Fourth Day of My Birthday Week

So, I got little done on Thursday. I had trouble sleeping for a few days, but straightened it out on Thursday by sleeping a little and was able to sleep on Thursday night, straightening out my days and nights.

Fall allergies are trying to lay me low. I had a headache for about two minutes, and it went away like magic. Then, I had earaches for about an hour and then they were okay. I think the pneumonia shot is working its magic. I have fewer sinus infections every year. But for two days, I felt awful.

I did get a cup of chocolate ice cream from DQ.

It was a frugal day as I cooked nothing, neither washed nor dried clothes. I think I ate only a cheese sandwich and four grapes.

The sun was shining, so it was a good day.

Third Day of Birthday Week and Glasses Found

Wednesday night, I received a voicemail saying my doctor appointment had been cancelled. Thirty minutes later, I received a call to confirm the same appointment. ??? So, this is something to find out the truth. Today, Thursday, I got a text about the cancelled appointment, reminding me to be there. ???

Wednesday night, when my friend came by to take out my garbage, I asked him to please look for my glasses. He found them on the floor and under furniture in thirty seconds! For twelve days I had searched.

He brought his nephew who has been coming here for about three years. Even when he was less than two, he talked to me and was so cute. He is the kind of kid that travels well--no whining, no getting into things, no asking for things, no constant interrupting, looks at you, nods or talks in response. He asks what things are...so cute. His mother is deaf, so he knows how to sign. I love having tiny company. I gave his nephew a cup of applesauce to take home and a nickel. Friend also brought in something heavy from my car.

Oh, we do allow him to talk. We listen to him and answer questions. He is not incessantly whacking on one of us to listen to him. He has never ventured one step beyond where we are. But, he decided to go into the kitchen, look around and come back to us. He said, "It is quiet in there."  I agreed, not knowing if that was good or bad.

I told exbf I wanted chickens for my birthday. I got a tarp to put over the top of their pen so the chickens will stay dry. This is my third tarp in nine years. I guess the tarp is part of "chickens for my birthday."  Maybe the same friend will put it up and tie it down for me.

So, Thursday was quiet. I am reveling in being well, which, as you remember, I have not been for so long.

Do you dread some children coming to your home?  And, do you look forward to others being in your home? I am not talking about grandchildren who would always be welcome.

Second Day of Birthday Week and Potato Soup

Well, fun is thin today. I was really tired from the lunch day. I did get lots of sleep and rest, so that is a gift in and of itself. Thanks to Gordon, we have overcast skies, but, thankfully, no rain.

In a few hours, I am going to get a small cup of chocolate ice cream from Dairy Queen. I love their ice cream. Plus, it does not make me ill like soft serve from Burger King.

This afternoon was a salad with the fresh tomatoes from the Farmer's Market. I gave exbf two yesterday. This evening, I will boil eggs, saute the zucchini and squash. A boiled egg can keep me from eating junk some days.

All my life, I have absolutely hated potato soup. But, I tasted some from the deli at Publix and think I can make soup like they do.  I cannot go wrong putting bacon and cheese in diced and boiled potatoes. Right? Bacon and cheese can make anything delicious. Right? Yes, I do know to partially drain potatoes and mash some of them.

Daddy made horrible potato soup. But, I doubt that during the Great Depression they had the luxury of putting cheese and bacon in boiled potatoes. They were probably lucky if they had enough potatoes to feed 12 children.

I was going to use a coupon for free-ish fast food, but I nixed that.

So, that is it for day 2. Not much. But, I am not so tired.

Fooled me once...

...shame on you. When exbf cut my hair 3" instead of 1/2", I was furious! Today, he butchered it even more. He asked at the last minute how much I wanted cut off. He used his index finger to measure an inch, two inches, and three inches. I got a little loud and fussy, showing him where a half inch was on his finger.

He only combed my hair to the middle of head, refusing to comb to bottom of hair growth at nape of my neck. Then, he abandoned the comb and sort of used his hands to gather all my hair like he was going to put it in a low pony tail. What is wrong with him???

I kept taking the pick and combing it spread like it fell on my shoulders naturally. Later, he told me he never used the comb but once. No wonder his clumsy fingers felt so strange just knocking my hair about and pushing it flat.

Now, it looks worse than the last time. This will cost $20 to get it fixed, not completely corrected. What is wrong with me???

Fooled me twice, shame on me!!!

He is doing this on purpose, so he can pay for the haircut!

I told him today I was going to have a birthday week. He did one other thing wrong which depressed me so much, I still cannot recover.  It would have cost nothing, but been the most fun!

Starting off my birthday week has been a wreck.

I had told him that eating the free Senior lunch where they have real plates and utensils would start it off since I am always happy with the prospect of going there. The day went downhill after that.

We had burgers from their outdoor grill, nice thick slices of tomatoes, lots of lettuce, cheese on the cooked burgers, a piece of watermelon, apple crumble. I grabbed the watermelon from my plate and ate it first. It was like a sweet, red slice of heaven.

A compounding pharmacist spoke and gave us a lot of good information, plus Q and A. At last, I found out where to get a immunization shot that does not include tetanus.

Have you ever known anyone who seemingly was bound to thwart simple or important plans with actions or attitude?

Radio Flyer--Buying New Wheels.

The wheels were only $8. They are labeled "lawnmower wheels." Actually, they will go on a Radio Flyer little red wagon. I think. Online, RF wagon wheels are $13.24 + shipping.

Someone gave the wagon to me so I could bring groceries from the car to house. It is secondhand and was abused although new. I valued it and took care of it. However, exbf kept yanking it and popping the wagon up the one step from backyard to front yard. I had told him not to yank it. But, every time he was alone with the wagon, I could hear what he did.

Finally, he came in one day and told me the wagon lost a wheel...grrr. I calmly told him I knew why and he could buy me a new wagon, so he did. He neither denied nor confirmed what he had done after I told him why the wheel broke...lol. We never discussed it.

Tractor Supply had wheels that were something like $38/each. The price for these wheels at Walmart are more what I can afford--$8. They are about a half inch or  an inch larger in diameter, so I got two and can replace both back wheels. If I put one on and it seems to work okay, I may take the other back.

Of course, I will not be putting these on the wagon! Someone else will have to do the job.

The wagon given to me was a cheap one from WM, only $75. The new one was from a dealer, a bit over $100. The cheap one had plastic wheels and the higher priced and newer wagon has metal wheels. I can tell the difference in the weight of the more expensive wagon.

The Walmart wagon was without a handle when I got it. RadioFlyer would not replace it since I bought it at WM.  ??? I told them how disappointed I was with the service from an old and trusted company, that I had owned their wagon before. I offered to buy  a new handle. They refused. About six months later, a new, metal handle arrived in the mail. I installed it with a screwdriver.

Lots of people have encouraged me to just throw this rusty, faded wagon away. They all will "help" me  and carry it to the curb...and then take the useless piece of junk off my hands. Why do people do things like that--disparage the looks and worth and suddenly want my junk. I am not so hopelessly old that I do not see what know why they want me to get rid of it.

My children had a Radio Flyer  red wagon that never failed. And, it had a metal handle. So does the new wagon.

Every time I contemplate the quality between these two wagons, I am disappointed with the degradation of products. The first wagon is a poor example of a fine wagon company that has been know for quality. Yet, the standards of the WM wagon are so low that the original company will not stand behind the product. So many things known for high standards are ruined by the demands of a company for a cheap and cheaply made product. Schwinn ruined its reputation to sell in one store. It makes me sad for our demand for supplies and disregard for quality.

Your turn

Have you ever had to replace plastic wagon wheels? Did you or your children have Radio Flyer red wagons?

I have no idea how much I spent, and I am too tired to figure it out.

In order to limit my consumption of juice, I only buy oj once a month, sometimes less. I could drink it everyday, all day!

The last mushrooms I bought spoiled because of the wreck and pain and not bending over.

I saved all the tops where I bit off the strawberries. These will catch a raccoon. Raccoons love strawberries. If you use tuna, usually you catch the neighbor's cat. Cats are not tempted by strawberries.

The buns were from the bread store.

I asked a Publix employee in the produce to shuck the corn, cut off the stalk part left, and to cut them in half. Done!

It was FREE

Walmart has a kiosk called a Freeosk. It gives out free things if you interact with the kiosk and your phone. I had no idea what to do and could barely read the directions and definitely could not read on my phone.

An employee helped me. The free item was Johnson Baby Shampoo and Wash. Hey, it is soap.

Silly Me assumed the 16 oz. bottles were what I got for free. No, it was a one ounce bottle. I will definitely get each and every freebie from the Freeosk.

Have you seen the Freeosk is Walmart? Have you gotten anything free?
