KMart Deal and Stabbed in Walmart

clothespins from China

These Kmart clothespins are of much lesser quality than the clothespins made in USA until a few years ago. The spring is inferior. However, this is what we are left to buy. I asked an employee to tell me where were the clothespins. She showed these to me, and I asked the price--on sale for $2. That is half-price, so I got two packages of 96. Your Kmart might have the same clearance price.

arm, just above my wrist

As I approached the electric carts, I felt a horrible pain in my arm. I cried out in pain as I looked to see why I hurt. A man with two tiki torches in his cart had run into me with the torches. My arm was sort of horizontal, not hanging by my side. I had lifted my arm to put something in the electric cart. The man was almost as shocked as I was. He kept saying he was sorry while I was working with horrible pain.

Just imagine if he had hit a child in the face. He was not guiding the cart with any awareness of the protruding tiki torches. He hit an area with bone underneath the skin. An eye might not fare so well and had skinned places. The end of the tiki torch is cut on a sharp angle to help to stick it in the ground.

I filled out an accident report even though I am almost 100% sure this will cause me no problem. However, I don't know what germs might be lurking on bamboo.

I pulled off all the skin shaved up (see picture above). There was only one pin-sized dot of blood on the Bandaid they gave me after they brought peroxide for the wound.

Yes, I know it looks minor, but the surprise and the sharp, severe pain combined to frighten me before I turned to see what was hurting me. The place is barely visible now but I think there will be a bruise. I feel quite sure that more damage would have been done if the veins in my arm took this blow.

This is not the first time I was minding my own business and stabbed by someone walking by! Am I just a target?

Your turn
If you use clothespins, did you realize they are made in China? Have you noticed they don't last as long? Have you ever been stabbed/injured by someone not intending you harm?

  1. Oh, I am so sorry you were injured. Why is it people who have overhanging items in shopping carts never seem to understand where they are?

I've noticed most everything is made in China and doesn't last much longer than it takes to bring it home, open the package and use it once. I'd buy all 'made in the USA' if I could afford it. Yes, I know, quality is what you should buy but if it means taking money from my meager food budget to buy, say clothespins, for triple the price of those from China I'm afraid the cheap Chinese made will win.

    1. Bellen,
Thanks. I know. The put a long item in their cart and forget it protrudes/ At :Lowe's there is always something, but those customers seem to remember they have long stuff sticking out. Same with buying at WM--I cannot afford to shop my convictions most days.

  2. All I can say is "Yikes!" Glad you seem to be healing well.

Yep, Yikes is right. I will be okay, just gun shy about others' carts after that experience.

  3. Never put hydrogen peroxide on a wound. It used to be common. Now we know it can cause soft tissue damage. Wash thoroughly but gently with soap under warm water or get a clean washcloth wet and squeeze it above the wound so soapy water runs down. I hope you got his name and number just in case of a doctor's bill, though it looks as if it will heal just fine. I don't use clothes pins anymore. No place to use them. I've never been stabbed, but I notice a scar on Willy Dunne Wooters' upper arm yesterday. He said when he was in junior high he was at a carnival and a boy holding a knife jumped off a wall. He did not intend to stab WDW, but he did. WDW's parents took him to the ER. He said it bled a lot, and he got a tetanus shot. I'm sorry you got hurt.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Janie,
I knew about the peroxide, but the wound did not look like there was a lot of damage. I was going for killing germs on the skin where the top layer was peeled up.

That is a weird thing to happen. I think the kid lied. I read your response to exbf. He was laughing at the name--WDW/

  4. Ouch. Keep an eye on it. One of my sisters in law stabbed herself with a bamboo plant trellis and it became severely infected. Operation required infected.

    1. EC,
SEE! Bamboo is dangerous. It looks as though this will NOT get infected. The tendons are very sore.

  5. You wonder how people can wander around and have no idea what they are doing. Sorry about your arm. I had an old woman get mad over the dollar store not having an item, she had a fit and then ran her cart into me during the fit. The metal hit my ankle bone, it stung and the people around her couldn't believe that an old woman was having such a tantrum. Nutty people.

    1. Sonya Ann,
What a nightmare. I think I would have called the cops. That is one of the worst pains. I am the angry one when people hit me with the cart. Nutty is right.

  6. Too bad you didn't take a picture, so we could repost it everywhere and warn people against the Terrible Tiki Torch Terrorist.

I would have hated that. I was watching an outdoor show at a festival of sorts when some miscreant ran a large cleaning cart (a janitor's cart) right into the back of my leg. Thankfully I had long shorts on, and the area bleeding and bruised was covered with shorts at the time (therefore the fabric of my own clothing was in direct contact, not their corroded old metal nightmare on wheels.) DID NOT EVEN STOP TO SAY "SORRY." In fact, everyone else played it cool like they didn't even see it. I think I have pics to prove it. Later I looked at the impressive congomeration of blue, purple, red, etc. bruising with actual cuts, and told some friends who didn't care, either. I think it was one of those "pics or it didn't happen" things, and I think I didn't share the pics. Your pic is like 1,000 words.

    1. I care. I would have provided first aid. I am one to jump in.

    2. Thanks, Janie, that is nice of you! It turns out the injury was under the shorts (just above the knee, back of knee, knee-length shorts) and when I say it bled, it wasn't dripping - maybe the shorts had a smudge, maybe not. Mainly it was a big bruise. What I want to know is: What kind of people would run into someone's leg enough to nearly knock them over (I didn't know my reflexes were good enough to stay standing upon that impact - I never heard it coming because of loud live music, right in front of the stage). Sorry to say, it was in a rundown neighborhood full of junkies or, a nicer thing to say would be people of extremely modest means with or without junky-ism.

    3. Sorry for hijacking your thread, Linda, with my pity-party story of the subcutaneous bleed.

That's a great blog you have there, Janie. I'm reading it like a book now. The pic reminds me of the Women and Women's first bookstore in Portlandia.

I use the wooden clothespins that are cheaply made in China. We have all gotten used to buying goods basically for free because they are MIC (made in China.) We don't expect good quality for nearly-free goods.

    4. 444,
I know some people are touchy about hijacking, but it is no problem here. It's all friendly and chatty, so no problem.

    5. 444,
Actually, I did not consider it hijacking at all!

  7. It’s the time of Black Friday again. Like the past years, the

shopping frenzy encapsulates the entire city. Kmart Black Friday Deals are sure to thrill the

shoppers around the world. If the past trend is anything to

go by, you can expect a huge discount that was witnessed in

2018. In 2018, Kmart offered 100 per cent cashback in points

on the purchase criteria to lure the potential buyers.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
