Then, I Lost

I had set my large, new crock from the crockpot given to me outdoors on the bottom step of the porch. When I heard a noise outside Saturday night, I looked out the door and saw nothing amiss. Sunday afternoon, I found the crock broken. Bummer. I suppose a nosy cat knocked it off the bottom step.

In the past I have seen many crocks at thrift stores, but cannot go there to search.

I'll trade you an umbrella for a crock!

Your turn
Have you found the crocks are easily broken? Do animals ever bother food dishes if you set them outdoors?

  1. In my first crockpot the element died so I kept the crock as a spare. I think the spare and the original eventually got broken.
Then I bought a teeny crockpot as a gift for a single mum I know but she also bought one on the exact same day and that is the one i use now.

Do they have Pay-it-forward facebook pages for your area? I have seen a few people score an unused crockpot through those

    1. kylie,
I have never seen that on facebook. I can look. I've seen those teeny crockpots and wonder who uses them since I put a whole hen in mine...lol.

Yardsale season is just about over, so I could have found one when they were all over every weekend. I did not get out at a yardsale because it is too hard to walk.

I suppose there are so many crocks because elements died!

  2. Raccoons are a problem around here. I keep all of our aluminum cans outside and they tear the bags open and drink any remains. DRUNKS!!

    1. Sonya Ann,
It could have been a raccoon, but I have not seen evidence since spring. Raccoons are one reason I don't keep cans outdoors. You are corrupting the raccoons!

  3. I went through 2 that lasted no time, then found a larger one at Wal Mart that has lasted several years.
Sometimes possums and raccoons get into the garbage can if the lid snapped shut Enjoy you blog, especially about food/cooking

    1. Jenny,
This was a gift, so particularly upsetting! Thank you. Come back again. Love having you here.

  4. The slow cooker I use has a metal insert. I did at one time have one of the tall old crockpots that you could not remove the insert. I hated it because it was so awkward to wash. But I do see the crocks all the time at goodwill.

    1. carol,
My insert is a crock, not metal. Yes, the ones that could not be removed really looked like a pain. I will look for another soon.

  5. The crockpot is over 20 years old if it is a day. I keep waiting for it to drop/crack or give up the ghost but the intrepid thing keeps on ticking..

    1. Ur-spo,
Mine might have lasted more than two years if I had not put it on concrete where a raccoon could tip it over. Never again.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
