laugh so hard that I could barely quit coughing. Okay, what can I say?

  5. An interesting snippet about KFC. Years back I had a friend who worked there. He, and his cat, lived on it. Three years later he moved, and gave his cat to me, where she didn't get KFC. Very, very rapidly she went from being a cat called Zero, to Zerox the reproducing machine. No kittens while on a diet of KFC, despite being an adult. Cat food? She bred - until I could afford the final snip.

    1. EC,
How interesting? Do you think she had a male companion when she lived with him? I wonder if science could use this information to better the world.

    2. There were certainly cats in the neighbourhood - and he only lived a block away from me. We always said that KFC was the perfect cat contraceptive. And, come to think of it, none of the humans reproduced either. And KFC was pretty much all they ate.

  6. EC,
Wow, that is a powerful indictment against KFC. Well, I cannot reproduce ever again, but I wonder what systems I really want to function could be messed up if I indulged more often. I cannot imagine eating only KFC. Although it is probably addictive so a person would not think logically after a bit.

  7. I enjoy the occassional KFC for lunch. I'm a small eater, so I'm happy with a drumstick, biscuit, mashed potaotoes and gravy, & Pepsi for about $3.50.

That IS a small eater! I forgot to say I get a senior drink that is free. I always get unsweetened tea.

  8. John LOVES KFC but each and every time he eats it he becomes sick. I think it is from a grease overload. Of course if he didn't eat so many pieces he probably would be okay. I think he gets KFC when I am out of town. I know that he orders pizza and cooks Spam while I'm gone.

Do you have Church's Chicken where you live? There are a few Church's in San Diego but none are within 25 miles of us. I learned to enjoy Church's way back 45+ years ago when I was living in Louisiana. I love it that they offer fried okra. That is one thing that you NEVER see on a menu out here in the land of Kale and Tofu!

  9. I'm not a KFC fan :-( both my parents were and every time they came down here I had to beg not to eat the stuff though we usually got it at least 1 meal every 2nd or 3rd trip. taste-wise I love Popeyes - just not the price for what I get. really bummed I went there after work last week and got the 3 wing combo with biscuit and mashed taters/gravy - no drink - and it was around $6.50 and the wings were LITTLE - tiny would probably have fit across my open hand for all 3. at least KFC gave us bigger pieces. We also have church's here but haven't eaten there n years - probably over 20 yrs - not the best location and hard to to their drive thru at the nearer location. I usually do chick fil a - they're a bit pricey but other places are about the same now (quarter pound combo at mcdonadl's was about the same price as combo at chick fil a) and I get coupons at my nearby grocery store on the back of the register receipt and found out it's a great deal for sandwich fries and drink - $4.17 for diet lemonade large drink, large fries, and sandwich! will space out the trips so I don't burn out.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
