Chicken Salad Ingredient; Ultrasound Report; UTI; Giveaway

thigh bone

One day this past week, I felt horrible and bought a deli chicken salad as I passed the deli on the way to purchase milk. As I ate it, I found a bone, half of a wish bone at least two inches long. A few bites later, I found about an inch and a half of the back bone. Soon, I found the other half of the wishbone. I am paying by the pound for inedible bone. Besides, a person could choke or break a tooth.

Two days later, I went back to take advantage of a sale and took the bones from the refrigerator, and folded the paper plate over and took it to the store, presenting it to the manager. He was furious and insisted I get my money returned at the service desk. I decided that chicken salad deserved another try and got another chicken salad.

As I was talking to the assistant manager, I told her it looked like a heart in the salad. I figured I could just pick it out. I went to the car and could not resist eating it right then. The bone above was on top of the salad. The end of the bone was the "heart" I thought I saw. I turned off the car and took it back in. The manager turned red and marched back to the deli. They insisted I just toss it out. I would not let them take it, telling them it was fine, minus the bone. They insisted I take an extra salad.

So, chicken salad was on the menu the next day. Have you ever found bones, so many bones in chicken salad from the deli? Most days, there are bone chips, skin and cartilage....yuck.

Ultrasound
I had the ultrasound and thought I would pass out from the pain of the instrument the technician rubbed/pressed on my body for liver, gallbladder, and pancreas pictures. The pain was directly under my breastbone! I don't think it is supposed to hurt that much. The doctor's office gave me the results--nothing wrong with my gallbladder! I am not convinced. There is one kidney stone far back in calyx of right kidney. But, I knew that from CT scan 20 years ago and last week. It causes no pain, I am told.

UTI
When exbf was here, I started shrieking as I peed. He yelled to ask me what was wrong. "I am peeeeing!"  Whew! It was hard to keep peeing. I just wanted to stop and never pee again, ever. So, I called the urologist and started taking Cipro on Thursday.

Today, I have been up, out of the house for 12 hours, so I feel terrible. However, I did make a bit of money on a mystery shopper job and collected more money on the resume which we had to redo today.

Tonight, after I arrived home late, I called him and then had to pee, so I just did. I took the phone away while I shrieked. He was upset, asking me what had happened. He says he has never had pain on peeing. That is an exquisite experience I could do without.

  1. I actually found part of a brillo pad in my ravioli and meatsauce at a local restaurant last week. They were nice and replaced my meal and didn't charge me, but yikes!

    1. Jane,
"Yikes" is right. How do these things happen if people care? Funny thing--I never have foreign objects in food I cook. Thanks.

  2. Yes, increasingly we are finding things in food. I am thinking about simply buying the raw materials and making my own everything !

    1. Jane,
It is bad enough that food producers are allowed to have so many roach legs and bug eggs, but huge bones and a brillo pad? This is horrible. You are correct.

  3. ack Linda - i can't imagine finding those bones - i would definitely take it back. we try to cook from scratch here and make all of our own food. we try not to buy pre-packaged or pre-made anything. but every now and again, when going to appointments or buying groceries or whatnot, you run out of time and have to grab something. and from the sounds of the comments here - ick. lots of stuff that shouldn't be in the food is finding it's way into the food.

    1. kymber,
I was in a hurry, did not feel like cooking, and was feeling puny. Thus, chicken salad. it is not my usual fare. Before this, I have found bone shards, gristle/connective tissue, and large hunks of skin, not good but not huge bones. They think it is the new people working there.

  4. I'm sure sorry you are not feeling well. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I don't eat chicken salad from a store. No telling what's in it.

    1. Harry,
Thanks. I am trying to mend. I just know these people, know they debone...lol...their chicken from their own rotisserie and use a prepared dressing, so I figure it is sort of safe.

  5. I was eating fried oysters, bit down on a shell, and cracked my tooth up into the gum line. Can't afford the $2,000 for a root canal and crown. Back when I worked, I took ONE BITE of food at a Chinese restaurant and my mouth nearly caught on fire. I left. The blisters grew from my tongue to my throat over the next three days. I went to the doctor. He called the Health Department. They inspected the restaurant and found the culprit: DRAIN CLEANER.

The Health Department offered to assist me if I sued the restaurant. I didn't. I now wish I had. I was too compliant and didn't want to raise a fuss.

    1. lotta joy,
Drain cleaner down the throat!?! At that point, I would not be so compliant. It seems the HD could proceed without you. I hope it healed.

I have a tooth that is split into the root, too, but it had had a root canal before that. I cannot afford to have it fixed either.

  6. One time in New Orleans I ordered and oyster po boy and found a PEARL! Fortunately I didn't bite down too hard.

I have had dental issues all my life and am one step from a full upper denture. I had a few implants in my lower arch and have my fingers crossed that I can go a few more years before I have to throw in the towel on the lower section. I have an appointment on Thursday for delivery of a replacement crown. Fortunately I have a wonderful dentist. Unfortunately I have no insurance :(

    1. Janet,
Wow! A pearl is great. Too bad I don't eat raw oysters.

I dread the day I may need crowns. So far, so good.

  7. Was it a bladder infection that cased your pain? Are you feeling better now?

    1. Sue,
Yes, I was shrieking from pain because of a bladder infection.

The ultrasound was looking for the cause of the pain where liver, pancreas, gall bladder are located.

      Two pains.

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
