Slicing Apples

Farberware apple slicer

I have seen these for years but assumed slicing an apple with the slicer would be difficult. Nope. This was easy to push through the very hard Granny Smith Apple. Even with the diminished strength of my hands, pain in torn rotator cuff, and just plain old age, the apple slicer is super easy to use.

Although the apple peel on the bottom is not cut, I finally figured out how to easily remove the slices--turn the whole thing upside down and push on the peel not cut.

There is a smaller slicer, but the Farberware that is larger is really easy to grip. I am not being compensated in any way for these comments.

As you can see, I did not center the slicer. All the previous apples were centered.

Your turn
Have you ever used one of these? What is your opinion?

  1. I had the smaller, metal kind, but rarely had apples to use it on.

    1. lotta joy,
All metal? Hmmm. Do you still have it? Oh, I eat an apple every day. This will bet a workout.

  2. When my kids were younger and decided they loved apples with peanut butter, I bought one of these so the kids could cut/dissect their own apples. Saved me time and for only $2, well worth the price. It's still going strong too!

    1. slugmama,
I hope this one lasts. f I ever see an older one that is all metal, I will get it. This one cost $7. These slicers, old or new, are much safer for a child to use. Maybe mine will last a good long time.

  3. Nice to hear of a gadget which does what it is supposed to. Rare. And it looks easy to clean too - another of my bug bears.

    1. EC,
I figured it took a strong man to make this work. Even I can work with this. Yes, it is easy to clean. I agree--gadgets drive me nuts when I cannot easily clean them.

  4. I have been thinking about getting one of these. Maybe I will tell Hubby to put one in my Christmas stocking.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
