For many years, I did not need to stash Halloween items in a certain place. I did stash them, but just on shelves and drawers. However, since I have bought many things on sale and to send to grandchildren, I buy more, and I have needed a place to keep them all together. Actually, I have gotten more into Halloween as I get older...lol.
Enter: huge orange Rubbermaid bin bought for one purpose. It's so easy to put things into it and successfully find your stash the next year. I have rarely bought a magazine Halloween edition for recipes or decorations, but I place those in the box along with pages ripped from magazines I am tossing. Because I want my cabinets for other things, not storage for things used once a year, I have begun to store ceramic Halloween candy dishes in this orange box.
I have one rule: I can buy no more Halloween stuff than will go into the mostly-full Rubbermaid container--no matter how cheap it is.
Maybe that container needs a good purging after Halloween. My kids will love getting Halloween stuff eleven months early. NOT!
Your turn
Do you have a special place for Halloween items? A drawer or shelf or cardboard box? Do you have Halloween items stored in scattered places like I had for many years?
All mine are in totes in our attic. (not a true attic) I have about 5 Halloween, 4 Thanksgiving & maybe 12 Christmas. Also 2 or 3 Easter and 1 Valentines Day totes or boxes. I did not decorate for Halloween this year and will not be hosting Thanksgiving this year so I won't be bringing any down until December.
ReplyDeleteJanet,
DeleteI was just wondering if you put out all your Halloween decorations. I suppose I should change all the Christmas to totes. The lavender tote is for Easter. You had a respite this year?
Our stuff is in the crawl space. I think that if we had a full basement, I would probably have tons more Halloween stuff. I guess its better to have less. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteSonya Ann,
DeleteYou must have a nice crawl space. Mine is tall, but buggy and probably damper than I like. You need more Halloween stuff...yes, you do.
Yes, I have a regular tub and a small one and I'm like you- I won't be adding anything else even if it's free!!! I have 2 pumpkin tablecoloths but I can use them for Thanksgivng too although the last 2 years, I've gone straight to Christmas LOL. My son is visiting next week and then I might get out the Christmas stuff since I'm going to be away for Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteNAN,
DeleteToday, I am very ill but cannot sleep, so I am making more room and will try to purge some of the stuff to my children's house because I see stuff I want. I noticed some of the Halloween looked like they could do double duty as Thanksgiving tablecloths. You are getting a lot of mileage out of yours.
I have downsized my Halloween stuff. It all fits into a medium tote in the garage. I use to have tons of stuff, but have found over time that I just don't care to decorate like I use to.
ReplyDeleteLisa,
DeleteI don't do the same kind of decorating as I did. I do understand. I love my orange tote.
I have a purple plastic bin and several large halloween popcorn tins which serve as storage for my ghosts and haunts.
ReplyDeleteUrspo,
DeleteI used purple for Easter, but that color would work. Anything works as long as I know what it is! Popcorn tins would work for some of my items.
