Why My Panties are in the Refrigerator

cool panties

Today, I was trying to get more food into the refrigerator. But, there was a bag with a soft blob in it. ???  Bending is hard for me, especially with a half gallon of orange juice. I clawed it open and found about a dozen pair of  wet panties.

Why?

I washed them and could barely stand to go out in the yard in the humidity and the heat. So, I carried them out and decided two pair were enough for now. Besides, scattered thunderstorms were predicted, and I was leaving the house for about two hours.

The solution--twist the bag shut and store in the refrigerator so they would not sour or pick up food odors. My back hurt so that even standing to hang them in the house was more than I could bear. I think this was the day after the wayward hen escapade. I will relate that later.

In the South in the summer, Mama washed, dried, and starched Daddy's white shirts prior to ironing them. She then sprinkled them with a Coke bottle sprinkler. When she was tired, ran out of time, or whatever, she stored the other starched and dampened in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. She could finish the onerous ironing chore next morning before the pre-air conditioned summer in Jackson, MS made it unbearable.  Actually, storing the sprinkled shirts helped the moisture to penetrate through the shirts.

Now, the panties are out in the less humid air we are experiencing in the South today.

Your turn
Have you ever stored wet clothing in the refrigerator to keep it from souring in the heat? Did you or your mother store starched and sprinkled shirts in the refrigerator?

MagicJack

Magicjack plus Newest Model 2014 + Six Month of Free Service Magic Jack

The new 2014 MagicJack

I may have mentioned this a long time ago, but I finally did it. I now have MagicJack. Then, after I hooked it up, but before I had a chance to cancel my home phone from AT&T, I got a bill for $99. I called and told them to cancel my phone service. They begged me for two hours to let them make everything right and give me deals.

We discussed how that bill was wrong, and that I probably owed about $7. The agent told me not to pay it until I got a final bill. Today, I received a check for $20.16. I read and reread the paper it was attached to. "Refund of credit on final bill." That was puzzling. I thought surely they meant I owed $20.16.

For the first time since 1954, I no longer have Bell South or some other Bell or AT&T. It feels strange. My parents got the phone line in 1954. When I was married Bell Something was what we used. Well, there was nothing else.

I did not tell you how this all started. No one believes what AT&T did. That is another story, a long story.

MagicJack can be taken when a person travels, even to Europe and all calls with be local to US calls, not long distance charges.

Anyway, I went from a $23 bill + all they add to make it nearer $33/month bill to a $3/ bill. That is a savings of $30/month!

$30x12=$360 a year I will save. Sweet!

Your turn
Have you broken up with AT&T for a cheaper alternative? Do you have MagicJack? Are you happy with it? Any problems?

One Sad Day

My mental therapy--broken

One fine day in May, I went out to sit in the swing and watch the chickens, the bushes, the leaves from last fall. I sat and the bottom right broke. The whole seat fell down. This is how I keep my equilibrium instead of taking anti-depressants. I have no idea how I am going to cope without it. Well, it may not be that serious, but I got an estimate of hundreds of dollars to fix it good as new with new boards, screws and bracing...sigh.

This swing is one of my great joys in life. I was so sad when it broke. This makes 7 weeks without it.

Your turn
Do you ever have a turn of events that calls for money and the whole thing makes you sad?

Allergies and the Acorn Tree

oak "flowers"

After going to the allergist twice, I am now the proud owner of an antihistamine, two allergy pills, a squirt nasal antihistamine, four inhalers, and an epi-pen. One of the inhalers is also for swallowing six times each day. But, it is July now, so this is old news about the early spring allergies. I have reactions to heat and to my own sweat! However, this has been the best spring of my life. Only once did I feel the "sand in the eyes" feeling.

I sweat lots. When it dries on my skin, it feels like nettles all over me. Hives appear and torment me. I can easily claw myself bloody. Today, I have been in the yard ten times for a total of four minutes each time. Lopping has been my chore today. I never dry off before I go out again. I use a wet washcloth to get the sweat off me, cool me, and refresh me.

One day back in the spring, I was riding the electric cart in the grocery store. A woman of about 30 leaned over me and asked, "Sweetie, do you mind if I get these things off your back and out of your hair?"  Alarmed, I asked what was on me. I thought "bugs."  She picked several oak flowers from my hair and shoulders. I laughed and commented that I had to walk under two oak trees to get into the car and that I wore the flowers all the time in the spring. She said, "Oh, that's okay" as though I had been caught naked. "I don't have an oak tree but I have an acorn tree that has these same flowers on them."

Of course, I was stunned that a grown woman with two elementary-aged children did not know the name "oak" and was under the impression there was a tree called "acorn tree." It was as though she were less than two and just learning to name things. How does this happen?

This spring was the most pleasant spring, allergy wise, that I have spent in my life. I had a low-grade fever for three months solid and then on and off this last winter, all caused by allergies.

I was in a store with a pharmacy. As soon as I entered the door, I started coughing. By the time I got to the department I wanted, I was coughing and losing my breath completely, getting really dizzy and weak. I headed for the pharmacy and motioned the pharmacist frantically. I asked her if I had an inhaler prescription I could pick up, that I could barely breathe. She rushed to the computer and rushed back with the box with the inhaler. I could not remove it from the box because my hands were shaking. She asked if I needed help; I could only nod and give it to her. She opened the box, ripped open the strong plastic containing the inhaler, primed it and handed it back. After using it, I was ready to pay for it even though I felt too weak to do anything.

As it turns out, she just gave it to me because I got that rescue inhaler prescription at Urgent Care with no refills for the rescue inhaler. "I can stand here until you pass out and call an ambulance, or I can just give it to you." When I told the allergist, he nodded and said, "She did the right thing." Thankfully, she was compassionate and not rule-bound.

This regimen of inhalers is making me feel better so far. At least every allergen does not do me in as was the case before. This is a new world for me. Maybe I have posted about this before.

Your turn
Do you use an inhaler or four for breathing problems? Or, maybe it is a child. Do you have an inhaler for swallowing instead of inhaling?

A Few Pictures

Earrings I won from Adventures of My Life
I took a picture as soon as I unwrapped them!

One day I went out and dogwood petals
were as far as the eye could see in my yard.

Chicken dinner from the Wednesday night dinner from a few plates.
Greens, tomatoes, and cantaloupe and one piece of cake.

orange lilies coming up through the leaves
that have lain in the yard all fall, winter, and
spring after a church group volunteered
to help me.

That is all for today.

Free RED Table

Okay, so maybe it is a little garish photographed in front of that blue metal door. I found this in the lobby of a storage unit and asked the attendant if it were abandoned. She called the lady who owned it. It was mine.

It can be re-painted. I'm not sure why it looks so spotty. The only place red would fit in my home is in the kitchen. But, I love the table.

I asked exbf stand beside it to show the scale. The table is so heavy. I had to pay someone $5 to come and put it in the unit. That person was much stronger than I, and she thought it was heavy. So did exbf and he is not weak.

I have a much longer and lower coffee table, trestle table under the picture window that  holds the TV. I think this would be an upgrade, not in quality, but in style, except the coffee table is natural wood with veneer, an antique. I don't paint furniture unless it is just so shabby that paint improves it.

Your turn
Do you like it? The style? The color? Would you paint it? It is not so orange-y in real life.

I am back! Corrected link

I rejoined simplycomputers2@yahoogroups.com and someone helped me figure this all out. I am so exhausted from the effort...lol...and I have things to do while it is light and heat index of 100 F degrees and humidity that is almost 70% or something like that.
