How is it...

That 1,321 people visited my blog yesterday, yet not one had even a one-word comment? Are you tired of free lunch posts? Were the deals really bad prices? Just curious!

  1. Sometimes I comment and sometime not - no particular reason. Yesterday, for instance, I replied to comments on my blog because I feel that whoever comments deserves an answer, but was busy with other things that kept me away from my computer most of the day. Your sale prices weren't bad at all. In fact, I wish the sales here were that good! Grapes here on sale are $1.69 lb. And I only see cabbage on sale for 25 cents a lb. on St. Patricks Day sales. I usually wait for cabbage at the Farmer's Market where they are 2.00 each but they are huge.

I had never heard of so many places to get free meals as you have written about. I don't think they exist here. There are programs that will deliver a meal a day to seniors who are housebound. One of my neighbors made use of that kind of service through her church. It would be a nice thing if there were places for seniors to go for a free meal. They not only could get a meal but could also enjoy the company of others.

I was not trying to force responses, but thanks for the comment. It took me years to even know there was a page where all comments were listed. About that time I found people who said they were never coming back since I did not answer their questions. Well, I just did not know they were there.

I would certainly be shocked if all who read had a comment to leave. But, not even one person saying anything was very depressing.

Even when I have surgery and won't be able to drive, since I own a car and will drive again one day, I still will not be eligible for meals on wheels. It seems silly. I have heard the meals here are nasty from Meals on Wheels!

But, the Tuesday meals from these churches are wonderful. I could crash family reunions and eat well...lol.

  3. I just don't have a lot to say! I think it's great you are taking advantage of free meals- that's why they are offered. My little sis and 2 nephews are visiting this weekend- I asked her what goodie she'd like me to bake and she said nothing since she is still on a low carb diet. Drat it- I was looking forward to baking a carrot or coconut cake LOL. I'll have to wait until Easter and bake for my daughter's get together I guess. I have heard meals on wheels is a good program- I think it's as healthy as the food purchased for it. My church fills backpacks for kids for the weekend and the food they purchase is so processed but they do add fresh fruit. I hope the families eat it!

    1. Nan,
That is funny that you are chomping at the bit for a reason to cook a goodie. My neighbor would throw some of the meals in the trash. They were that bad, and this was 30 years ago. Even though the foods are processed, it is a step in the right direction for hungry children. I hope they eat it, too.

  4. Meals on Wheels - local paper just had an article about them. One town charges $5 per meal, one meal per day, and uses many processed foods. Another charges $3 per meal, one meal per day, and it is made mainly from scratch. In listing the meals I found little that sounded good, was nutritional or, for that matter, fit for a basically house bound senior. Very heavy on carbs, little fresh. And, for a senior on a limited budget, which is how you qualify for that program, $15 - $25 per 5 meals per week is expensive. I can feed myself 3 meals, 3 snacks per day for a month on $200-$225.

Wish we had free meals locally that were easy to get to, most are 20-30 min away. There always seems to be a catch in getting good food, free or at a reasonable price. BTW your sale price are fantastic, we have no store that offers anything close to those sale prices.

    1. Bellen,
That is extremely expensive for bad food. My neighbor would get an extra meal that was not delivered. She would call me over to eat. One day, both of us threw away the meals.

The last one I went to was a senior program at the church. I read about other meals that are free, and like you said they are miles away. In Huntsville, AL there are quite a few, but mostly those are for street people. However, many are church programs open to church members and the community.

Those sale prices were all price-matched at WM. I go through about 8 paper ads and two online ads to find those.

    1. Anne,
It was the zero responses that got to me, especially with so many views and about 200 for that post. I hate it when I lose my internet connection for a long time.

  7. I love reading about your free lunches. This weeks sounded really nice. Free food and a little info that people didnt know about different Bibles. I get a lot of free food from our church food pantry but no free meals. Have a wonderful day, Did you get any of the bad storms ? We are now getting the rain.

    1. Barbara,
I feel sort of bad about complaining now. The storms bypassed me and even my area completely. It rained hard with thunder and lightning for about 15 minutes and then it was over completely. Other parts of AL did have damage. These free lunches are wonderful for socializing as well as for good meals. I do not want my brain to shrivel.

    1. tana50,
Bloggers live for comments...lol. Or either they are talking to themselves. Blogs do make good records of what has happened for personal use. Why would we make a good Hallmark movie? I will let you know.

  9. Because you are no longer boyfriend/girlfriend, but you are still in each others lives, caring for and helping each other. He helps with jobs around the house and you make him meals and you still can enjoy each others company. It would be a nice movie that I would like to watch. I don't think a relationship like yours happens every often and it is very heartwarming.

Okay, I understand. Maybe I will write a movie or a book for a movie. I just ate one of the lemon things he knows I am saving for him. I think I will go eat the other one. Maybe he will forget or I can fake him off with something else.

  10. Linda you have every right to wonder, that is a lot of looks with no comments. I'm not sure what the criteria is here for Meals on Wheels here but when I signed my sister up for it, I do remember they asked why she could not cook. The mealsvwere about five dollars per day and she thought they were wonderful. But she is not a picky eater. Now she is in a nursing home and still thinks the food is good. Please remember I do enjoy reading your posts regardless of the subject.

    1. carol,
Oh, I know people who love those nasty meals. The best one was the salsbury steak, gravy, and mashed potatoes from a box and peas. Only, I did not eat the peas. My friend who was in rehab in the nursing home had her husband bring her food most of the time. For five dollars a day, I would have to just eat peanut butter sandwiches. I do know you enjoy reading. Thanks for the response. I felt whiny but with so many views, I was dumbfounded. Even a couple or one comment would have been okay.

  11. I've been out of town and am just now catching up on the blogs I read. Don't really know too much about meals on wheels other than a senior friend of my dad's receives them.
