Traffic Ticket

Sprouts Farmer's Market has a special this week. Today, the ads for the past and future week are valid. Tuesday night, I went to WM to take advantage of ads that would not be valid today from other stores. Plus, I used the double ad Wednesday deal from Sprouts. I shopped judiciously and went to pay for my food. Everything was bagged and in the electric cart. No checks in the checkbook!!! Since I had chicken in the bags, they insisted they would put my cart in the cooler.

Last night was foggy. My windows were steaming up inside. Windshield wipers were necessary. As I pulled onto a narrow street in a business district, I moved to the center of the street because I could see nothing out of the right part of the windshield. I was going about 10 mph, creeping to avoid hitting anything. There are huge metal utility constructions placed in the road where cars park. I did not want to hit one of those! As I turned the corner, blue lights appeared.

They gave me a warning for driving in the middle of the street. In the meantime, they discovered I had not gotten the little stickers for my tag. I was shocked. The guy was really nice and asked me if I knew the tag expired. I told him that I had walking pneumonia for the past several months, and I did not know much.

I wonder how much this will cost me?

I still think I was  being cautious as I was driving and fighting to clear the windshield! I only got a warning. I know not to drive in the middle of the street, but this was two blocks that are practically abandoned after five o'clock pm.

Your turn
Have you ever been unjustly chastised or ticketed by the police? Yes, I did deserve the ticket.

  1. I've received 2 tickets & 1 warning. My first ticket was at the age of 16 on a 25 mph road. I was driving two girl friends home from school & they were pissing me off so I hit the gas to get home quicker & of course.. I got caught. I was SO worried I'd be in trouble, but my Dad laughed & told me it was my fault, and I'd have to pay for it. Second ticket at age 24. It was shortly after my mom died, & I was still distraught/distracted. I started speeding up on the off ramp before merging into highway traffic & the cop caught me. My fault of course, but the cop sure was cold & uncaring. The warning was speeding home from a college class, totally my fault.

  2. tlc,
I thought going faster before you merge was the right thing to do. I will continue to do that so that I won't get killed going so slow as I enter the freeway.

I must have been stopped 300+ times but only 3 tickets. sigh

    1. His point was I'm not supposed to exceed the ramp speed limit until I'm on to the highway. No matter that the highway speed limit is significantly faster and like you stated, I don't wanna get squished. Argh!

  3. Hi Linda, never got a ticket but once when I was driving a new car we bought I saw those blue lights. Turns out the dealer did not transfer the plates to the new car. Just got a warning. And I agree you are supposed to get up to speed entering the highway not stop dead like some do...grrrr. Hope it does not cost much We get stickers on our plates each year One year I bought the sticker and put it in my wallet like ok that's done Did not put it on the plate till 2 weeks after but did not get stopped

    1. I carried the stickers for the tag in my purse for six months. The red lights caught me. As luck would have it, I had a brace on my arm, so when I showed him the stickers and receipt, he put them on the tag. Then, he got a screwdriver out of his car and screwed the tag on tight. He said it was about to fall off. It had lost one screw already. The police here are very nice.

Yep, you are supposed to speed up on the ram so you won't be going ten mph pulling into fast traffic.

  4. I haven't gotten any tickets yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

I am also a very cautious driver, and I would have done as you described doing if I couldn't see and the sides of the road were obstructed!

  5. Yes and even though it was years ago I am still teed about it. I was driving a big van down a steep hill with a 35 mph speed limit. I was going 39 and got hit with a 135 dollar ticket ( the only way to keep it 35 is to ride the brakes ) I may or may not have told the power hungry officer that I was happy he kept our community safe from maur adding carpool mothers. ( I only said this as he was walking away after ticketing

  6. Anne,
You could have explained in court what happened. "Marauding carpool mothers"... LOL that is funny. I don't blame you for still being teed. Thanks for sharing that.

  7. glad you figured the word was marauding...I really do not like the Ipad spell check, especially when it changes things while I am still typing

    1. Anne,
Well, I knew you could not mean what came through on the page. I don't even know what a "maur adding" is. I don't have a device with the predictive spelling, thankfully!

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
