Free Christmas Gift

Arch Card

Mc Donald's Arch Card

My quest for free or cheap Christmas gifts continues. I use My Coke Rewards to record points from Coke caps or from the 12 or 24 can packs of Cokes. I keep the Coke caps and printed codes from the cartons in an old Miracle Whip jar until I get ready to enter them on the website.

Thursday night, I decided to enter a few coke codess. Well, what I had was about twenty caps and three printed cokes from cartons. But, before I could even put in codes, a screen popped up that offered me a free $5 McDonald's Arch Card. I jumped at that even though I figured there was a catch. Not at all. It's on the way.

This will probably go to my grandson who is away at college. First, I will determine if there is a McD in the tiny college town.

Tonight, I entered more Coke codes. I have been getting Wired for him, or sending my daughter a coupon for a 12-pack of Coke in cans. In my cursory look at rewards I cannot find Wired or Cokes this time. Bummer. Every day, I will look to see what free thing is offered. I forgot what free thing is there tonight.

You might not want to use the McD card for yourself, but surely at Christmas you know someone who would like a $5 Arch card that is reloadable. You could load more money on it if you think $5 is not enough.

I am not averse to getting caps from the trash or the side of the road. Okay, the side of the road find was two empty 24-packs sticking out of a dumpster. When I stop for gas, I only get the bottles right in the top of the trash can. I never dig. You might get friends or relatives to help you find these. Maybe not.

Your turn
Do you collect codes of Coke can packages or bottled Cokes? What have you gotten?

  1. Not something I collect. I assume they are available - but haven't come across them.
I make at least some of my Christmas gifts. For over twenty years now I have been making Christmas cakes to give away. The most arduous (and yes, expensive) year I gave away fourteen of various sizes.
I make shortbread too. And cheese straws.

  2. EC,
They may not be there. I don't know. I have made Christmas gifts, too. I usually sew, not bake. I do need to get on your gift list...lol.

  3. That's awesome! I've been doing the MCR thing for years now, but I've never had anything pop up for free! Good for you! :-)
I really enjoy your blog by the way! Glad I found you! :-)

    1. Lily,
I have never seen anything for free, either. I was skeptical, thinking they would spring the point cost on me. There was something else free last night. Forgot what.

Thanks, Lily, Come back again. I love comments.

  4. Linda, you might want to hold off redeemed your points for a bit. For the last few years they have done a special on the 12 pack of Cokes reward closer to Xmas(Nov. or early Dec?)and the price has been drastically lower to redeem during that 1 day or whatever period it is than usual(it's usually 250 pts for a 12 pack but during the limited promotion time it's something like 10 or 15? don't recall exactly). I always wait for that promo to turn mine in.

And when you search for the coke product rewards just put "sparkling" into their search bar to find them....they always call them sparkling refreshments or drink or something. lol

  5. Sluggy,
Thanks. I remember they did that once and I had no points. I will hold off on redeeming anything. "Sparkling" Got it.

    Okay, everybody wait.

  6. Nobody I know touches Coke products, so I don't know a thing about rewards. If I did, though, you can bet I would loo everywhere for the codes! I might just have discovered a new hobby. I am not the least bit afraid to pick things out of trash, off the side of the road, or even knock on stranger's doors to see if they really meant to set that perfectly good laundry basket out with the trash. Here, it's aldo very common to have someone ask if they can take the apples dropping in your yard, or pick your blackberries if you won't be using them.

    1. Meg,
If I saw a laundry basket by the road, I would just get it. Here, we assume that if it is by the road, it is trash or set out for free. Now, the only people I know with apple trees or berries do raise hem to sell. I have mentioned that I would love to glean if they allow that. So far--no takers. However, I do advertise for free pecans and figs.

  7. We don't usually buy soda unless it is during a time when we have guests so the coke/Mc Donalds awards aren't something I know about. Here in California we pay a CRV tax (California refund value) on beverages. We pay 5c on bottles of up to 24oz and 10c on larger volume containers. You can bet that we recycle ..... John has an eagle eye and will swerve over to the side of the road to pick up discarded bottles. We call it picking up nickles! They add up! The last time he redeemed our CRV items we got well over $100.

    1. WOW! Janet, that is real money...lol, picked up a nickel at a time. I really wish we had a redemption fee. It would keep the road sides clear of so much trash.

  8. This is the first I've heard of Coke points. Perhaps it's an American promotion ... or I'm just out of touch. ;-)

    1. Look on a 12- or 24-pack of cans and see if there is a mention. Or, look on a 20 oz/half liter coke top. On the top, outside of the bottle, there is a coke bottle and some mention. Or, go to mycokerewards.com. It has been going here for at least three years.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
