Armadillo in my trap

  1. That's kind of cool. Are armadillos popular there? Are they a pest? Do they eat chickens?

  2. I don't know about popular. I see them quit often, dead on the road. Sometimes, they are sometimes seen scurrying about around houses and on the side of the highway. Of course, my roaming range is not far. They burrow, so they are a pest in that sense. They were mostly in Texas and South America, but their range is being extended.

I don't think they would eat a chicken or even attack. When they are frightened, the jump straight up. You can imagine that a frightened chicken would certainly startle/frighten the armadillo and in turn frighten the chickens. They might both die of a heart attack and never touch each other. They often jump when a car drives over them and kill themselves hitting the undercarriage of the car or truck.

There has been a burrow for about five years going under my back fence but never coming out behind the fence in the neighbor's yard. This must be the culprit. But, this is the first time I have seen one in my yard.

My neighbor is going to help remove him in the morning, thankfully.

    2. Wendy,
But, you have bears if I remember correctly. I prefer the bug eating armadillo. My neighbor and I will decide what to do with him today when he comes today.

  3. We had an armadillo digging a hole in the garden, just outside the front door. Because they can carry leprosy, I couldn't bring myself to even push the dirt back where it came from.

And to think they are eaten in Mexico. irk

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
