Ziploc Alert

First

Ziploc always has bags decorated for Christmas, pints and quarts. The day after Christmas, they are marked down 50% off and a few weeks later they are marked down to 75% off. For the last few years, I have bought Ziploc storage bags at 75% off. Sometimes, I have coupons which really brings down the cost. This year, I will watch more closely for coupons and maybe order coupons.

Second

I have had four $4 coupons for Ziploc in my purse for several years, $4 off one box. I did not want to lose money by spending the coupons on reduced bags. Finally, I used the $4 coupons.
 I purchased:
a box of 32 1-gallon freezer bags
a box of 38 1-quart freezer bags
a box of 152 sandwich bags.

All boxes of bags were $4.46x3=$13.38 minus 3x/44 coupons=$12.00
$13.38-$12.00=$1.38 oop.

There were boxes holding more bags per box, but the cost per bag is less when you are using a coupon if you apply it to the smaller size/amount whether it is detergent, Ziploc bags, or whatever.

Since I still have Christmas storage bags from last year, I am set. I do hate to have to buy storage and freezer bags even though I buy few. But, I can live with these three boxes costing me $0.46 each.

There is still one more coupon for $4 in my purse to spend when I figure out exactly which size bag I really need to replenish. I think I need pints.

Your turn
Do you ever snag any of the decorative Christmas Ziploc bags when they are marked down? Is there one Christmas item you try to find on markdown after Christmas?

  1. I have bought "off season" ziplocks. Don't care what, if any, pattern they have. After Xmas sales: look for solid colored wrap that can be used all year. With my last move, I reduced my wrap kept on hand.

    1. I definatley stock up on plain wrap as well. Solid colors can be used year round.

    3. SAM,
Does it freak you out or confuse you when you see food not the color it should be? I will and have used it, but it messed with my mind. But, if it cheap, my mind can adjust.

  2. I pretty much use Pyrex to store food in and really have little use for the plastic bags. I love a good bargain though- I just redeemed several coupons at Publix and got $8 off my bill. I'm starting to make some Christmas goodies later this afternoon and going to make my first batch of fudge. I'll freeze it and than later divide in decorative containers and dishes I've got at thrift stores.

    1. NAN,
Fudge! I use glass lots. Most of the bags are used to sort things. I have some Christmas Santas that slip over the tiny bulbs and have them in a sandwich bag. Also, I put food in them for exbf to take home. That way, I don't have to wonder where my dishes are and he does not have to wash dishes to return to me. He even brings back apple cores and bit of bread in one of the bags so Dominique can eat them.

  5. I must get to the stores too late to grab the seasonal zippies. I will try to go early this year because I don't care what is printed on them when I use them.

    1. Anne,
Look for them before Christmas. At WM they are not with the other Ziploc bags but on an end cap or a cardboard rack near the endcap. They gather all the Christmas stuff and put it in one place in the store, but they never think of the Ziploc bags. You just have to know they are reduced. The signs say "Christmas items reduced." So, I remind them.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
