Cheese Clearance

Remember the clearance CRACKERS at Publix? Well, I found cheese on sale at Publix to go with the crackers. This is all in preparation for the eclipse road trip. Of course, I will eat one of the two packages and save the other package of cheese sticks for the trip.

The cheese, 10 sticks, 7.5 ounces, was 2/$4. Kraft Chunk cheese is the same price when the Kraft is reduced. I should have gotten more, but I am not a fan of sharp cheddar or white cheese. I can tolerate it.

The same type cheese in WM is twice the $2/pkg, selling for about $4 So, my savings was about 50% on the cheese.

I found this in the dairy section at Publix after I saw a customer buying it along with Honest products. If she had not had the Honest juice, I would never have noticed her other items on the belt at the register.

This clearance area is a new discovery for me. The clearance area at the front was the only clearance area in Publix I knew of until today. Maybe I need to ask if there are other clearance areas in Publix.

There is a man who always speaks to me and reminds me who he is. He always shakes my hand. It seems I was a substitute when his child was in class several times. This man always thanks me for being nice to his son. Today, he spoke at Publix and said really nice things about me in front of several employees. I can handle that.  I tried to be nice to students when I was a substitute.

Your turn
Do you ever find a regular shelf for clearance on dairy? Who loves cheese and crackers, especially when both are on sale? Maybe you are like me, a cheese lover?

  1. I love cheese and crackers. It is one my favorite evening snacks. I watch for sales on cheese too. Then I try to buy enough to last for a month. My Walgreens used to have a great clearance place. Now, they have clearance all over the store. I liked it better in one place.

    1. I remember eating cheese and crackers as a teen. I just loved it. I do try to buy enough to last about two or three months if it is one of the phenomenal sales. I will go for a so-so sales for a month's supply.

I do like sale items in one place!

  2. Yep, love cheese! I looks for all sales - there is usually a small place by each section. I eat almost any kind of cheese and goat cheese goes on sale most often. My mouth is watering - I need some cheese!

    1. Jennifer,
Goat cheese is like dessert for me. However, I rarely see sales of goat cheese. Maybe I need to look more closely. Now, I want goat cheese with orange and cranberry. Or, on a cucumber sandwich.

    1. tana50,
Most of the time, I try. Some days, it is luck. Thanks, I figure there will be more drunks out than on NYE!

  4. Love love cheese. My favorite is blue or Stilton but Stilton isn't available around here until it's cooler. Aldi's has a nice selection of cheeses and so does Costco (my sis is a member through her company but hates to shop there- too crowded). After I pay my house insurance and property taxes, I might make a trip to Trader Joe's and see what they have- it's about 40 minutes away. I sure wish we had a Sam's or Whole Foods close!!!

    1. nan,
Publix is a great place for cheese, but I rarely buy their cheeses. That is a long way to drive for groceries. I suppose you will buy enough to make it worth the trip.

  5. I think the clearance sales in various depts is the 'new' thing at groceries. Can't figure out why unless it's because it's less work. In any case, hubby loves cheese and will buy almost any kind on sale or clearance

Why don't you like white cheese? I've never detected a taste difference between say regular white cheddar and yellow cheddar, but that could be just me.

    1. bellen,
For one thing, they have to keep the cheese and other stuff refrigerated. However, one store has a cooler thing out in the aisle with all the refrigerated items there so you don't have to search the whole dairy dept. I don't know. I guess it does not look right to me...lol.

    2. Neighbor, whose nephew is a dept manager at a local grocery, told me they used to toss refreigerated & frozen food instead of putting it on clearance. Then, ta-DA, another manager decided if the boxed & bakery stuff sold on clearance, why not try refrigerated. Like marking down deli ribs and rotisserie chicken I guess. Good deals for us, so much better for the environment.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
