The Heat!

The heat is so oppressive, that I cannot keep it cool enough indoors. Consequently, my chest hurts from the effects of breathing in this atmosphere. My small window ac is failing. It is trying hard, but it is old!

It is too hot to cook more chicken, even in the crockpot. In the freezer is bbq chicken, waiting to heat tomorrow. I will make coleslaw and thaw corn I cut from the cob when I got Peaches and Cream corn last week. Exbf is coming tomorrow; we will go to free lunch; I will go to the doctor to learn results of a test. So, cooking dinner is the last thing I want to do!

Thankfully, I have a low-maintenance pet. Dominique does not require much.  She does not seem to suffer from the heat like all my other chickens. I never see her panting or letting her wings hang to cool her body.

I finished a post and with one keystroke wiped out two-thirds of it. I just have not felt up to finishing it. Losing a post just demoralizes me!

Okay, several goals today: find an inhaler, buy milk, get refund at WM, color my hair, feed Dominique. Maybe, I can do dishes. I will make tuna salad and eat with whatever greens are in the refrigerator.

What are you doing today? Are you doing it in oppressive heat?

  1. 94 here today. Our little a/c unit does ok until around dinner time/hottest part of the day and then it has trouble keep up. I need to start using my crockpot too!

  2. One,
Dinner is about time the heat is worst here, too. The sun sets on the den, bedroom and kitchen!

  3. I am so grateful it is winter here. Heat is not my friend - and I wouldn't/couldn't achieve a fraction of the things you have on your list for today.
    Stay as cool as possible.

    1. I intensely dislike winter clothing, so heat is better for wearing sandals...lol. I did get color on my hair and bathed. The rest involves going out of the house! Oh, found inhaler. I must go out whether I like it or not, at least to feed Dominique. I only have on a nightgown, but cannot wear it to the store.

  5. Around 94 at 2pm, I don't look after that. By noon I've closed the shades all around the house. For some reason a darker house makes it seems cooler. Unless absolutely necessary we do not go out of the house between 10 and 4. Just too hot. I've also found that the less stuff I have around me the cooler I feel, even if it's only in my head. So, I have a fairly large load of things to donate and a pretty full garbage can. Besides, I really don't need so much stuff. Less to clean, and more importantly, less to remember where it is.

    1. Bellen,
That is hot enough so you can imagine the rest of the day. Darker is cooler. No light bulbs or sun works. Maybe less stuff lowers your anxiety and blood pressure. Stressing over where it is would certainly heat me up.

  6. I just put wood on the fire so it burns overnight and keeps the house warm. I don't envy you having jobs to do when it's so hot. I much prefer Winter.

    1. I cannot even stand to think about heating my place right now. A fire? Whew! I do less when it is so muggy.

  7. I'm spoiled and have had central air conditioning in every home I've lived in since we bought our first in 1973. I really don't mind the heat as long as I know I have air at home and in the car. I just got back from dropping DD and GD off at the airport- boohoo. I probably won't see them in person until February when I visit. We had a great time and GD is so quick and well behaved- she was 3 in May. How often do you see your grandkids, Linda? My mom's mother (Granny Cec) lived about 5 minutes from our house so i saw her and Gramps often. He died when I was 14 and Granny died when I was married, in my 30's with 2 kids.

  8. I feel for all of you in the oppressive heat. It was 77 in my neck of the woods today, and I thought that was a tad too warm!

    1. Line,
It was 75 for the low one night here! It must be nice at night where you are.

  9. ugh! all you can do in the heat is wait for it to be over.
It is winter here but the forecast for Sunday is the hottest July day ever in Sydney 26 degrees C or 78 F.
It is a nice enough temperature but not exactly winter!

    1. kylie,
Well, you can try to do stuff and suffer...lol. This past winter we broke records day after day for high temps on that day. No one complained. I got to wear sandals almost every day this winter. The days I did not wear sandals were mostly soggy days, not cold days.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
