"You are NOT starving"

One good thing about having a blog--I can save things, articles I want to read again...if the link stays good. You are not starving, so quit eating junk when you think you are starving.

Have you ever eaten junk food saying to yourself or aloud that you are starving? Or are you like me and xometimes eat too much nutritious food because you are starving?

  1. I may not be starving but I can still enjoy some junk food - or comfort food every now and again. I am a firm believer in both moderation and pleasure. If you eat sensibly (lots of fruit & veg and moderate portions) 80% of the time then I think you can afford to indulge every now and again.
There is a big difference in someone who eats doughnuts every day, or has a bottle of coke & a bag of chips every evening - or who visits KFC or Micky D 3 or 4 times a week and someone who enjoys these treats every now and again.
The problem is that we've forgotten the meaning of "a treat" - something special we have now and again - as opposed to something we expect to consume on a daily basis.
I think very few of us in the Western World are starving in the true sense of the word (apart from some homeless or very low income souls) - but we are often starved of nutrition because of the easy access to junk food. There are too many folks out there with no medical degrees who are proponents of some very spurious practices (I'm thinking of Gwyneth Paltrow as one) because they have a book to sell or a blog to promote. If there is one person out there without a medical degree that I listen to it's Michael Pollen - "Eat Food - Not too Much - Mostly Plants". I highly recommend checking him out.

  3. When I do my grocery order every two weeks, the last item on my list is usually something that is considered junk food like Little Debbie Nutty Bars, my favorite. I have to laugh at the lady who calls to take my order, for she always asks me what I want for my treat. Guess she is getting to know me pretty well!!

    1. Vicki,
I would say she does know you pretty well. At least you do not have a list of treats for when you are starving. I love that you can call in your grocery order.

  4. I know what starving is; I have never experienced it. I won't use that word out of respect to those who have starvation.

    1. urspo,
That is a great thought. I will never use it again when I am just hungry. Thanks.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
