Two Bargains

I hate cleaning pans in which I bake a turkey or any meat. Plus, I often cook ten pounds of chicken breasts or parts to save on the use of electricity. Plus, I can freeze most of the meat and eat from the frozen stash for a long time.

When I was in Kmart, I came across a shelf of marked-down items. Usually, I pay $2.78 for a box of two Reynolds Cooking Bags--Turkey sized. These were marked down to $1.50. Of course, I snagged 10 boxes. I doubt I will use many of these baking bags this summer. Come winter, I will burn right through the 20 bags I have now.

There is a turkey in my freezer over the refrigerator that does need to be cooked to free up some room.

Actually, I probably have a one-year supply at the cost of $0.75/bag. Formerly, I paid $1.39/bag at full price. I saved $12.80. You  can figure the percent I paid or saved. Usually, I discover I am out of these and must make a special trip for the one item! Actually, it seems I am always out of the Reynolds Cooking Bags!

Shopping for bargains on my own shelves is great. This makes one more item for which I won't pay full price. If I had had more money, I would have bought the other 10 boxes on the shelf.

Kraft Dressing was marked to $1.70 for a 16 ounce bottle. I had a coupon for $0.75 for two bottles. My dressing cost me $1.70 x 2=$3.40-$0.75=$2.65 for two or $1.33 for each 15 oz bottle. I love a bargain.

Your turn
Have you discovered this markdown shelf at KMart? Do you buy bargains for items other than food?

  1. When and if I can get organized again, I want that system of shopping my own shelves back. When we were just starting out, it was a necessity for things like baby supplies and laundry soap and to never run out and have to pay full price. I've lost my mojo over the years. Your bags were a good find.

    1. SAM,
It is funny how we can do so well in the beginning and lose mojo in different areas. Maybe with concerted effort you can get it back.

  2. I have discovered the KMart clearance shelves. It's like a new fangled blue light special! (Those were so exciting when I was a kid.) Our Kmart is a bit of a drive, so I don't frequent it often. A gew years back, I went in thhe middle of January, when their Christmas/winter items are 75%-90% off. I also enjoy wandering around to fi d the deep discounted yellow stickers. The thing I dislike greatly about our KMart is the wandering vinyl replacement window salesman. I go so infrequently, that he thinks I am a new person every visit.

    1. "Vinyl replacement window salesman" ??? THAT I have never encountered. I, too, search for those stickers. My problem is that they only have two electric carts, either in use or dead and not plugged in.

  3. Why don't I use more cooking bags? I use about one a year but this post made me think.

    Good shopping, btw.

    1. Cherdo,
Using my crockpots has cut down on using these bags. However, this winter will ramp up the bag usage. Thanks.

  4. I love kmart. They are comstantly giving me rewards points to use. I shop their clothing clearance a lot for myself and my daughters.
Although the toy clearance is kind of misleading. They will have additional 25 percent off toy clearance signs but if you look at the before clearance price and the clearance price, they only originally marked them down $1 to begin with when they put them on clearance.

Yesterday my oldest daughter had a birthday party to go to, I loaded a $5 off $15 toy purchase coupon to my shop your way rewards card. Plus I had $11 in rewards points already. For the gift and a small treat for my youngest daughter, I only spent 23 cents out of pocket. Always check what shop your way coupons are available before shopping there. I can almost always find one to use, no matter what I go there for.

    1. M Ripples,
I love KMart, too. Knowing how the price and reduced prices is the key to getting a bargain.

Are the shop your way coupons loaded onto a phone? I still have a flip phone.

    2. I load them on my phone but it can be done online also if you have a shop your way rewards card.

  6. I am not a good shopper that I tend to buy something on the grounds 'that is what I want' or get this to save time - over bargains.

Tut tut tut. I think that maybe that is a guy mindset.

    1. Quite a few Kmarts were closed last month here in Alabama. Thankfully, our store was not on the list.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
