Tell me I am asleep and this is a nightmare, please!

I awoke with a terrible sore throat. It is 2:30 pm, and I have not spoken a word except to tell Patsy Cline and Thelma to "come here."  My head is so stopped up. Crap is sliding down my throat. My head is pounding. I can tell I have a slight temp because all my joints ache in a way that I recognize as feverish. My eyeballs feel hot. My face hurts. I was uncoordinated as I tried to untwist a twist tie and unwrap cheese. My chest is getting full of congestion. I am wheezing. This all happened within 6 hours I slept. Yes, I need a nap.

Okay, a thermometer is in my mouth.

What happened? Last night it rained all night. The ensuing humidity during the night did this to me. See why I don't camp? Cannot sleep with the windows open even on a hot night??? Even driving in the car with open windows brings on a fever.

My daughter has asthma and could never play outdoors before 10 am or after about 5 pm because of humidity. Of course, there were days this was cruel.

My temperature is elevated 2 degrees. Yuck. It is only 99 degrees, but still up 2 degrees from my normal of 97. That always caused doctors to say I was not running an elevated temp.

When I entertained every month for two years, we sat outdoors from 3 pm until sometimes 1 am. On those simple nights of pleasure, I awoke ill the next morning. This is not fun.

OTC medications and home remedies are in order to avoid a doctor visit and prescriptions that I will not want to take. And, I did not proof this post at all.

I will be back eventually.

  1. So sorry you're feeling yucky. Hopefully some rest and OTC medications will help. Allergies have been bad for me this year, so I am resigned to being someone who takes Zyrtec daily. Take care of yourself.

    1. Janelle B,
I have an appointment with an allergist on the 21st. I cannot take an antihistamine until then. So, I may just have to go get antibiotics if OTC doesn't work or the humidity does not lessen SOON. Thanks.

  2. By what mechanism does high humidity make you sick? I know it makes allergies worse, but people don't run fever with allergies that I know of.

    1. I don't know and cannot think. My children ran a fever, elevated temp, with allergy problems. So did my daughter's son.

    2. Peggy had asthma attacks due to allergies, so maybe you're right about infection going with congestion, or maybe the problem has to do with molds.

    3. snowbrush,
I had a bad head congestion problem, allergies I am sure. Plus, I had a horrid chest infestion problem, AND strep throat. Molds is part of the chest and head problem. 18th now--today I was rasping as I breathed in and wheezing as I breathed out. The pharmacist said that was classic asthma symptoms. Why does no doctor EVER diagnose that? I suppose I will go back to a specialist again. Another one may have different ideas. My throat closed today as I coughed and panicked me.

    4. I just finished a book that I was captivated with all the way through, and thought you might enjoy it: "Hope After Faith" by Jerry Dewitt of DeRidder, LA.

  3. I hope you start feeling better soon. I wish I could energize (like on Star Trek) some chicken soup over. Coffee helps me when allergies hit me. Sending good vibes...

  4. Alkaselser Plus did wonders for me until the damn thing settled in my chest with bronchitis. Regardless, I say go to the doctor and get a head startl If it is viral and no drugs will help, he/she can still give you something to ease the chest and nasal congestion. At our age, old enough to remember with the Dead Sea was just sick, we don't need to mess around with this stuff.

    1. Coffeypot,
If I don't get rid of this now, the chest will be next, and that is the hardest part.
