Happy Birthday!

Mabel and her puppies
No, I am not saying "Happy Birthday" to Mabel or her "puppies."

My oldest child was born at 11:04 am this day, April 16, 1968. (I think it was 11:04 am.) I am shocked I am the mother of a person who is 47-years-old!

Hmmm, the puppies above look like the puppy I got free at a garage sale. My son named him "Puppy." Well, maybe he did not name him, but "Puppy" was just sort of the default name for her.

Your turn
Are you the parent of an adult child, and you are shocked to be the parent of a person that old?

  1. My oldest will be 41 in August, the youngest was 32 in January. They've aged at a progressively faster rate than I have 'cause I'm only about 50 +/- 18 years :) Really, I can't figure it out!

I have the same thing going on here...lol. No, I cannot figure that out either. Two are following close behind him--45 and 40.

So, I don't type well when tired. Happy Birthday to you, too! I need to proof read because I knew his age, really, I did. Thanks for correcting me.

It is my son, the oldest whose birthday it is. The girls are younger.

  6. I am shocked at how old my older sons are but mostly flabbergasted that "The Baby" is now 21. (the baby who came much later than the others)

    1. Anne,
When my youngest turned 21, that was a shock to my system. I had my three in a seven year span. I am happy there were no surprises.

    1. T'Pol,
Yes, you kids are just daily reminders of our lot in life, just old ladies, all of us. But, I see everything like I did when I was 18.

  8. Happy Birthday to your oldest! Was he or she the ringleader when the others came along? (I'm the oldest of 4, and I may have started a lot of the trouble we got into...)

    1. Jess,
OH, he was the trouble...lol. Since his sister was two years younger, she got into everything he did. One time he said she drew on the wall with my lipstick. He could barely walk, so I knew she did not stand on the edge of the tub and draw with my lipstick.

She rarely did anything wrong. And, the third was not known to do anything out of the way.

    2. However, he was a sweetie pie that I loved so much then and now.

    3. Hehe, one of my brothers tried something similar. He blamed our baby sister for writing his name on the ceiling in his room. Dad demonstrated to him that our sister couldn't even reach the ceiling with a pencil, even standing on the furniture in their room, let alone spell my brother's name. She was only 2 or 3 at the time!

He has also turned out to be a pretty great guy, so maybe there's something to be said for getting the mischief out early.

    4. jess, I was the oldest also. I am somewhat rule-bound. He is more rule-bound. But, he tried every trick in the book to get away with things and blame them on someone else when he was little and figured out I knew better. Yes, my son is a good guy.

    1. EC,
Thanks. That is the first birthing day wish I have ever had. He was born four hours after my water broke. The second one too over twelve hours. The third hung around for about 30 hours in active labor and came toes first. Since babies are supposed to come faster after the first, I was not prepared for the long labors after the first short labor.

  10. In 2020 all four of my kids will be 50 and older. The oldest has already achieved that age. Time sure flies! :)

I tell my daughter I don't understand how she got to be so old and all grown up. She weighed 6 lbs. and was so tiny.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
