Christmas Day was a good day all around. Tommy liked the puzzle I gave him. He smiled at it a lot. It is a gaggle of puppies and a pony. Two other gifts are on the way. He is getting a Dirt Shirt, and fancy clippers for his toenails. I am too when Amazon gets them here. He gave me two gift cards to Barnes and Nobles. Books are always great for me.
We cooked everything in much less time than usual. Chicken breast cooked with ground sage made the breast more like turkey. ...lol. Sweet potatoes (plain), StoveTop, green bean casserole, two brown and serve rolls were on my plate. Tommy had leftover potatoes and carrots because we had some of the stuffing before Christmas.
My gravy was lovely and he did not complain about making it. It was beautiful on top of the Stove Top, green bean casserole, and the chicken. I think I put five boiled eggs in about two cups of gravy! Since I only used two Tbsp of flour and broth, the gravy was not a bad choice. I did forget to make one of my boiled eggs into two deviled eggs. I can still do that.
We did eat too much candy On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I do love Kisses Hershey's Miniatures. On Christmas Day I opened the Cella Chocolate Covered Cherries, the only brand I can stand because it has no white stuff in the center.
I wonder if I have lost the four pounds I lost a few days ago.
Today, I had another ot appointment. The bike pedals she put together fell apart after she left. I am so annoyed. I pedaled eight minutes last night and can already tell a difference in left leg mobility.
We gathered the three store ads.
Tommy gets frustrated. He kept asking me why buy more black-eyed peas. I said, "Just do." I was not about to get into an endless debate. He kept asking what we were going to do with the others, why, what, and I just gave vague answer. He came back and was pleased they were bogo. No drama...lol. I will put on some of the older peas for next weekend.
Result of no drama--very low blood pressure, something like 112/70 when ot came.
Next project--putting away Christmas. I never do this until New Year's Day.
The days are getting longer. Yay! And, it is still not cold. We won't ever complain about warm.
How was your Christmas?
Ugh..started a comment and lost it…apologies if this is a repeat!
ReplyDeleteOur Christmas was lovely and quiet. I shocked the family by setting gifts under the tree around 3p.m. on Christmas Eve day, and DH and I sat and admired the effect of the sun shining on them. I have never set them out before nightfall…when the kids were younger they were put out after they were asleep. As they grew older I would do it before they woke. The look on the kid who first came into the room and saw the gifts set out was priceless!!! He called the others, and one of them asked if I had a fever! Then we all laughed as one of the cats scaled the pile to get to the tree water for a drink.
Christmas Eve, around 6, my cherished neighbor came over with her daughter and two of her sons and we visited for a bit while we listened to lessons in carols on the radio in the background. She left with one of my kids in tow. He came back around 2 a.m., but DH and I were in bed by 8:30 as I was exhausted!
Kids were all up by 11:00 for bagels, salmon, coffee, mimosas and presents. The kid who dry rubbed the rib roast helped me get it in the oven. We had rib roast, roasted carrots, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy , Mormon potatoes and cranberry sauce, with sparkling cider or Merlot. Dessert was a choice of homemade Boston cream pie, or fruitcake. A kid’s friend showed up for dinner, which was an absolute treat, as we all like her. By 6:00 the table was cleared, dishwasher running, and kids busy with their various gifts.
Putting away my decorations is pretty easy since we decorate modestly. The dining room runner and centerpiece gets put away as I set the table for a formal dinner. (Tablecloth instead of placemats, formal China, crystal and flatware.) The Christmas cookie jar gets washed with the dinner dishes, and the Christmas quilts get tossed in the wash with the formal tablecloth, then folded and put away. The biggest job is taking down the two trees, and that happens tomorrow. I never have the tree up beyond the 28th. Beyond that I think I have a Christmas lantern, two crystal angel candleholders, and a small wooden sleigh that holds my Christmas cards. We have always had a modest approach to Christmas. None of us really likes mess, noise, clutter or chaos. With all due respect to the Christian Liturgical calendar, I can’t bear heading into the new year with Christmas decorations still out. I like a fresh start.
So, you surprised everyone? Your dinner sounds great. I have so few things out, but my problem is the hurt of putting them up. I never let the church decide my schedule. I just developed this pattern when I was married almost 60 years ago. It still suits me even if I don't manage to follow it.
