Charter, Are You Nuts?

The guys came to hook me up with Charter and informed me I could not get Charter in my location.

Why? The people next door have it?

The pole is across the street and your electric meter is behind your house. Theirs is in front of their house.

In my head: No, it is behind their house, just like mine.

So, why not put a pole in my yard?

Well, a surveyor will have to come tomorrow and it will be Friday before you have internet.

The End

If Charter cannot get it right from the beginning, what chance do I have?

Right now, I am sitting in McD parking lot and am going home!

Your turn
Have you had trouble with Charter?

  1. I miss internet when I don't have it but I don't know if I'd drive somewhere to use theirs...You are lucky you can do that but is it really worth the pain? I hope you get it on at your home properly real soon.

    1. Barb,
It is only about a mile and a half. The problem is it is hard to carry it into wherever I am going to use it. Plus, after sitting there my back hurts so I have to get someone to carry the laptop to the car. Then, my back does not recover, leaving me in more pain the next day. Thanks.

  2. Oh Linda how frustrating. I think everyone has their internet horror stories (or phone or cell phone), Why are these people so hard to deal with? I for one am grateful you are willing to use wifi whereever you can get it.

    1. Carol,
This is almost beyond frustrating. Because a woman lied to me when trying to sell me a new phone, she lied about the contract, so I am stuck with the cell phone for one more year! Thanks.

  3. Good grief. They are making it harder than it needs to be.

  4. For heaven's sake - what next?
We once couldn't get internet at a commercial location even tho a residential building less than 300 feet away had it. Reason: we were "out of their area of service".

    1. Bellen,
This guy gets paid whether he connects anything or not, so why should he care? They sent someone from 120 miles away. He was ready to drive back and still get paid by the hour. He offered no solution. I had to be the one to suggest a pole. grrrr

    2. Bellen,
"out of their service area" ??? Did you ever get it?

My friend lived out in the country and could see a pole about 100 feet away, but they refused to put a pole at their house because "It was not worth it." My friend was furious and never got service.

  5. I'm so sorry. I've never even heard of Charter, though, but I'm sure you can find plenty of reviews.

    1. I tried to find Charter on Angie's List but couldn't, so I don't suppose it's operative here.

    2. Snow,
When the reviews are mixed, it is hard to decide. I decided because it is faster and more reliable than others. It is Charter Communications, regional, I think, probably just in the Southeast.

  6. Oh, for crying out loud that is just ridiculous. Sorry you're having so much trouble, Linda...go get a Frappachino...

Seriously, there shouldn't be anywhere where Internet service is totally unobtainable at this point, unless you live in the Sahara or at one of the poles. I take that back...I know they have it at the South Pole...

    1. Cherdo,
      I had a Whopper while I was there...lol.

It is hard to believe that dial-up is still the only thing available in some areas. It is available at the South Pole?

  7. I.Hate.Charter They have us by the proverbial balls. A year ago my husband bundled everything with them. ( I can't tell you how seriously opposed I was to the bundle) Now they have changed the game, gone strictly digital and require stupid boxes for everything. In addition they want me to pay more. How did that happen. My theory is that they changed the contract by doing the digital rather than cable thing so my contract with them is over. They see it differently.

    1. Anne,
Bundling with ATT was a hassle. I swore I would get myself out of everything bundled. So far, the home phone is with MagicJack and the TV is on an antenna. That leaves internet and cell phone. I will never, ever, so-help-me-god, have anything else bundled, EVER.

That stymied me when he said I needed a box. When I asked "why," he said "you just do."

I think you can win that argument about cable and digital. Keep it up. I did and got my way. Good luck.

They were harassing me about getting tv. NO WAY.

  8. Things like this burn me up. Nothing worse. They tick us off and take our money. Lovely.
    I hope it gets sorted.

    1. Sonya Ann,
On Friday, they called and cancelled their appointment! It is too bad I cannot get "free" internet, like I have for tv with the antenna and MagicJack for home phone.

I did talk to ATT and got my internet turned on plus got an $89 credit! I did not expect them to be so nice!

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
