Ball Lids and Bands Cruising Deal

I always cruise by the sale aisles each time I go to Walmart. Nine times out of ten, I find nothing I really need or even want. However,Thursday I hit the Mother Lode of canning when I went to the new WM that has been here for about two years, maybe less. This is only the third time I have entered the store.

There is a line of Ball colored lids and bands that are very expensive. I never buy those. The decorator line is called Collection Elite Color Series. They come in green, red and blue. Only blue was left when I got there. I wish I could have gotten red bands and lids.  I bought one box for regular jars and two for wide-mouth jars.

The wide mouth bands in Collection Elite Color Series are regularly $5.34 for a box of 6. Twelve would be $10.68.
Ball wide mouth bands that are just the regular metal color are a box of 12 for $4.74.
I bought the Collection Elite Color Series box of 6 for $1.50, making 12 for $3.00. !!!!

The regular mouth bands and lids in the Collection are regularly 6 for $3.97.  Twelve would be $7.94.
Regular bands in regular metal color are a box of 12 for $3.74.
I bought the Collection Elite bands and lids box of 6 for $1. That would be 12 for $2. !!!

Bottom line--I bought 18 bands and lids for $4.

Not only did I get a good deal on the fancy schmancy bands and lids, I got them even cheaper than the regular metal ones we all use for canning.

I am all for cruising sale shelves or aisles. Sometimes, I put things in my cart, give them a little ride around the store, think, and most of the time take them right back to the sale shelf where I found them. Often, I get to the checkout and turn in the miscreants hiding in my cart. Today, there was no doubt that the bands and lids would make it all the way home.

In the fall people write how on their blogs how they got marked down Ball jars, bands, and lids on clearance. Around here there are never any clearances of canning supplies! Do you find clearance on canning supplies, ever?

Do you check the mark-down shelves in WM and grocery and drugstores?

  1. No deals here either, but we are in the same neck of the woods.

    1. I suppose canners around here can for more of the year. I know I do use jars for dehydrated food and dry beans.

  2. Never any on sale. Even the full price ones tend to sell out early. The last few years, I keep watch for the cheaper brand at Dollar General. I can a lot so try to stay stocked up as cheap as possible. You scored a great deal.

    1. We have shortages around here, too. Or, we did. Now, WM moves most of the canning jars to the back and the display is not so large in the winter and expands in the summer. However they do run out. Most of my jars have been used for storing dry beans and dehydrated food. I plan to change that this year.

  3. Have never seen any deals on canning supplies - however, not much canning is done here in SW FL as we can garden for about 9 months of the year.

I do check the clearance aisle at WM regualarly but rarely find anything. At the smaller WM Neighborhood store someone put all the small containers of anything together in one large flat bos - fake nails, fake eyelashes, bug spray, dog treats, dog toys, baby spoons, etc. It was sort of interesting to look thru for the first 60 seconds, then just annoying. Another customer was loading all the dog stuff into her cart - she told me she fostered dogs and could use everything - good for her!!

    1. bellen,
I am not a fan of those bins, either. Of course, if I find an interesting to me stash, that makes me keep looking. But, I hate digging.

    1. Urspo,
So often there is nothing of interest. It is the occasional find that makes the heart beat fast. Once in CVS or some drugstore, I found my deodorant for $1 and was getting a coupon for $5 that day for that drugstore. So, I bought 10 deodorants that was also my daughter's deodorant and used the $5 coupon, making the deodorant $0.50 each instead of $3 each. Of course, I have only looked in the reduced bin once more in three years at CVS.

    1. kylie,
At school? How so? As a student and at what level? If I ever move from the US, my jars and canning supplies would go with me since I have heard that canning supplies are not available elsewhere and are very expensive to order from the US.

    2. In about year 9 or 10 (so age 15 or 16) we went to some place where we made our own actual can of pineapple. I have no idea what kind of facility it was to have small equipment like that. We also put something in a jar, in class. i don't remember what fruit we processed.
It is possible to buy ball jars here, I got a special jar for making sauerkraut and the place I got t from sells ball jars

Okay, hoping the annoyances have gone away.
