Thursday Night Storm

my car--the target

Faced with the prospect of violent storms aka tornadoes Thursday night, I was surprised the rain was light, light enough it did not wake me. Obviously, the winds were strong but not enough to wake me. It's sad to hear of the damage elsewhere but good it did not happen here.

The limb above hit my car and slid or bounced off. You cannot see it, but the limb extends to my car, little limbs that catch on my clothes. The whole limb was over 15' long. There are many lurking about to target my car. The driveway is between two huge oaks and their drip
lines overlap. If I park further back, there are huge limbs back there. So, parking on the street is my best option.

The Alabama damage was limited to the lower half of the state.

And, I still wish I had chosen to go to the Blooming Festival this Saturday (today) or Sunday instead of getting the greenhouse!

Your turn
Did the storms on Thursday night affect your area? Does your car live under cover? Under trees?

  1. Mostly our car does live under cover. There are some large trees around, and sadly one at least of them will probably fall on the garage (or the house) when/if it does fall.

    1. EC,
I have hoped for years that one of the four huge oak and hickory trees around my house or one of the four pines on the north side would hit my house. No luck. All the people with money get to remodel their houses and get new roofs.

  2. One of our cars is parked in the garage, the others in the driveway. The winds here usually come from the south or south east, so I don't worry about my trees falling on them.

    1. Michelle,
I love in fear of oaks dropping limbs. This is the third or fourth direct hit on this car. One ruined the hood of the car

    1. Coffeypot,
I am not sure where you live, but you obviously got lucky, too. Yes, my car finish is being ruined in the same manner. In the spring I need to wash my car everyday, but don't, of course. The windshield must be cleaned to drive and see EVERYDAY!

  4. Here in the PNW, everybody I know has a 2(+)car garage, but I don't know anybody, (including ourselves) who can fit a car in the garage! Fortunately, we don't get the hail of the southeast. The wind storms can be brutal, but generally, if you elves here, you keep trees away from cars and roofs!

  5. Meg B.,
If I kept trees away from cars and roofs, I would have no trees or they would only be 10' tall. This is a hundred-year plus neighborhood. So, few people have a garage or carport even unless they added on to the house. Thanks for the comment. I thought you lived in the South!

    1. I used to over in the south, AND we own a vacation home in the Sunshine State. But, after dh retired, we picked the PNW. He couldn't take the summers in the south, I couldn't take the winters in the northeast! This was a compromise.

    2. Meg B.,
That is a long way to move but a good compromise, it seems. The hot and humid summers of AL suit me better than cold or rainy.

  6. We got a massive hail storm mid last week. Woke me up around 4am clanking on the two large windows around my bed and on the carport outside my window. Luckily, my car is under one of those carports, so no damage. That is until this past weekend when I noticed a crack during my drive to Illinois :-/ I don't think it's from the hail storm though.

    1. tlc,
There is some sort of product to put on the crack to keep it from growing. Your father will know. Or, you can go to Auto Zone or some such place. Until 2000 when I had to have the carport torn down, I always had a garage or carport for my car and concrete for my delicate feet. Now, I am roughing it and my car looks rough!

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
