Windfall

A card came in the mail informing me my share of a class action suit had been mailed. ??? I know nothing of this class action and would not join. As far as I know, one must join the class action suit. At least that is what the information says that comes in the mail often.

Well, if they mailed me a check for $113.98, I really want it.  I don't even know what the case is about. However, the check is from a well-known entity.

I did call the telephone number on the card. Even though most checks are good for 90 days, this one is only good for 60 days. What is with that?

Have you ever joined a class-action suit? Get any money?

I could really use this money!

  1. I have joined several over the years and gotten small checks, but I've never gotten one for something I didn't sign up for. I'd google the class action lawsuit and see if it's legit. Might give you more of a clue if the check is real

    1. I did. It is. I had to send a statement saying I did not want to join. I did not get a check, but it is real. Still stymied.

  2. I've been in a few suits for products I have used. I've never got a check over $25 though!

  3. I have joined a few. The biggest was work related to unpaid OT. I knew about that because I was contacted by the labor board and an attorney. All the others have been small, and like Nan, never over $25.

    1. Line,
I am glad you got the unpaid OT! Maybe I will reply to the inquiries I do get from now on.

  4. I haven't joined one; they always sound like a scam.

    1. urspo,
Same here. I don't think I fit in the profile of complaints they want, but obviously that does not matter since I was included in this class action.

    2. I've heard tell - so take this with a grain of salt - the more people the attorneys can get in their suit the more money they can get. A token goes out to you; they get more profits. What little I may get doesn't feel good knowing I am contributing to abogados lining their pockets and making the sue-happy nation worse off.

    3. urspo,
It seems this was for people with a mortgage managed by some company, totally nothing to do with me. It felt like cheating.. If I got $113, I wonder how much the attorneys received. And, what if I don't even see the check, I wonder who gets my money. Lawyers?

  5. I have gotten quite a few. Nothing much but every little bit works for me. I also only do ones that I truly qualify for. I knew someone who sent in for anything she didn't have to have proof of purchase and I thought that was just wrong.

    1. Patti,
I have never applied for anything, ever. I think it is wrong to get money the way your friend gets money.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
