On Saturday evening Tommy asked me if I had Bandaids. Of course I do, but asked why he wanted one. Where the dermatologist burned off a huge skin tag, he had scratched the itchy scab. It was open, raw, and bleeding. I told him the toothpaste I was using would help him since he said it was still itching. He let me put some on the open sore of this huge skin tag. He immediately said it was no longer itching. Today, he had his t shirt off and I asked how it was. He said he had forgotten about it. He felt and was surprised the Crest was still there. He said he has never put Crest on his skin.
Tonight, I cut his hair. He was a pain most of the time. I could barely stand to cut it, so tomorrow I will do a little bit more to fix it when my standing ability recovers. Halfway through, I had him go into the bathroom to look at it. He took a pick and combed it over. There was hair six inches long that would be three inches below his ear when the combover fell down or blew down. The man has plenty of hair and not a bald spot anywhere.
Fortunately, he will forget to do the combover. He always does. The barber he went to before I started cutting his hair put a part half an inch above his ear. She was 35. Did she not notice he had plenty of hair and did not need a combover? Did she assume an old man needed a combover despite his abundant hair?
I need to call for a haircut well before Easter. She will be very busy after this week.
Since the wind was down today, he went to car and found the woman salesperson's card at car dealership. It was in the car like I thought. Nothing blew away outside. I wonder about the roof. We stayed home today. I was antsy to go out but kept myself under control.
It has been several hours since I cut his hair. He has combed it without a combover. See?
Tornado stories are horrifying. There has only been reported one death so far. That could be because the Weather forecasters dominated the television all day Saturday, people listened, and took shelter.
How did you fare in the tornado outbreak and the wind?
Have you ever put Crest or other toothpaste on any skin irritation?
In college, I had a dorm mate who put toothpaste on blemishes. She swore by it. Eczema flare ups aside , (when only a steroidal ointment will do) I swear by soap and water on wounds/abrasions/cuts. Although, when Daughter got her ears pierced years ago, I did have her clean the piercings with peroxide when she got out of the shower, because she was too afraid to take the earrings out for the first several weeks. I didn’t want a glycocalyx to form from shampoo residue. When a son got his ears pierced a few years back, I had him use soap and water, but he was older than she was when she had her ears pierced, and his hair was a lot shorter.
ReplyDeleteMeg,
DeleteI have read soap and water is the first best thing for would and abrasions.
My daughter and I had our ears pierced about 50 years ago, the same day. I have forgotten what we used. Mine were infected for years. Hers were fine.
We were "camping" in our motorhome one time and I got stung by a bee and didn't have anything to help the itch and used toothpaste. It worked.
ReplyDeleteOne,
DeleteThat is good to know. Toothpaste saved the day for you.
I thought you bought Neosporin with Pain Relief? I would have used that. Or daubed it with hydrogen peroxide, then put some Vaseline and a bandaid over it, to keep it moist and from scabbing over again. Even honey, with its antibacterial properties, would have been good.
ReplyDeleteBut toothpaste? Personally I would not have gone there.
The only thing I've used white toothpaste for (other than cleaning my teeth) was to hide nail holes in walls at my rentals.
Lots of wind and branches down, but no deaths. Today is overcast, cooler, and rainy. Spring weather.
sue,
DeleteI did, but did not feel like looking for it. I thought of lots of things. Remember, no bandaids.
Toothpaste worked. It is not itching.
Today was cloudless with blue sky. Very pretty.
I've never tried toothpaste on a skin irritation!
ReplyDeleteThe tornadoes have been on our UK news and they look devastating.
Take care and I wish you a good week ahead.
All the best Jan
Jan,
DeleteIt removes, the itch or pain. It seems to work to stop it feeling bad.
It looks bad on tv, too. A tornado hit my town in 2011. It was horrible up close. No electricity for 6 days.
