Friday was Customer Appreciation Day at our Power Board. It started at 10 am. I had somewhere to be at 8 am, but came home, put on makeup, and arrived by 10:10.
One of my son's friends helped me park. He let me inside the area with a parking spot that I had just passed by. So, I did not have to walk too far. Hamburgers in a sack lunch were supposed to be ready at 11:30, but the guy who helped me went and brought me a lunch and water right away. He was a very nice little kid and very cute. He is a nice adult and still cute, same age as my son.
The sky was beautiful, clear blue when I arrived. Only little fluffs of clouds arrived around noon. The wind was a little more than gentle. Friday was the perfect summer day right here in Fall. There was not one hint of Fall in the air. While there was no chill in the air, no one was warm until about 1 pm. Last year, the same Appreciation Day had perfect weather, too.
A trio was playing when I arrived. The music was a nice mixture of old country, Elvis, one number from "O Brother, Where Art Thou."
Thursday, I put my entry in a box for the Yeti cooler, one big enough to hold a body. However, there were about a dozen other prizes with entries put into a different box. The first two prizes were smallish--a weather radio and a handy, dandy flashlight. The next prize was a Black and Decker weed eater, corded and 7.5 amps.
The manager of the Power Board remarked that some woman could win this and get her husband to use it. I thought--right, and I need a husband first. Then, as he was handed the name and he read it, he said, "I have seen her here today." THEN, he called my name! So, I went up and someone carried the weedeater to my car.
Later, I remarked to the manager that if anyone wanted to trade the CrockPot still amongst the prizes for the Black and Decker weedeater, I was willing to trade.
Soon, the 6 qt. CrockPot was carried to my car and the Black and Decker weedeater went to someone else! Yay me! It has a latch to keep it shut so it can travel without spilling.
My big 7 qt. CrockPot mailed to me as a surprise has no crock since it was broken outdoors by a raccoon. The 3.5 qt. CrockPot I bought for $3 at a yardsale is not quite large enough some days. So, this is a great win for me.
The Black and Decker is worth $70 before tax. The CrockPot is the same price. I won twice on Friday.
While we were eating and listening to music, a bank was robbed just three blocks away.
And there was a woman who sat across from me and inserted her finger up her nose to the second knuckle. Then, she wiped her finger on the tablecloth. Surely, she has dementia. GAH!

Bargains--Food and Otherwise
Since I always check Publix markdown racks, I find bargains often. A Mr. Coffee teapot was marked 2/$14.95, making it $7.50. The next time I was in WM, the cheapest teapot was nearer $20. So, I returned to Publix and purchased a teapot. It is candy apple red, not my preferred color, but certainly acceptable. I won't pay another $12 for a different color.
At Publix I found Kraft Parmesan Cheese canisters, 2/$6. Since these are usually $3.89 at WM, I bought two canisters. Unfortunately, I had no coupons.
Warehouse Discount Grocery had Kraft chunk cheese, 8 ounces, for $2. This is as good as I can usually get when price-matching. I bought three. These are $2.89 in WM and higher at other stores.
Walmart has 42 ounce canisters of Quaker Old-Fashioned Oats for $3.98. Usually, the same product is close to $5, about $4.89. Since I had a coupon for $1 off two canisters of 42 ounces of oats, I saved a bit more. I actually bought 6 boxes, figuring this will last me all winter. I will put all this in Ball jars, and freeze for three days, storing it in the cabinet. This way, no bugs will hatch that were in there when I purchased it.
Plus, afterward someone gave me two of the 18 ounces canisters of Quaker Oats. Yay me! I eat hot oats all year long. However, this winter I will have a bowl each day.
In WM a guy was giving out free samples--10 ounce bottles of Downy Fabric Softener. WOW, such a large size. Usually, these type products have free samples that are a little pouch, about twice the size of a catsup packet. I don't use fabric softeners, even free bottles, so I will give this to someone.
An organization gave me two gift cards, one for $50 and another for $25, to help with the cost of going to doctor for cancer--tests, surgery, and checkups. There was valet parking that was not free most of the time. I had to supply drivers with money for the valet parking. At other times, I had to give gas money. This $75 will help plug that hole in my wallet.

Seafood Headache?
As I entered Publix on Tuesday, I was hit with the stench of seafood. Raw seafood...ugh...then a massive headache gripped my head. That lasted for quite a while, most of the day, in fact.
I have tasted shrimp, calamari, crab, lobster, and many other seafood dishes and cared for none of them. I refuse to try oysters! I allowed my father to feed oysters to my younger daughter, but I had to leave the kitchen. The sight and smell were overwhelming.
My father loved to feed my babies. He would get a child dressed in Sunday clothes and feed the child with no bib. After years of my loudly complaining to him, he finally would tell me to get the kid undressed so he could feed the baby. A loved the oysters.
Considering my aversion to seafood and the horrid headache, I now wonder if I have an allergy to seafood. That will be a question for my allergist when I visit him next month.
But, in the meantime, does a seafood allergy manifest itself in a headache from the smell of seafood?
Okay, as soon as I hit "PUBLISH," I called my allergist. "Yes, indeed it can." So, I am being tested for seafood next appointment.
Do you have a seafood allergy that presents as a headache?

Busy Tuesday
It started Monday night when I flew down to WM and purchased a pkg. of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, came home, washed out the crock pot, and put on the chicken with seasoning, onion, celery, and bell pepper. I thought he was coming Friday, so I was behind now that he was coming on Tuesday.
Around midnight, I took the breasts out of the refrigerator and turned crockpot on low. It simmered all night. Tuesday morning at 8 am, I scraped and cut 2 lbs. of carrots in the crockpot and ate the onion I had put in with the chicken. An onion was breakfast!
Two red potatoes were eyed and put in with the carrots. I didn't feel like putting in more carrots. About 3:30 I added more potatoes and the squash to the crockpot.
Exbf arrived about 9:30 and I got in his vehicle. He drove me to bank and to Publix to get a2milk. Back home, I put the milk in the refrigerator. Back in the car, I called the Tuesday church and asked if someone could meet us with a wheelchair.
At the church, exbf got into the wheelchair, and I got in driver's seat to park the car. Inside a Fall fair/carnival was set up as a program just for this lunch group. This was the program for the month, celebrating fairs. Several tables had exhibits with handiwork of the church members. Maybe I can remember the displays--wood turning with bowls, sewing with bags for Christmas Child boxes, crocheting, cross stitch, knitting, and other six-foot tables with skills/crafts I cannot remember.
In the middle of the atrium of this church is a round water feature, a pool. Today, it was filled with rubber duckies. Each person could take a turn with a net catching a duck. My duck won me a snack. I wanted socks! Exbf's turn, taken by me, won him a snack, so I got bugles for him. I chose a mini Moon Pie.
Then, there were various games. "How many grandchildren", etc. Exbf won for the person who got in car and drove the furthest distance to come to the lunch. Exbf won by a longshot--65 miles. The next nearest distance was 35 miles. He won a gift bag with goodies as did the other winners. It has a mini metal box with butter cookies and various other candies. He let me have the little bag of chocolate truffles. Good deal.
While everyone visited the crafts and scooped up ducks, we all had freshly popped popcorn and snow cones...yummy! Delicious!
Lunch was two corn dogs, tater tots covered in cheese with bacon bits on top. Dessert was ice cream with what looked to be fried jelly sticks. He said it was apple something. I am not too sure. This was all fair food.
Someone wheeled him to the car as I drove it up to the curb.
From then on I drove as we went to market where I bought ripe tomatoes, green tomatoes, and yellow squash. I will cut tomatoes for dinner tonight. Written at 3 pm) Green tomatoes will be fried tomorrow and frozen for him next week. I had to cook the squash and more potatoes for tonight's dinner--chicken, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, squash, and sliced tomatoes.
After the market, I headed out to the country to buy honey. A 22 ounce glass jar of fresh honey cost $7. I know it is pure honey. I went ahead and bought two 22 ounce jars for $14. I think that is a good deal. What do you pay for a pint of honey?
Below was written after 6 pm.
We ate dinner in the den to watch the coverage on Las Vegas. I gave him his meal, realized I had forgotten the tomatoes, and brought back two thick slices and put them on his plate. As I walked away, he became apoplectic, spitting and sputtering and a bit of cursing. He was scraping and knocking the tomato around, saying how he did NOT want tomato touching his food. Now, I have known him for 11 years, and have never heard him say he did not want tomato touching his food! I told him just to leave it. NO, it's touching my food! Well, deal with it. He was beside himself. Finally, I hobbled over and did not find tomato on his plate. What did you do with it? I put it in my pocket!
Two slices of tomato in his pocket! How stupid. I demanded the tomato and threw it away. He said I should have known. Then, he said he thought we were having the stuff mixed together. ??? Stew? Yes, he said I told him we would have that. Since I thought we discussed it on Monday, I told him so, but he insisted we talked about it Friday night. I pointed out that I did not know until Sunday night that he was coming on Tuesday, that five pounds of ground round takes time to thaw and then cook.
Actually, I told him I was going to make two kinds of meatballs, one kind in brown gravy and one kind in spaghetti sauce, plus taco casserole, meatloaf, and what else would he like. Then he said stew!
So, he wants to know when I am cooking stew...??? When I have time to thaw the meat and the energy and inclination to cook so many things, that's when.
Seriously, I had the urge to kill. The whole day was perfect until tomato slices touched his food! He calmed down as fast as he became agitated. Weird. All of it! I will address this behavior later!
Ack! I forgot to cook/steam the cabbage. I was going to add it to the crockpot with the yellow squash. I will put it in the crockpot in a bit and cook it to eat myself.
Today was a beautiful day with the bluest sky and fluffy, snowy white clouds. While I was in Publix, he was cloud watching. He described a tiny cloud that floated along until in a poof it disappeared. I watched out the window and saw another tiny cloud do the same thing. Today was beautiful and peaceful except for the "tomato incident"! I will refer to it as such.
Remember the strawberry incident?
He left a few minutes ago. I put chicken, potatoes, carrots, and yellow squash in the car for him, all cooked. He only wanted a little bit of honey, so he has a large pimiento jar full of honey about 1/3 cup. .He got two chicken breasts and two tomatoes, whole and touching nothing.

Happy Birthday, DIL
My son hit the jackpot by marrying her. I must mail her card and gift! She is a nice person, very smart, great mother, and cute as can be.
I Won Ribbons at the Fair
Sunday, with only two hours left to pick up exhibits, I happened to remember I had to pick my entries. If I did not pick them up, they would be donated. The check would be mailed, however.
I entered a pint jar of dehydrated pineapple rings, won a blue ribbon, and $5. I also entered a pint of banana slices, won a red ribbon, and $4. Since I wanted needles for crafts and upholstery, I immediately bought those.
I always want to know the reason I did not get a blue ribbon. There are three reasons: 1) someone entered bananas whiter than mine, 2) someone entered something better, better for a number of reasons, and 3) I forgot what that is. A red ribbon is fine, but I shoot for blue, 1st place.
There are pictures that maybe you can see some day when I can post them.
My DSL was down for 24 hours. But, I am back and will catch up on comments on my post and reading of your blog.

Did anyone else enter the fair this year? Did your children enter animals or art? What have you entered in the past/ Win anything?
