I CAN Spell!

No matter what you see on my blog, I am an excellent speller. On April 21, 2016, I won the Cullman County 2016 Senior Spelling Bee. The Nationals will be held in Knoxville, TN.

This is great, but last year Nationals were in Wyoming. I almost entered last year.

I cannot post a picture of the trophy. I also won a dictionary and $100, plus an all expense paid trip to

Hopefully, this will be the last break in my blog.

The last Spelling Bee I entered was in the eighth grade. I think I came in second. Maybe not.

Your turn
Have you ever entered a spelling bee? Have you won?

  1. Welcome back! I am a good speller as well, but I have never entered a spelling bee. Didn't even know they had grown up "bees"!

  3. I was in a school spelling bee once. I got the first word they asked me, wrong. Still haven't been able to spell it since. Must be a mental block.
I've never entered a spelling bee since that day BUT I am a stickler for properly spelled words.
    Go figure!

  6. I never voluntarily entered nothing. I'm glad for your reward, but you're kind of late finishing high school, are you not?

    1. carol,
It is a mystery that when I posted the post about the spelling bee, I could not find my own blog. Things are hard, but I am back here again since I got the computer issues cleared up.

    1. 1st man,
It was for anyone over 50, but we were all much older. Knoxville! That is right up the road from me. Last year, nationals were held in Wyoming, somewhere I might never go to. It was fun.

  9. Congratulations! I won a spelling bee (for my grade only) in the 2nd grade, but years of studying Spanish later on completely ruined my English spelling. Spanish-speaking kids have no idea how easy they have it with their mostly phonetic language. :)

I'm glad you're back! Have fun in Knoxville! Are the nationals televised?

  10. jess,
Thanks and congrats on your second-grade win. English is hard to spell and pronounce, compared to Spanish. I never thought about seeing if it will be televised. I'll have to find out.

  12. Hey ! There you are! I'm glad to see you posting again! Unfortunately I am not a very good speller but I can spot a misspelled word and I am bothered by it. I am one of the few people who truly appreciate "spell check". So.... do you have new chicks? How are you feeling? Last time we spoke you were still on the mend.

  13. Janet,
no chicks. I suppose I will always be on the mend from something the ways things are going! The hysterectomy left four purplish scars that are fading.

  14. Glad you're back, Linda! Missed you! Can't wait to start reading you again. Spelling Bee's......so fun. Have only had them in elementary school, though. And I'm sure I held my own, but don't remember winning. Again....glad you're back! Bonnie

    1. Bonnie,
Thanks! We were a bunch of old, creaky people, half of whom had trouble rising and walking. Glad you came back. I lost half of my peeps.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
