Sluggy's Giveway and Falling Down

The roads are still closed still. But, the temperature is up to 37F, so it will melt, but slowly.

Sluggy has another giveaway right HERE.   It is  "pamper yourself" box of goodies. I only remember there is chocolate.

When I went out to feed my hens, I slid all the way. My feet sink into snow and then I slide with arms outstretched and regain my balance. I managed to stifle squeals. At their pen, it appeared a person had made footprints and not in a place I walked yesterday. Hmmm, I cleared away snow on a bench, sitting to watch the hungry girls. They have no desire to come out of the pen.

On the way back to the house, I fell. I had just put the one egg down on a pile of snow so I could go get the mail without having to protect the egg. Well, after I fell, got all wet trying to get up, I just took the egg inside. I pulled a muscle in my side and broke a fingernail, but did not hurt my knees or noggin.

In 1993, during the blizzard, I fell from the top of the concrete steps to the bottom and slid out onto the ice. I lay there like a bug on its back, arms and feet in the air, flailing about to turn over. I crawled across the ice and up the steps. That memory will keep me indoors. The hens may get hungry, but I cannot hurt myself that badly again.

I am staying in today, no matter what is outside my door that interests me!

Your turn
Have you fallen in this snow?  Or, are you so sure-footed that you can stay upright?

  1. yes I have fallen on the snow and ice and it wasn't pretty. You are right to be cautious. The chickens will be fine for one day.

    1. Gill,
They had lots of food when I fed them, but they won't get anymore today. Exbf is supposed to come tomorrow. However, the ice will be worse. He has more problems walking than I do. The fall in 93 has not been forgotten!

  2. Yes, I've fallen. The worst fall though wasn't on snow or ice. I was 10 years old. I was running after a bath (wet feet) & didn't hold the handrail. I slid all the way down a flight of stairs. I'll forever have a weak spot on the right side of my back.

    1. tlc,
That sounds like a nasty fall. Adults always caution children, but some of the lessons are learned the hard way. I am sure you are still cautious after that experience.

  3. I hope you have taken those bags off your feet. You might as well be wearing ice skates. Just wear your tennis shoes, or something with some traction. Better yet, just stay indoors, like you planned. Feel better soon.

    1. tana50,
It was the plastic bags! I never thought of that. I only hve one pair of shoes, well, an old pair and this pair. The snow was above my ankles, so I wondered why it was so slippery. When we were kids, we put plastic bags over our feet and then put a pair of Daddy's socks over the bags. We never slipped. If we did, we were young, limber, and it was not so far to the ground. However, I never remember falling in the tiny bit of snow I experienced. Thanks! I know I would have figured it out, but how long would it take...lol.

    2. Actually, I do have some grubby shoes in need of rehab, so I will be getting those out to go out once more today.

  4. oh dear, please be careful. I hope you're not too hurt.
That's a bit worrying about the footprints isn't it ?

    1. Wean,
I just walked in the snow in my own steps. It was slushy, so no sliding. Yes, at lest they were not near the house.

  5. Fall are nasty no matter what age you are, but at our age are very dangerous.
In Feb '93 leaving the house husband said watch the ice, I did but still slipped and badly sprained my ankle. As I sat on the porch crying with pain I said we had to move to Florida, I'd had enough. So, that Oct. we moved to Florida.

    1. At our age, falls come more easily, too. So, that is how you got to Florida!

  6. My worst fall was in 1981, I think it was. I was in college. Wearing a pair of knitted slippers, I went from my dorm room to the front lobby because I had a guest? I don't remember exactly why I went up there. On the way back I had to go down a short flight of stairs - maybe five or six steps. I slipped on the top step and fell to the bottom, landing on my lower back, just above the tail bone. Wow, that hurt! The next day I had a huge bruise on my back/hip area. It has given me trouble ever since, especially when I have to sit for a long time, like in an airplane or long car trip.

I've also slipped on ice a few times, but not recently. I have "skated" slipping a bit then righting myself before falling. We don't get much ice here in South Carolina, so I don't get much chance, thankfully.

Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting! I love your blog name. :)

    1. Java,
My back has hut ever since my ex shoved me into the footboard of our bed when I was pregnant. Every subsequent fall has exacerbated that injury. Now, I need surgery.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
