WASTE--WANT NOT

Do you preserve perishable food? How do you preserve food?--Dehydrating, canning, freezing, pickling?

  1. I do all of the above (dehydrating, canning, freezing and pickling) and help teach workshops on how to can safely. Last one was Saturday and we had about 24 people show up for a "jam" session. Such fun and I love helping people learn a new skill.

  2. seyrey,
Teaching sounds like fun. I taught my friend, Charlie, to make jam. Did you see my "Jamming with Sasquatch" post? I think excessively hairy men should wear a shirt when cooking. But, it was his jam, hairy or not.

  3. A few things: pickles, tomatoes, japelenos, peppers. Not nearly as much as I should.

  4. I can soups, stews and beans. I dehydrate produce when I have more than I can use. I freeze fruits and veggies for smoothies for my 19 year old college son. I freeze meal sized portions of leftovers if we can't eat them all as well.

    1. Patti,
I really need to can soups, stews, and beans. I need to can meat, too. I use frozen fruit instead of ice in smoothies. Good job, better than I right now.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
